Our stay was wonderful. The place was clean and had everything we needed to have a pleasant stay. Loved the yard and being able to look at the owner's flowers. We would definitely stay again!

The observation deck had an amazing view of the property.

Really loved the location next to the beach & & short drive into town. Room was clean & comfortable, having everything I needed for my visit .

Marie made us feel right at home. The layout to go from our room to the outdoor deck for grilling and up the tower to view the surfers was well thought out.

Greg and Marie were great hosts. We thought the location was excellent and the room was very clean. I especially liked the decor inside and the yard was so well kept. We loved the lookout in the backyard. My husband saw whales every day. The only thing that might put someone off is the very pro Trump flags and lawn signs and a full size blow up of the man by the front door. So be aware if you’re a Dem or from a country that Trump is trying to take over! I did find it a bit stressful.

Good value and location for the price. Facilities were a little dated but it was well maintained and clean. The birds sang very loudly so if you need quiet at night that could be problematic but if you enjoy the sound it is pleasant. I would stay here again.

Our hosts Marie and Greg were very welcoming!We lived walking down to the beach to watch the surfers and the sunrise and views from the crows nest. Beds were comfy, strong hot shower, a sofa and chair for seating plus a table for 3 all indoors. Safe quiet neighborhood close to town.

Marie was a lovely host. We enjoyed our stay very much and would stay with her again.

If I could give Marie & Greg 10 stars, I would. This was our second visit and it was even more outstanding than the first. They make you feel like old friends or treasured family instead of just VRBO guests. The neighborhood is quiet, convenient to everything on the east side of the big island and offers anything you could need for a relaxing visit. We will return again!

The place was as described and the host very helpful. The observation deck makes the experience. There is a significant amount of political decor around the property . You may or may not appreciate this ambiance. I would have liked to have known that before booking as it wasn’t the vibe I was for on vacation.

Friendly hosts who let us pick lemons and limes from the trees in their yard. We felt very safe in the area, quick walk to the beach, and AMAZING sunrise views from the overlook!!! Wish we booked at least 3 nights! It is also a very quick drive in to Hilo. Cannot recommend this place enough!

Could not get the tv to work

Perfect location to explore every spot on the Big Island! Studio is amazing and the gardens on the property are gorgeous. Beautiful sunrises from the tower.

We did not stay. Did not feel comfortable. The converted garage was not appealing at all.

Small clean and tidy with everything yoy need and a little more. The observatory platform was the perfect place for coffee and the water is so close.

Perfect spot for our time in Hilo. Property was cozy, clean and well stocked. The location of as the absolute best. We will be back!

This was just the right size for the two of us. Marie and Greg were super friendly and kindly let us have access to all their amenities including the outlook (great for watching the sunrise) and the gate that gives you easy access to Honoli’i Beach. Every activity we did was about 15 minutes away, aside from visiting the volcano which is about an hour drive. Hoping we can visit again soon!

Check in and check out process couldnʻt be easier and her flexibility in (last minute) allowing us to stay an extra night was awesome! Thank you!

Very nice hosts and lovely place to stay and beautiful property

I loved this accommodation! It was auper clean and well appointed! Marie took care of all the little details! It was the perfect set up for me and my two girls to stay for a few nights while we explored around Hilo. The futon bed could be thicker but we knew what it was when we booked and the girls are young and can adjust! I loved chatting with the hosts and really enjoyed looking at Marie's beautiful orchids! The frogs (which we nicknamed pookie frogs because thats what it sounds like they are saying) become active in the evening and sing continuously until sometime early in the morning. I found them to be soothing and pleasant. But I am used to farm noises and love springtime when I can open my bedroom window at night to hear the crickets and the frogs in our pond. Overall it was a wonderful stay!

We visited to attend a wedding

I rented this place because of the information/picture. I envisioned starting our day relaxing with coffee on the deck while enjoying ocean views. The photo advertised is actually the owner’s. The rental is in the back with no view and no place to sit without dragging kitchen chairs outside. What the photo also doesn’t accurately show are the 47 signs, flags and blow ups surrounding the property. The washer is also in the owner’s house so you have to ask to use it. It was not the stay we had anticipated.

The location of this guest suite in Hilo was great, and the hosts were friendly and communicative. However, I was extremely uncomfortable with the numerous political signs displayed around the property. This isn’t something that was shown or mentioned in the listing, and I was so caught off guard by the atmosphere upon arrival that I initially turned out of the driveway.I respect that everyone is entitled to their views, however, I believe it’s important to give guests a full picture of what to expect. None of this was mentioned or shown in the listing, and had we known, we would have booked elsewhere. Transparency in listings is important, and this was a major element that felt deliberately excluded.

We loved this stay. The lookout perch was our favorite part. Especially in the morning for sunrise.If were ever back in Hilo, we would not hesitate to stay again.

Everything was as expected, and the hosts were gracious and welcoming. The directions and instructions were clear and accurate. The lovely rental was equipped with everything we needed, and we particularly enjoyed the view from the observation deck. The Coqui frogs were loud at night, but we found their variety of calls funny and entertaining. The property’s location was a great base for relaxing or exploring the Hilo area.

Our stay was amazing! Location was perfect for everything that we wanted to do around Hilo. Greg and Marie are lovely! View was gorgeous. We would recommend highly as a home base for sightseeing around Hilo.

The guest suite was as advertised. Directions were easy to follow and having our own parking pad was nice. While we believe everyone is entitled to their own views, several significant politically motivated decorations adorned the property, including a large flag at the top of the observation deck which detracted from the viewing experience. As Canadians who are being impacted by the ongoings of US politics, we would not have stayed at this property had the pictures on the VRBO listing accurately reflected the existence of these decorations. Apart from this, the guest suite was clean and we enjoyed how close it was to the beautiful black sand surfing beach.

Marie was a super friendly host! Our check in was smooth and the suite we rented from her was clean and had what we needed. This is a separate suite on her property. The observation deck in the yard was the best to view sunrise and sunset watching surfers catch their waves. Bring earplugs as the coqui frogs get loud and sounds like non stop chirping.

We had the most wonderful stay! The host was so attentive & friendly! We loved our accommodations and the beautiful lookout! We will visit here again!

Hospitable hosts sharing their great location with this rental unit. The unit is as described and convenient to the airport and downtown restaurants. Hosts are excellent.

Located just yards from the Highway this rental would be a welcome haven to any MAGA American. The exterior is festooned with multiple Trump flags, Trump posters and an actual 7’ inflatable Trump which remains lighted all night. The interior was clean and the hosts polite. Certainly misleading listing photos.

This was a wonderful place (it’s an addition connected to the owner’s home) in a great location just north of Hilo. The owners were very nice and the observation deck was great to watch for whales and look at the surfers.It was great to fall asleep listening to the frogs and waking up to the birds. The gardens and plants around the house were amazing.Thank you so much!

Property was attractive with the exception of political campaign signs in the yard and an 8ft tall illuminated balloon effigy of Trump standing in the driveway outside the front door. That was haunting and unacceptable as we had come to Hawaii to recover from the political chaos post election. political chaos

Marie and Greg were very welcoming hosts. The unit at the back of their house was a small, rustic studio-style unit. Bed was comfortable and the unit was clean & had a/c - an older unit in the kitchen window. While having a larger fridge would be handy, we managed with the bar fridge.The best part about staying here was the access to the lookout tower which provided amazing views from Honoli'i surf beach all the way to Hilo. Wonderful place to sit and have coffee in the morning, tapas & drinks at night, or anytime. Their kittens would visit us as did many gorgeous, fluorescent colored geckos. The landscaping around the property is amazing. The only drawback is that it attracts the tiny coqui tree frogs which like to sing all night. Easy fix - plan to have earplugs for sleeping. Great and affordable location for exploring Hilo and Volcano National Park. We stayed four nights and are glad we did.

I’m not sure what we expected. We didn’t see the fine print that this was attached to the owners home. It was very small and the windows don’t actually close so there were a lot of bugs in the place. Also at night the sound of bugs outside was insane. Maybe if the windows could close it would have been better. Our biggest complaint is the amount of Trump paraphernalia all over the main house. Huge signs, flags, and a giant blowup doll of Trump. You’re welcome to your political opinion but it was uncomfortable for us to be there. I find it very unprofessional and inappropriate to have this stuff at a place you are renting out. You don’t know who is staying there and we are definitely not fans of his. If it were an option, we would have left because of it. So to recap, it was small, loud, dirty, full of bugs, and covered in ugly Trump stuff.

Quaint charming property, the outdoor space was very inviting, fantastic view of the ocean, overall a perfect getaway for whatever your needs may be, from intimate escape to family fun time. I loved my experience and will return

Wonderful host

Great location, off the main road and across the street from the beach. Rustic cabin decor, as pictured, bed and extra futon sleeper were comfortable. Observation deck is great, a real bonus with lovely views. Clean, adequate furnishings and basic kitchen supplies. Safe neighborhood, easy drive to downtown Hilo. The singing frogs are noisy at night! Hostess was gracious and cordial, very responsive. Would not hesitate to stay here again should I return to Hilo, lovely property.

We thoroughly enjoyed this guesthouse that was a quick hop to Hilo. In addition to the listed amenities, we enjoyed the fragrant gardens, the orchids, and the view of the surf

We were so surprised to find the great surf spot below at the black sand beach! Walking past it, down the road we found a gorgeous waterfall and old bridge. BRING GOOD EARPLUGS! the coqui frogs “singing” all night is loud! Very responsive and nice owners.

This was a great spot in Hilo. We were visiting friends and busy touring the island. So, the guest house worked great for the 2 of us. We were able to sit on observation deck and it was lovely!! Would stay here again.

This place has a very rustic vibe, almost like staying in a cabin. The owners are very friendly and so are their cats. We loved watching the surfers from the lookout after a long day of exploring. The only thing we missed was a fridge with a real freezer compartment, but that was only a minor inconvenience. We would stay here again.

Convenient to Hilo. Right off the main highway. Unit has everything you need and the owners were really nice.

This is a great place for two! We had everything we needed. The a/c struggled a bit to keep up, but it helped and there were fans. This is a nice location: just a couple miles to town and the beach is across the street! The observation deck is great! We watched the surfers while having coffee in the morning and cocktails in the evening. The property is beautiful! From the orchids that they grow right outside the back door and the variety of flowering plants coming into the driveway and yard. We didn’t get to meet our hosts, but we did meet their family. They were so nice and Hanna, the youngest, 5, was the perfect hostess! The cats were distant, but friendly enough that we got our cat fix too. We’ll definitely try staying here again!
