Situated in an idyllic hamlet within the magical pine forest of La Brena behind the village of Los Canos de Meca, the views lead through the verdant landscape to the sea and the historic lighthouse of Trafalgar. Casa Margareta offers a very special experience. The tranquility of its natural surroundings makes it a great choice for that relaxing 'get away from it all' holiday, yet the summer 'buzz' of the beach is just 5 mins away. The living space is open plan and boasts a glass wall of four doors opening onto a large, shady patio, filling it with light and allowing the outside-in.The garden terrace made of rustic railway sleepers is great for sunbathing and the perfect place to sip those sundowners. Chill for sure, but we are also ideally located for an incredible variety of activities, culture and adventure. How about walking, horse riding or cycling in the forest; a day out to one of the many famous historical Andalusia villages/towns nearby; or a simple stroll down to Canos beach to take in the sublime view to Morocco across the water

Casa Margareta is unusual in the area, in that it offers the best in contemporary design, modern facilities and comfort in genuinely Arcadian surroundings. This Mediterranean Modern apartment is fueled by solar power, inspired by Corbusier and much cared for by its owner. The large airy open plan living/dining/kitchen area is stylishly furnished with a mix of the modern, vintage and ethnic,.This opens onto the shady covered terrace with a wooden table and 4 chairs for outside dining, and a fabulous L shaped outdoor sofa for relaxing. There are lovely views to the pebble garden, the rural landscape and the sea beyond. The underfloor heating provided by solar panels ensures total comfort in winter and on chillier days and can be purchased separately for cash.

The garden is very special.and one of the highlights of staying at Casa Margareta. It has been imaginatively landscaped with different sized pebbles, wooden posts and Mediterranean architectural planting. A large palm tree is the focus in one corner, leading the eye down towards the sea in the distance. All the neighbouring houses have large, rural gardens too, and so do not impinge on each other in any way. The surroundings are very green at all times of year , the pine forest always an inspiration, the bird and animal life always vital ( including cows with tinkling bells, allowed to roam the forest in the winter), and the light of the Costa de la Luz always happily reminding us of where we are - somewhere very exceptional.

Loved our stay in such a beautiful place, an unspoilt and surprisingly green, part of Spain close to beautiful beaches and fantastic food.

Sadly, we were very disappointed with our stay. The house looks good in the photos, the owner being a professional photographer, however the comfort levels were basic, and furniture had seen better days. There was a washing machine. However, there was no clothes line or clothes horse available to dry clothes. You should be aware that the wc facilities are incapable of dealing with toilet paper. There is no bin collection service so you will have to bag and dispose of used toilet paper. The nearest bins are about 2km away. Take care when sitting on the garden furniture. The outside dining chairs were wooden and flimsy, and when my husband sat down on one for the first time, it collapsed under him damaging his back and neck. Overall it is the worst place we have ever stayed.

We stayed for 15 nights mid winter and loved the place. It is right on the boundary of the magical La Brena Forest and close to the sea. The sound of the sea is audible all the time despite the lovely bird-song present. The house/appartment has a tranquil feel to it and is beautifully decorated in a personal style giving a sense of an artistic owner. The underfloor heating was essential as we stayed in early January. The place was a comfortable temperature day and night. The garden is full of exotic Mediterranean plants and cacti and has ample little places for sitting in shade or sun. The location is unique and the experience was similar.- quiet, peaceful and restful. If you have the pleasure of meeting the host it will add to the experience of a welcoming place to spend time. One thing I would have liked was better lighting in the kitchen area. We would have booked for longer had we known how special the place is. Gratitude for creating this space! Catherine and Eugene

Los Canos de Meca, as we found out, is a surfers' paradise on the Atlantic coast of Spain. After 3 weeks on the Costa del Sol and a week hiking in the Sierra de Grazalema, this was a very interesting change. The overall vibe of the area is very relaxed and due to the time of the year (February) it was not busy which was a plus, but on the downside, there were few restaurants open. The weather was very predictable - sunny most days and temperatures in the upper teens and low twenties. The town itself is a bit run down but it is very convenient as a base from which to explore the area. Tarifa is 40 minutes drive and from there one can easily get to Tangiers, Gibraltar is 90 minutes, and Cadiz, one of the most beautiful cities in Spain is 40 minutes. There are plenty of Roman ruins in the area including Bolonia, Ubrique and right in Canos itself. Our accomodation was removed from the town itself but still within earshot of the surf and was in a small enclave. We rented a two bedroom apartment on the ground floor of a two story house. The upstairs is occasionally occupied by the owner and otherwise is not rented. The front of the house looks out on a quiet garden and faces west for the afternoon sun. The inside is reached through French doors that lead directly to the kitchen and living room with the two bedrooms and bathroom to the right. The kitchen, which we used extensively, was convenient and included a clothes washer, although no dishwasher. We really enjoyed our stay!

Lovely house and garden well equipped, quiet and peaceful. Brigitte the local person looking after the house was great. The forest setting is ideal for those seeking a place to stay away from the crowds but the house is also in easy driving distance of beaches, cafes and shops so perfect really.

We had a very enjoyable stay. The property was much larger than expected, located in a small hamlet in the pine forest near to Caños.

We had a wonderful week at this peaceful yet well connected house in the pine forests close to Barbate. The house is stylish in it's design, and perfect for a holiday home - simple and clean, yet cool too! The garden space is great to relax in, and the planting imaginative. Access to both beaches and places to eat and drink is fabulous. Many thanks to Miriam and Brigitte.

Tastefully furnished, very comfortable and well equipped. A remote retreat that wasn't remote at all. Only a short walk to Town and Sea. During our stay Miriam was in residence and was friendly and interesting to chat with. Our stay was extra special as we had the company and love or Nero the local friendly cat..... Highly recommended and will be returning.
