La Casa del Gigante is an upscale luxury villa in the most exclusive location of Monterosso. This prestigious villa in Monterosso is part of the construction near the famous giant statue, Il Gigante. The Giant is the symbol of Monterosso village. From this statue the house derives its name. The building is an art creation of the famous Italian architect Claudio Andreani. While Piero Pinto, one of Italy's most famous and sought after interior designers, created the interiors.

Its history is curious and charming. Its architecture is brilliant and welcoming!

It is a unique privilege renting this villa in Monterosso, Cinque Terre!

The Villa

La Casa del Gigante luxury villa has private access from the narrow road that leads from Fegina beaches to the the most impressive villas of the village. It lies right below the Monterosso towers, one of them available for rental La Torre dei Merli.

The place has a distinctive trait: huge arched windows that lighten the dining and sitting area of the villa. The property concept is that of a huge cave protected by these giant window panes. The glass let the sea and the sky enter and lighten the indoor spaces. The construction is well recognisable from Vernazza, resembling the base on which the Giant statue rests.

Leaving the sitting-dining area a lovely staircase leads us from the lower floor to the upstairs double bedroom. It is a spacious loft with a double bed. Lying on bed guests can rest and admire the waves, Vernazza and the other Cinque Terre villages in the distance.

The private bathroom of this bedroom is amazing as the rest of the villa: a long vertical glass offers the view of the sea while showering!

Back to the lower floor, we have another bathroom with shower.

From the sitting/dining area we have access to to curved space where we have a sofa turning into two single beds (that can be joined and turned into a double bed on request).

Air conditioning in the lower level, both in sitting room and bedroom. Fan in the bedroom loft.

There's no space for a washing machine, but, in case you need doing your laundry you will receive, on arrival, a coupon for doing your laundry at a serviced laundrette nearby.

Why Choosing this property

The views from La Casa del Gigante are breathtaking. This is really a singular villa in Monterosso: the changing colours of the waters below, the brilliant lights on Vernazza in front of us and the shades and hues on the Cinque Terre coastline make this place a unique observatory point.

The villa has a strategical location near the beaches, with easy access from the train station (a short walk 250 mt, all flat). The property offers the possibility of benefiting a VIP access to the prestigious Circolo Velico of Monterosso (local yacht club) at preferred rate. Reservation is mandatory both for marine activities, lunches and dinners.

La Casa del Gigante luxury villa is ideal property for couples but also for families of 4 people.

History

La Casa del Gigante has an intriguing and lovely history. Lots of info on the area are to be found at the link of Monterosso Circolo Velico. The Circolo is the yacht club right below, which was born by the will and with the funds of the De Andreis family. Mr. Gino De Andreis, is a cousin of the poet and Nobel Prize Laureate Eugenio Montale.  This famous poet's holiday house, Villa Montale, lies a few metres afar from La Casa Del Gigante.

The statue of the Giant, Neptune,  is art creation of the Italian sculptor Arrigo Minerbi (the favorite artist of Gabriele D’Annunzio) and the architect Francesco Levacher.

In the past the impressive sculpture, with their 14 meters high, stood on the promontory as decoration of the luxurious Villa Pastine (built in the early ‘900). In addition to the trident Neptune was holding a gigantic shell on his head, that was nothing more than the beautiful house terrace.

Unfortunately, during World War II, Monterosso was under the bombs of the allied forces and the Neptune statue (along with the villa) and most of the villa collapsed. Its destruction was even greater after heavy seas in 1966.

Entertainment

The owner of La Casa del Gigante would be pleased, when he is in Monterosso, to personally welcome his guests, talk about the villa history and offer you a glass of his own wine. Before your arrival you can verify with Cinque Terre Riviera if the owner will be around!

And approximatively the first week of September the owner offers a unique experience to all his guests: Vendemmia! The possibility to go grape picking to his vineyards and enjoy an amazing lunch with all the farmersat the end

Not to be missed!

We loved our stay at La Casa del Gigante! Nicely furnished, comfortable, wonderful kitchen, gorgeous view of the water!!.....we also enjoyed the nice food basket that was left for us. Only one complaint: The sun is very strong coming into the massive living room windows The glare and the heat were almost unbearable! There are curtain hooks on a curtain rod but there are no curtains??! Curtains are seriously needed. We hope to have a return visit to this lovely apartment.

First, the company that runs this rental is first-rate. We were personally met at the property and had everything explained to us so we knew how to run everything. They provided complimentary extras like Prosecco, eggs, tomatoes, apricots. First rate. The only working washer/dryer we had our entire 2 week Europe trip (we stayed several different places). The view from this property cannot be beat. Air conditioning worked very well. Our 19 and 18 year old boys were happy with the extra bedroom set up, but two older adults might not be. Cinque Terre was probably our favorite leg of our trip, and Montessori is a great base. Be sure to hit the older side of Montessoro too, it’s got a lot of character.

The views from this VRBO are breathtaking. The accommodations are excellent and it's a short walk to the train station. Monterosso is a quaint little village on the riviera and it's an easy walk to some of the best restaurants and shops around. There are 5 villages total in the Cinque Terre and it's an easy train ride to each one. Each provides amazing architecture and restaurants and it's right on the Gulf of Genoa. I highly recommend this property to anyone that travels to Northern Italy.

From the moment we arrived, everything about this VRBO was flawless. The host was incredibly welcoming and communicative, offering clear directions, local recommendations, and thoughtful touches that made us feel right at home. The property itself was unique, beautifully decorated, and exactly as pictured—if not better. Every detail had been considered, from cozy linens and a fully stocked kitchen to high-speed Wi-Fi and even a welcome basket with pasta, fresh produce and local treats. Even eggs, juice, wine and butter was provided. The location was perfect: quiet and peaceful, yet close to everything we needed—shops, restaurants, and attractions were just minutes away. We especially loved relaxing taking in the gorgeous views from the huge picture window in the living room. We couldn’t have asked for a better stay. It was truly a home away from home, and we’re already looking forward to booking again. Highly recommend this gem to anyone looking for comfort, convenience, and a touch of luxury.

Property was properly represented in the listing. Great and very unique location. We were provided plenty of towels and a nice basket of fruit, pasta, olive oil, pesto sauce and a bottle of wine. Very clean and the a/c worked well. There were a few ants but nothing to complain about based on how the unit is built into a seaside cliff. Getting the vehicle close to unload is very tight but nothing unexpected. Public parking near the beach for overnight was easy. A great stay!

We were so pleased when we entered this amazing property. It was every bit as nice and interesting as the pictures had us hoping for. The location is terrific. With the huge windows overlooking the public beach below opened to hear the waves and let the breeze in, we felt we couldn't possibly find any better place the be. So we took advantage of the thoughtful gifts of food and wine set out for us and prepared our own dinner in, and breakfast the next morning. The kitchen was well supplied and there are two markets within a 5 minute walk to get whatever else you need. We loved our stay here. Our only note of caution is that it would be a tough place to stay for anyone with mobility issues or young kids due to the narrow stairs and smooth floors.

I can’t think of a more interesting place to stay in Cinque Terre. It is such a cool experience staying at Il Gigante! The view is unsurpassed…you can literally see all 5 Cinque Terre towns while sitting on the sofa in the living room. The place was spotless when we arrived and there was local produce and specialty foods left for us. They even had a chilled bottle of Prosecco for us. One word of caution…the beautiful stone floors inside are quite slippery if you’re just wearing socks, so maybe wear shoes or slippers with a grip.
