Historic Old Town has been the heart of Albuquerque since the city was founded here in 1706. Today, Old Town is the city's cultural center, with numerous museums and more than 100 shops, galleries and restaurants. Old Town’s narrow streets and century-old adobe houses are home to New Mexican eateries serving enchiladas and sopapilla pastries, and tiny artisan shops selling jewelry, rugs and pottery. Old Town Plaza is a charming spot overlooked by the 18th-century San Felipe de Neri Church. Nearby, the New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science has dinosaur skeletons, while the Albuquerque Museum displays Southwestern art.

PLEASE NOTE BEFORE BOOKING (we like to set clear expectations to ensure that our guests have the best possible experience!)
* The Cowgirl Suite is located on the lower level of our main building, and you may experience some noise from upstairs, typical of a 2 story historic building.
* The suite is one of our largest, but the bathroom is one of our smallest (and might be a little cramped for really tall or long legged people). The shower requires a step-up that may not be ideal for elderly or disabled guests.
* The futon bed and primary bed are in the same bedroom, so if you plan to use the futon make sure you are all ok being in the same room. This property is not suitable for pets.
If you think this might not be the best fit for you, you may wish to consider one of our upstairs or standalone suites.

Overall would recommend Desert Compass to others. The suite was tidy. The location was awesome. The bed was comfortable with 2 options for pillow type. It felt secure with gate codes and door codes. However, I would caution against staying in any first floor unit or at least the Cowgirl Suite. We could hear our upstairs neighbors walking back and forth. Similar to living in a bottom floor apartment. You also won't get much sunlight and what little you can you will likely opt out of as it means opening shades to the common areas where other guests are. There are as enough lighting inside to make up for it, but I prefer natural light. The water pressure in the shower was amazing but the bathroom is painted black making a dark area darker and the shower is elevated so stepping out is a bit hazardous. There was no shower mat available either and I hated using a towel for that reason, but had a very real concern about slipping. We did not spend much time in the common areas but they looked great. Comfy lounge seats in the sunlight, hot tub, and cozy seats around a gas fireplace. Would definitely come back, but would aim for a different unit.

This listing is amazing! The accomodations are super cute, up to date, very New Mexico. This place would be amazing if you're traveling with a group as there are several units available at the same location. The outside area was super relaxing at the end of our days. Plenty of lounge chairs to sit and chat, the pool and hot tub areas were perfectly clean and ready for use. Multiple sitting areas to choose from. If I had to come up with a negative or soemthign to point out, it would be the smaller kitchen. This was not a negative to me, I do not cook, but if you're traveling and like to cook its worth mentioning. Host was very responsive and courteous. I would definitely stay here again.

We were delighted to discover the Desert Compass. This little gem is well-maintained, super comfortable, beautifully decorated, and the locale cannot be beat. We parked the car upon arrival, and never had the need to drive. We could walk to shops, museums, restaurants, bars, and grocers with ease. We'll be back!

My time at Desert Compass in the Cowgirl Suite will never be forgotten. I was hosted here during my time in ABQ and it was great. I loved the paintings, and all the decor. The king bed was comfy. The best part is that Desert Compass is in a great area in Old Town. I would love to stay there again.

We had a wonderful stay in the Cowgirl Suite. My husband and I were traveling thru the Southwest celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary. Great tucked away gem for quiet evenings yet close walking distance to Old Town and just about anything you want to do!

Loved this roomy, charming place. Big property with fun outdoor features like hammocks and picnic benches, fire pit, and hot tub (though did not use). Unit itself was fabulous—enormous, tastefully decorated, and had lots of personal touches. Smack in Old Town but quiet and so lovely to be across from Tiguex Park. Less than 1/2 mi from Sawmill Market made for easy dining, too. Ample parking, comfy bed, plenty of privacy. We were in downstairs unit but noise from above was not an issue. Will definitely return.

Desert Compass checks all the boxes. Location. Class. Comfort. Artistic authenticity. I stayed here by myself and loved every peaceful minute, but can just as easily imagine filling the entire compound with friends or family and loving it just as much! Thank you, Desert Compass!
