Stayed Oct 7, 2024Paid for reservation 2 months in advance at beautiful high rise rental for 1 month while wife had spinal surgery. Could never contact owner. VRBO would not release my payment until 4PM of day rental was to occur. Late at night before we flew into Chicago owner texted saying VRBO never contacted him, and my money was deposited in a closed account The unit wasn't available. My wife was to go into serious surgery with rods placed in her spine - and we had nothing. VRBO could do nothing until 4PM deadline passed because it still might come through At that point there was virtually nothing available for our needs. VRBO kept saying they had my back but the reps weren't in a position to do anything except refund money once deadline passed. The owner assured me he could arrange another unit upstairs, but at last minute the day my wife was in surgery he claimed the owner of that property wouldn't talk to him and nixed the arrangement. We went to a hotel. Be aware that even if you are booked and paid - there is no guarantee of a unit - and VRBO really can't do anything - nor will release your funds until check in time is passed. a nightmare of an experience. We were supposed to stay near hospital for 4 weeks in event of untoward results of wife's spinal surgery.
