Bologna, known as the Learned for being home to the oldest university in the Western world, the Fat for its gastronomic excellence, and the Red for the colour that characterises its historic centre, is a marvellous city of art, culture, and commerce. Its soul resides in the medieval historic centre, which is one of the most extensive in Europe and rich in taverns, shops, and theatres, characterised by almost 40 km of porticoes. In the historic centre is Piazza Maggiore, where the charm of medieval palaces perfectly blends with modernity. Not to be missed are the Fountain of Neptune by Giambologna and the Medieval Towers, the Asinelli and the Garisenda, part of a rich cultural heritage preserved in numerous museums, galleries, and religious buildings. Our stay started off great. Paula met as at the apartment when she said she would. She showed us how everything in the apartment worked and said a new coffee make would be dropped off the next day since the one in the apartment was broken. We spent 3 nights and a new coffee maker never appeared. We were told to use the moka pot... there was no moka pot. We were in the middle of Italy with no way to make coffee...?!? The excuse for not bringing a new machine or a moka pot was a strike; I could not find any mention of a strike that weekend... The power to the large appliances (e.g. room heaters, stove top, washing machine / dryer, dishwasher) kept cutting off. The load control unit in the electric panel kept cutting off the supply to these appliances. This was not a huge problem except for the heaters. When the power was restored to them, they did not go back to heating the apartment. (BTW it was end of December...).Communication with the management company was... not great. It took many messages to get a response, except for with Paula after our check-in process; we had some questions that afternoon / evening that she answered immediately.
