Glen Choga Lodge is a historic mountain retreat nestled in the serene forests near Lake Nantahala, North Carolina. Built in 1935, the lodge has long served as a peaceful haven for travelers and nature lovers seeking the quiet charm of the Smoky Mountains. While thoughtfully restored over the years to provide modern comforts, it still radiates the rich character and timeless beauty of its early Appalachian roots.

Step inside and bask in the inviting warmth of the lodge’s stunning timber interior — a harmonious blend of American Chestnut and Poplar, skillfully milled on-site. The majestic, yet cozy, stone fireplace, warm textures, and thoughtfully curated period furnishings create a comforting atmosphere that embraces you the moment you arrive.

Acquired in 2019 by Doug and Terri Matern, Glen Choga Lodge has been lovingly brought back to life as a welcoming bed and breakfast where history, hospitality, and natural beauty come together. The shared spaces are designed for connection and relaxation — whether you’re curling up with a book, enjoying meaningful conversations by the fire, or simply gazing out at the tranquil forest that surrounds the lodge. You will find that the Glen Choga Lodge was meant to be enjoyed by all who enter.

Just minutes from Lake Nantahala, guests are perfectly positioned to enjoy a wealth of outdoor adventures. Explore scenic hiking trails, spend a day on the water, or experience the thrill of whitewater rafting on the famed Nantahala River. Whether your heart seeks peaceful rest or exhilarating adventure, Glen Choga Lodge offers the best of both.

Warm, intimate, and filled with mountain charm, Glen Choga Lodge is an ideal escape for romantic getaways, family gatherings, or small retreats. No matter the reason for your stay, you’ll find a place that feels like home — where simple joys, natural beauty, and heartfelt hospitality await.
