For travelers seeking an urban, budget homebase from which to explore the rest of Maui, Yonegan Central might be your ideal getaway location. From Unit E, you'll step into the beating heart of downtown Wailuku - with its many eateries and the historic Iao community theater. Just up-country to the North lies the Iao Valley, 4,000-acre, 10-mile-long hiker’s paradise, home to one of Maui's most recognizable landmarks, the 1,200-foot Iao Needle. To the West, is the Ma’alaea Harbor and the Maui Ocean Center, one of America’s best Aquariums. Beyond that, is the recovering Lahaina and the resort town of Kaanapali – where visitors are again welcome. The South offers the pristine sandy beaches of Kihei and Wailea, launch point for local dives and ocean cruises. For variety and economy, there little that matches the charm of Yonegan Central.

We felt it was in a sketchy part of town and when we saw the place it looked run down and shabby. We decided not to stay there.

I would give this property five stars if I were a solo traveler because of the value for the money, but only four stars with two or more occupants. The space is small, but there is a murphy bed that a solo traveler could use while still having floor space for a suitcase to be open, and the murphy bed could be easily closed each day to make even more room. Because we were there as a couple, we had to use the sleeper sofa, and with that open it is pretty tight getting to the front door. The sleeper sofa also squeaked every time I moved in the night. We found it a pain to put the bed away every day, so we just left it out, since we were not there much. Otherwise, it had decent amenities and was a good value for the money. It is also walking distance from two very good places for breakfast, 808 Old Town and Tasty Crust, which we appreciated.

I stayed in town for work and this is what needed to be close to the court and have the basics. The property manager was executional and solved a problem getting into the room easily and was very courteous given I had to all at 10pm. I am staying here again when I am back on work.
