Activities in the area: The Grossarltal is also called the valley of the alm because of the large number of alpine meadows. The dairy farmers in the managed huts are happy to spoil you with a hearty snack. On the menus are mainly fresh Alpine butter and sour cheese, homemade bread and of course the right nightcap - the famous Stamperl schnapps. The valley is the starting point for alpine hikes at the foot of the Hohe Tauern: 250 km of well-marked hiking trails lead to the Hohe Tauern National Park
