Spacious apartment, attractive living room, lovely private yard with plenty of foliage. Very private, cool, and relatively quiet for busy Berkeley. Bed and pillows very comfortable. Filtered water and Keurig coffee provided. (Thanks!!) An excellent apartment for a couple like us, visiting family in the area.
Owner needs to stay in their own property to properly equip it for occupancy. Very low rate unit! No lighting to back of house and very unstable long stairs. Property manager very responsive to our needs, but too little too late
I was looking forward to having a quiet, comfortable evening after a long day at a conference. I texted the owner that I would arrive early evening and she wrote a nice note back. When I tried to find the house, though, it was on a busy street and the house numbers were not easy to see. I drove around the block several times, trying to figure out which house it was, and I finally pulled over to call the property manager, who didn't seem to get why I couldn't find it. He finally gave me enough info to find the house, but then the driveway was blocked with cars and I barely fit my car behind them, blocking the sidewalk. I called the PM back...again, he seemed confused but he called the owners (who were not home) and then told me they would be back in an hour! I was getting pretty frustrated...tired and needing a bathroom. There were no lights on outside, and I couldn't tell how to find the apartment (at the back of the house). I used my flashlight on my phone and went exploring in the dark, going down some uneven steps and finding the place finally. I began to punch in the code when I heard a BIG dog barking, and a young man came to the door. He told me HE had rented the place! I showed him my dates on my phone, and he realized he was there at the wrong time. He was very nice and packed up and left, and I finally got to settle in, trying not to think of how I was not the only person with the door code. I decided to watch a movie on my computer, but when I looked for the wifi network, nada. And my phone signal was so weak there, I couldn't even use that. I was exhausted, so I went to bed. So much for my relaxing evening. The whole experience was so disappointing.
Very disappointed with the way the unit is kept up as well as with the information we received (or the lack there of): The unit is advertised with: Heat ... but there is a heater only in the bedroom ... misleading. And the heater doesn't work. Nowhere the posting mentions there is another unit above, with the associated noise .... misleading. The owners introduce themselves via email indicating we'll be glad to welcome you but if we are not around please feel free to self-check in... They don't live in the area ... misleading. French Press for Coffee ... there are coffee pods available but they are not compatible with the machine... why do that? This is not just misleading. It is almost insulting. The ad reads Linens Provided... but there is no flat bedsheet. Upon asking we were told the duvet doubles as blanket... again misleading (and almost insulting - in my book). The unit is at the back of the house... it is not described anywhere that it is the case. One has to go around the backyard with steps down, through areas where rainwater puddles about half inch, there is mud etc. It is not at all wheel chair friendly... again misleading. Only out of three large windows has a curtain ... it is laden with what seems to be mold!!! The shower room is so tiny one can barely turn around... if you are more than 5.5 ft tall you'll need to somehow bend down to wash your hair. Only two towels and two toilet paper rolls for a 2 week stay???!!!! Most places send a cleaner to freshen up the beds after one week. Here it is not included In summary, this is just the most pathetic example of what the housing situation is in the Bay Area: Pay premium prices for whatever you can get. To stay in this place I had to buy my own blankets, my own heater, my own cleaning supplies and even toilet paper. It is a pity. Good location, large unit, terrible hosting for a terrible stay. Never again.
We chose this rental vacation because the reviews gave us the impression that the hosts would be living in the same house - which was really important for us as we came to the Bay Area from Germany for 10 months for work and we needed someone to ask for advice on all kinds of everyday-life questions. Unfortunately, the hosts turned out to not live there after all, instead the apartment above ours gets rented out to other people as well - which was a bit unfortunate for us. We never saw the hosts during our 3-weeks stay, not even when we arrived, what we found very disappointing. Apart from that, the apartment itself is great, with a large bedroom, kitchen and living room. There is a big patio with wonderful trees where lots of squirrels live. Unfortunately there is not much opportunity to sit and enjoy the outside area as there were only 2 uncomfortable chairs available. Would be great to have some deck chairs etc there! The kitchen is well equipped, there is even free coffee. Some basic equipment, though, was missing, like kitchen towels etc. We had to go and buy those ourselves. It's a very beautiful neighborhood with supermarkets a 10-minute walk away. Bus stop to go downtown is 3 minutes away. During the day, there was some traffic noise as the house sits directly on a tunnel. But it didn't really bother us, and it was quiet during the night. Depending on what guests are residing in the apartment upstairs, it can get noisy, though, especially when they are having a party which we had to experience once. The matrass was a bit too soft for us but I guess that's a quite personal opinion. Overall, we would recommend the place to other guests and we enjoyed staying there! We would definitely come again! Thank you!
We loved the apartment. It was so convenient with bus lines right outside the door, parking in the garage and easy to walk to parks and the Gourmet Ghetto! We loved the big screen for movies and sports. The apartment had everything we needed and the patio was beautiful. The neighborhood was lovely too and surprisingly quiet even though the circle and tunnel were so close. A great experience for us, we would definitely stay here again on our next trip!
Accommodations were perfect for what we needed and would definitely stay again! The rental was clean, very comfortable, and included covered parking. Thanks for hosting us!
My husband and I enjoyed our stay at this one-bedroom unit in North Berkeley which was as advertised. We were pleased that we could park in the garage--that was a surprise, not sure that's always the case. Be aware that this is a lower level back of the house unit (hence the oasis in the title, nice and quiet), so if you arrive in the evening be sure to have your phone flashlight available to negotiate the pathway and stairs.
Honestly can't say one negative thing about our stay here! Nadia and PJ were great hosts in every way - available and accommodating, but also gave us ample privacy. The house is great. Clean, new everything, insane TV/Movie experience with the giant projector and the private backyard was perfect for keeping our dog entertained, and for breakfast in the sun. Stocked with all you need, and some extra touches like popcorn, waters, and directions for everything. Amazing neighborhood close to everything. You will hear children running upstairs, but we knew it going in and didn't bother us at all - only happens during the hours you'd expect it to happen. I can't recommend this place any higher.
My wife and I spent a week in Berkeley visiting our two year old grandson and our two weeks granddaughter. We rented the Marin Strret property during our stay. We were impressed with the cleanliness and the size of the apartment. It is close to everything in Berkeley. The area is quiet with plenty on street parking. We wish we were provided with more towels, only two towels for a week's stay. Also there was no paper towels in the kitchen. Overall we had a good experience and we would stay again.
My husband and I just spent six days in this spacious apartment. We enjoyed its location, its garden and view, the bedroom, kitchen, and the living room. The WI- FI was also easy to access and always worked. When we needed something special for the apartment, Nadia was very quick to oblige. We highly recommend this place, and we are about to stay again.
