Kulm, North Dakota
A perfect place to escape to, when you want to get away from...(you fill in the blank)! For us Texans, we flee the summer heat.
Built in 1906 as the First State Bank building, this property has gone through many alterations to meet the needs of the small farming community.
Located in the heart of the Northern plains it is perfect for a writer's retreat. This second floor loft in the center of a very quiet, very friendly, very small town is just where you will want to be.
Take some friends to enjoy the slower pace or use the second bedroom as a studio or office. Find whimsical decor and fun elements that attempt to retain a bit of the original bank offices this second floor was originally built to contain.
2 bedrooms (1 king and 1 queen) & 2 bathrooms will sleep 4-6 (queen sleeper in the living area).
Sorry, but 22 entry steps are not handicapped friendly (use the elevator we’ve installed) but they do act as a built in fitness center!

Beautiful farmland, fabulous fishing, a well maintained nine hole golf course, and salt-of-the-earth people will encourage you to make this a regular retreat. Go to rest, go to write, go to escape the rush of your regular world and remember what a slower more thoughtful time was like.

We had a nice stay with family. It is a quiet location and perfect if you have events happening in the area. The space is clean and updated.
internet had no problems everything was great only complaint i had was a clock that went off every hour with bird noises
What a wonderful place to stay! No expenses were spared to make the stay fabulous. Even the quality of the bedsheets and towels enhanced the accommodations. Plus the decorating is unique with many of the pieces having historical significance. This loft could be featured in an interior design magazine.
Clean, comfortable place to stay for a few days. Enjoyed being in close proximity to a grocery store and outdoor activities.
What a great property...thought it was going to be a quiet weekend attending my niece’s graduation but it turned out that this place was the destination. My niece and her friends popped in and out... we played corn hole on the deck and cards on the large dining room. The kitchen amenities helped us to adapt to feed the crowd of unexpected kiddos. The cute touches were not lost on us the writing desk has an interesting history. If you stay here check out the narrative to discover it’s secret.
We had a wonderful time staying at the Lone Star Loft in Kulm. The space is beautifully decorated, and well appointed. We weren't lacking for anything. Kitchen was fully stocked, the beds were sooooo comfortable, and the space was easy to access. It felt like a mini spa --- we loved the master bath shower! I corresponded with the homeowner quite a bit -- through VRBO app, personal email, and phone -- and she was always quick to respond and very helpful. We have family in the area we were visiting, so when we return to Kulm/Edgeley again, we will for sure stay here. It was so relaxing! Thank you again, Mary!!
A quiet little hideaway that will remind you of days past. Has everything you need to rejuvenate in a small town of yesteryear.
The loft is comparable to a five star hotel. It is beautifully decorated, clean, comfortable, and a boon to the Kulm community. I would definitely return and recommend it to anyone interested in a quality accommodation while visiting Kulm. Customer service is excellent and readily available.
We considered this “home” during the 9 nights we stayed here. It was comfortable, homey and beautifully decorated. Mary was in touch with us to be certain all our needs were met. It was convenient to the grocery store, cafes and hardware store in Kulm. Saw relatives and met some new friends in this friendly town. We will definitely return again!!
Here for the 125th anniversary of this small town. The Loft has everything we needed and is so cute!!!
