Summary:

Welcome to the Grand Dame of Shaw, a stylish downtown retreat perfectly positioned between Shaw and Logan Circle, ideal for business travelers and families alike. With two queen bedrooms, a queen pull‑out sofa, fast Wi‑Fi, and a dedicated workspace, it comfortably supports work trips, conferences, or school‑age kids in tow. The well‑equipped kitchen and nearby grocery options make meals easy, whether you’re cooking or bringing takeout home. Aftera full day in the city, unwind together on the comfy sofa or out on the private rear patio with morning coffee, an afternoon book, or an evening drink

The Space:

Guests enjoy the entire ground‑floor apartment, thoughtfully set up for up to 6 people. There are two comfortable queen beds with thick mattresses in the bedrooms, plus a queen pull‑out sofa in the living room. You’ll have a full bathroom and a full kitchen with coffee maker and microwave, so you can start your day on your own schedule.

In the living room, a Smart TV lets you log into your own streaming accounts so you never miss an episode, and the desk makes it easy to get work done between meetings or sightseeing. The apartment is professionally cleaned before each stay for your peace of mind.

Nestled on a quiet one‑way street near Logan Circle, the Grand Dame of Shaw sits just steps from historic Naylor Court and Blagden Alley, with their murals, bars, tucked‑away restaurants and don't miss the best coffee shop in town, tucked away in Blagdon Alley, Lara Colombe! If you’re driving, we can register your vehicle for a visitor parking pass so you can park on the surrounding residential streets more easily.

Guest Access:

Guests have exclusive access to the entire lower‑level unit; it is not shared.

There is a family living upstairs. Please note that the everyday sounds and noises of family life (footsteps, stairs, kids playing, etc.) can be heard in both directions. You will undoubtedly hear them (and they will hear you) as they go about their everyday life.

The Neighborhood:

You’ll be in one of DC’s most historic and sought‑after central neighborhoods, right at O Street and 11th Street. The area offers a diverse mix of entertainment, dining, shopping, coffee shops, and grocery stores. Whole Foods is about a 10‑minute walk, and Trader Joe’s is roughly 15 minutes on foot.

Just a short stroll away, the 14th Street dining scene has become one of DC’s culinary centers, with everything from chic and trendy spots to hidden hole‑in‑the‑wall favorites, plus French, Asian, Spanish, oyster bars, diners, and more. You’ll definitely want to check out some of our local recommendations.

This downtown neighborhood puts you in the middle of the action—walking distance to many of the city’s hottest restaurants and bars—while still offering the privacy and quiet of a residential street. Gourmet supermarkets, world‑class restaurants, coffee shops, gyms, yoga studios, and everyday conveniences are all just a few blocks away.

Getting Around:

You couldn’t ask for better access. The apartment is about a 14‑minute drive from National Airport and roughly an 8‑minute drive from Union Station (Amtrak and a major hub for the city’s sights). The Mt. Vernon Square Metro (Green/Yellow Line) is just 2 blocks away, and Gallery Place (Red Line) is about a 15‑minute walk.

Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport is typically a 39–45 minute drive, depending on traffic and Dulles is a similar distance. Whether you choose Metro, rideshare, or car, it’s an easy starting point for getting anywhere in the city.

I absolutely adore this place and it will be my first and preferably only home away from home when I visit DC (which is often)

Great location for the Convention Center. Easy walk. The apartment is a good size with good accommodations. I wouldn't stay there again, unfortunately, because of the upstairs neighbors. Our first night there, they had a party until 3am. It was soooo loud! Not the fault of the owner, but... I wouldn't do it again.

Updated, well stocked, clean; safe area with lots of dining options within easy walking distance. It was tight for our family of 5 but doable. We did not walk to the metro station as it was really hot and rideshares were inexpensive. Parking was good for the week with the printed street parking pass and we mostly left our minivan parked while there. Riding bikes on the mall at night to see the memorials was fun and cooler than trying to do this during the day. Good visit.

We had a comfortable stay, although the sofa bed mattress leaves something to be desired. The mattresses in the other rooms were great. We didn’t spend a lot of time outside of sleeping so our needs were met.

The location was great. It was clean. I would recommend that they tell people who have never been in the area about the parking. Host was okay we had a few situations that I wish they were more concerned. So disappointed in communication. Dryer was broke.

I would not choose to return to this VRBO. I would add perspective to this review but VRBO limits how much I can write. This property is a garden level 2 bedroom, 1 bathroom apartment, located in a gentrified neighborhood proximal to the city center. It presented as described on the VRBO website. The kitchen was well equipped with dishware/glassware and with good appliances. The central heating was adequate. A ride share was never more than a few minutes away. The street had the feel of an affluent urban neighborhood with lots of people walking dogs or going about their lives.A few good restaurants (Unconventional Diner, Ghostburger, Mariscos) and a small food mart are easily reached on foot. Walking at night did not cause concern. This stay was marred by significant plumbing problems. We could not bathe for the first 48 hours due to a lack of hot water, and even after a plumber reportedly repaired a broken bathtub faucet, we found it difficult to use the shower because of tepid water temperature, and warm water turning cold quickly. A chief reason for choosing this property was for its bathtub; however, the tub could not be used for a lack of hot water. The property manager responded promptly when contacted the morning after our arrival; however, the person they sent to fix the problem, on the third day, could not achieve improvements to a satisfactory level. I cannot recommend this property until the plumbing is working properly.

The facility is clean and well-maintained. The location is also convenient, making it easy to attend conferences at the Walter Washington Convention Center. With two rooms featuring double beds and a sofa, it comfortably accommodated three men. Additionally, the kitchen is fully equipped with various utensils, making cooking and dining hassle-free.

We had a wonderful stay. There was plenty of room for our family of 4, the property was very clean and nicely kept, kitchen is well stocked. We had a problem with the party right above our apartment one of the nights and even though it was late Saturday night the manager was very quick to respond and was able to fix the problem (called a neighbor and straighten thing out). If I could give 6 stars for the service I would.

This property worked well for our small group. It wasn’t too far from the mall but still about a 30 minute walk. We discovered was shorter walk to the metro And that made it much easier to get around. There is also a small grocery store about 10 minutes away if you needed snacks. The rooms stayed fairly cool. You had everything we needed for our stay

This was a nice apartment in an upscale neighborhood close to the main tourist attractions in D.C. It was a little tight with our 4 teens (we have a blended family) but we made it work well. I was thrilled that the apartment included complimentary coffee, filters, sugar, creamer, two different types of tea, as well as shampoo, conditioner, body wash, paper products and plenty of laundry and dish detergent. The outdoor patio space was nice. When I had a question for our host, Lara, she quickly responded. Check in process was easy. It would have been nice to have had a mirror in the main bedroom, but that may only be an issue for us as we do have 3 teen daughters ? Overall, loved this place and would highly recommend!
