Chatham, Massachusetts
** SHIP'S LIGHT IS CURRENTLY UNDERGOING A MAJOR RENOVATION! Having stood the test of time for almost 200 years, the house is now mostly gutted, awaiting a new foundation, upgraded systems and a modified floor plan. We hope to begin renting again later in 2024, when the house is ready for the next 200 years! In the meantime, we will post updates here and will look forward to hosting you again soon! **
Ship’s Light has looked down Cross Street to Chatham Village Center for more than 180 years. Built and occupied by some of Chatham’s most eminent residents since 1825, it was converted to four housekeeping apartments for summer visitors circa 1945. Lovingly restored by long-time current owners, this gracious antique home offers modern comfort and convenience with the character and charm of a bygone era.
Named for the original owner and builder of Ship's Light, the Prince Harding apartment is a one-room studio, with a kitchenette, bath with shower and lovely front porch. Airy and light, this apartment has been updated in 2017. The main room includes a queen-sized, four-poster bed, dining table & chairs, comfortable seating area and flat screen TV with cable. Wireless internet service is available throughout the house. Perfect for a couple, the kitchenette has an apartment-sized range, microwave and refrigerator with freezer. Enjoy your morning coffee on the private front porch with your loved one or watch the sunset while sipping a glass of wine. The charm of the apartment is further enhanced by the warm glow of beautifully refinished, wide pine, antique floors.
Centrally located within a short walking distance of excellent Chatham dining, shopping, movies and band concerts, the house is three blocks from the town salt water beach on Oyster Pond, and one mile from Coast Guard Beach, a great stretch of Atlantic Ocean and dunes. Many individuals, couples and extended families consider Ship’s Light their vacation home. We invite you to join them in making your vacation something special.
The Prince Harding apartment at Ship’s Light is rented for minimum 3 night stays during the summer and for minimum two night stays during the shoulder and off-seasons. Other units with unique features are also available and the whole house can be rented as a 5-to-6 bedroom home for family gatherings.

Nice. Comfotable room. Walking distance to almost everything in Chatham.
Cozy and quaint…. Wonderful history of the house was provided.
There were no amenities: shampoo, tea/coffee. Called the host twice with no response. Will not stay here again.
The property is exactly as presented! No surprises. Small, but well supplied for two. The location is ideal! The owners responded very quickly to a small issue we encountered. Would love to return!!
The apartment was quaint and located nicely on a quiet street just off the main street in Chatham. The kitchen was very clean and so were the appliances that were there. The kitchen and bathroom areas were tiny. The air conditioner only cooled the bedroom area. Otherwise, we enjoyed our stay and would have liked to meet the owners! Thank you.
The neighborhood was quiet and quaint. Walking distance to the town.
I grew up going to Chatham, so to have found a little spot so close to Main Street was great!
I'm grateful Allison shared the sweet studio space with me.
An easy stroll to town, the shops and restaurants. A short drive to Monomoy Wildlife Refuge for a nice scenic hike. Owner very responsive to questions and assisted when I requested to stay an additional night.
Very nice
Nice property, but the one bedroom apartment is a little to small. I understand their renovating it for next year we Hi how will help. And it’s a great location.
We both loved everything about The Ship's Light. We ate breakfast on the front porch every morning and enjoyed wine there in the evening. In between, we walked to Main Street every day (less than 5 minutes away). We walked to baseball games, craft fairs, garden tours, musical events, the windmill, shopping and dining (including Lobster roll Friday at the Methodist Church). This property is a jewel.
I rented this place for my daughter who was working in Chatham and the location was great and place really cute !
Booking was easy. Location was great! Iron didn’t work….but we borrowed one from another tenant. Couldn’t catch them to return. Commode is wobbly…..but not a problem. Would stay here again.
Quaint first floor apartment with all you need to relax after exploring.
