Madison, Connecticut
Birdsong is a handicap accessible apartment, which is attached to the west side of our house with beautiful views of the sunsets. We have 2 acres of land with lush gardens and a waterfall and lily pond. The cathedral ceiling apartment, with plenty of natural light, has an open floor plan of a living room, dining area and kitchen with a separate bedroom. The bedroom has a queen size bed with California closets, while the bathroom has a handicap accessible shower and sink. In the kitchen you will find everything you will need to create your own favorite meals. Have breakfast, lunch or dinner on the terrace in this tranquil setting, while listening to the waterfall of the pond. A gas grill is available for use.
The town of Madison, which is located on Long Island Sound, is a perfect destination for relaxing an exploring. Centrally located - New York City is 2 hours away while Boston is 2 ½ and New Haven twenty minutes. The train from the downtown station will connect you with all of these destinations, but why leave the quaint town of Madison. Stroll through the town center and you will find an Cinema, the renowned RJ Julia ‘s independent bookstore, coffee shops, a cheese shop, International and American restaurants, boutiques, a library, outdoor sculpture by nationally renowned artists and a large grocery store.
Joining us for the summer As is typical of New England towns, there is a green in town, where you will find concerts, a farmer’s market, arts and crafts fairs and antique shows from May through September. On the 4th of July weekend, join the local fun watching the parade, relaxing at the Pops summer concert and watching the fireworks.
Madison’s beaches, as well as, Hammonasset State Park (beach), have playgrounds, tables and grills for picnicking, sports fields and bocce/pétanque courts. (We will provide the pétanque balls.)
There are trails throughout town where you can hike and a nature center for birding and learning about the local animals.
There are a myriad of things to do for those cool or rainy days. You might decide to follow the Impressionist or the wine trial throughout Connecticut, or you might visit one of the many museums, go shopping (there are 2 Outlet Centers within a 20 minute drive), go to the theater, listen to live music or visit one of the gambling casinos.

Great scenery all around. Peaceful place to stay yet close enough to everything you need for a fun trip to the coast of CT.
The accommodations at Birdsong were spacious, comfortable & exceptionally clean! We were greeted by our hosts Kathleen & Dean, who gave us a tour & showed us everything we needed to know to make our stay as smooth as possible. We had delicious scones, wine, & beautiful flowers upon our arrival - we enjoyed the outdoor patio with the humming birds & lovely flowering landscape. Beach chairs , towels, umbrella & beach pass were available for us to use during our stay - there were lots of great restaurants nearby. Kathleen & Dean responded quickly to any questions we had throughout our weekend. It was so quiet & relaxing. We are looking forward to staying at Birdsong again soon! Trish & Bill
We had a wonderful time! The place is perfect! Thank you!
Everything great - well-stocked and lovely yard and gardens. Mattress a bit too firm for us. Our only semi-complaint.
We were lucky to find this property last minute when our other rental with a competing company fell through due to cleanliness issues. The hosts were fantastic and welcoming. Spotless rental, you could eat off of the floors! Absolutely everything one needs for a comfortable stay was provided. Fully stocked kitchen, huge washer/dryer and great AC. The location is fabulous. Quiet, quaint and filled with the most lovely sounds of birds. We travel to Connecticut frequently to visit family and we will only be booking here going forward.
We had a lovely stay at Birdsong. In both form and function, it exceeded our expectations. We also loved the quiet, beautifully landscaped setting. Dean and Kathleen, Birdsong’s hosts, were very warm and welcoming. We highly recommend this lovely gem in Madison.
A few qualifications about us might help the effectiveness of this review. We are very experienced with VRBO rentals (20+ years) .We’re birders & foodies. We always cook & eat at least 2 meals in our rentals every day, so a good kitchen and proximity to wild lands are very important to us. The property is an annex 'in-law apt.' on the owner's main house. The home is deep in a wooded tract and there is considerable privacy. Business dealings with the owner were straightforward and transparent. They are hands-on owners, but in no-way intrusive. There are some ropes to know regarding recycled wastebins and the owner's arrival tour was very clear and straightforward. The owners were very generous with perks like banana bread and wine . The kitchen layout is logical and efficient, and everything works. We found everything we needed and it was well-stocked with basics. There is an attractive patio with an outdoor table from which we saw many species of birds including a nesting family of chickadees. We heard barred owls at night. There is a water feature and the owner keeps bird-feeders stocked. The bed is very comfortable and the entire house is very clean The bathroom deserves special note. It is extremely spacious and airy, and there is a beautiful tiled walk-in shower. This is a pricey rental but we felt that we got more than our money's worth. Highly Recommended.
This rental is a very private and relaxing getaway in the country. I was very satisfied with my stay .at Birdsong.
Birdsong is a beautifully designed private addition to the main house that is filled with natural light and views of the lovely gardens and woods which surround it. The house is accurately represented in the pictures, and had everything we needed and more. Kathleen and Dean were more than welcoming hosts. We have rented Vrbo homes several times a year for over 10 years and honestly found this home to have the most thoughtful ammenties provided by the hosts. Madison was a less than 10 min drive from Birdsong, and is a delightful town to explore; don't miss Ashley's voted the best ice cream in CT. Birdsong is also conveniently located to explore other coastal CT towns.
5 Stars all around. Luxury in-law's apartment, quiet, surrounded by woods. Home is immaculate and well furnished. Host is an excellent communicator and does a fabulous job. Flowers and a water feature, beautifilly landscaped. Just an A+ property and at a wonderful price.
We had a great stay in this spacious apartment.
Birdsong was a great place to relax and unwind in a quiet wooded setting. The apartment was just as pictured on VRBO - immaculately maintained and nicely decorated. Our hosts were both very thoughtful and welcoming. We would definitely stay there again.
Everything about Birdsong is 5 star +. It is a beautiful location, first class amenities, super hosts. We are experienced world travelers and this is by far the best home rental we have ever had. Will be back next year?
We had a wonderful stay at Birdsong. The setting, hosts, accomodations were charming and outstanding. We loved it! Plan to return next year.
Great scenic and logistical location. Close to beaches and towns. Very well named ‘Bird Song’
My wife and I spent a few days at this charming getaway. Its name Birdsong apply describes this charming apartment. We enjoyed mornings with our coffee watching the birds, especially the hummingbirds, and beautiful surroundings. The charming couple Kathleen and Dean were exeptional hosts.
The property is exactly as shown in the pictures. It is truly a hidden gem in the Madison. It was close to places to eat and the ocean but yet secluded enough to enjoy the peace and tranquility of the area. Kathleen and Dean couldn't have been more pleasant and helpful. The attention to detail was above and beyond any other rentals that we have stayed in. Thank you, Kathleen and Dean, for making our first visit to Madison, CT such a wonderful experience.
Hosts Kathleen and Dean made us very welcome and we appreciated all the special touches. The property is exquisite! Location is great…close to major roads but tucked away just enough so it feels like a sanctuary. Quiet and relaxing. Hope to go back on our next visit to CT!
Perfect in every way! The hosts met us with milk, bagels, cream cheese, butter, coffee and 2 bottles of wine, along with fresh flowers and a lovely card for our anniversary. They thought of EVERYTHING to make our stay 5+++ in every way! We can't wait to come back!
Everything was LOVELY and the hosts are warm and inviting. So glad I booked on VRBO. The surrounding area was wonderful and the scenery gorgeous. I highly recommend it.
Birdsong is a lovely oasis of tranquility and rest for the soul. I simply couldn't have imagined a better place to rest, write, and relax. I definitely will be returning in the future. Kathleen and Dean were gracious hosts who immediately made me feel right at home.
