Genoa, well-known port city and capital of Liguria region, is historically known for its important role in maritime trade over the past centuries.

Known as one of the most extensive medieval historical centers in Europe, the heart of Genoa is a maze of alleys that unexpectedly open up into small squares, often related, like the churches overlooking them, to important noble families.

The spirit of Genoa lies in the alleys, where different smells, tastes, languages and cultures perfectly blend in.

In the historical center is the Cathedral of San Lorenzo, in Romanesque style with a black and white striped façade and frescoed interiors. Narrow streets lead to monumental squares such as the Piazza de Ferrari, with its characteristic bronze fountain, and the Carlo Felice opera house.

The Genoa aquarium, the largest in Europe, is unmissable and iconic. The exhibition itinerary shows more than 70 environments and about 12,000 specimens of 600 species, coming from all the seas of the world. An unforgettable experience for young and old, which will fill your heart with emotions and a deeper respect for the sea and its extraordinary inhabitants.

Not to be missed is Genoa’s culinary tradition, with its iconic basil pesto, famous all over the world, and the “focaccia”, which can be either salted and topped with olives, onion and tomato, or even sweet and stuffed.

The accommodation is 1,2 km from Genova Brignole station and 11 km from Genoa airport.

Positives. Great location, outdoor seating, comfortable bed, and quiet. Negatives. The place was not very clean. Stuff is everywhere not in cabinets. Cleaning supplies, boxes, fans. portable air conditioners... Outdoor seating area – mossy, moldy and breeding ground for flying things; which you will know if you open the windows. Terrible kitchen. One wine glass, no moka coffeemaker, 1 dish towel, no dish soap, an no cooking utensils, pans with handles falling off. The stove does not work. You can light 3 of the 4 burners but they won’t stay lit. The shower is almost unusable. Nearly impossible to control the water temp. The sliding doors don’t close all the way and one of them wont stay on its track, no shelf to put soap, shampoo, etc. The drain is clogged and you have about 3-4 minutes from the time the water is turned on until it overflows onto the floor and once it does drains you can smell sewage coming up from the sink drain. The second bedroom is hardly usable. The door opens about 40% of the way until it hits the bed. Since there are no closets anywhere, the second bedroom has a portable hanger rack that takes up almost all the floor space. There is a washing machine but nowhere to hang close for drying. I’ve been to Italy +30 time and have used Wonderful Italy twice. My two worse lodging experience ever. Look for another lodging option in Genova.

International travel can be daunting, but booking with Wonderful Italy takes a lot of the stress out of the process. Not only was the property nice, but they helped with airport and port transfers, porterage of luggage, restaurant recommendations and more. Bravo!

Absolutely perfect location to explore Genova. Easy access to metro/train & bus stations. The inner courtyard was private enough even though other residents had access to this shared space. The only negatives were that it was really hot when we stayed and there was no air con or electric fans in the apartment, we opened the windows as wide as we could to try to reduce the heat and humidity but we only got bitten by mosquitoes during the evening and night. The cooking area was ‘really’ basic and the fridge had no freezer compartment, this gave us even less ways to cool down. I had to repair the shower’s sliding doors on several occasions, but it was worth the inconvenience just to have a cooling cold shower. Teething problems that need to be addressed on an otherwise perfect Genova vacation base.
