Take it easy at this unique and tranquil getaway! The Arboretum Suite gives you a part of both identities of the historic Manor House at Gayfield. The bedroom is in the Manor House, with the original heart pine flooring and elaborate molding from circa 1850. And the living/kitchenette area is a in the bright and alive Greenhouse that was constructed in the 1970's. The Arboretum Suite has a cool balcony area that is outside the living/kitchenette area, and inside the colorful Greenhouse!r>
There is an 850 yard long path down to the large Monocacy River which borders the East edge of the farm. There is about 1500 ft of river frontage, but it's not really possible to manicure the river bank so you'll need to work your way down to the water as if you were in the wild if you'd like to fish or launch a kayak.

Currently several animals from D&D's Petting Zoo and Pony Rides are boarded at the farm and include ponies, a zebra, a miniature donkey, goats and other such critters. The animals are very friendly!

In support of the global effort to conserve energy resources utilizing reasonable practices, we use a maximum heating setting of 71 degrees and a minimum cooling setting of 72 degrees.

The Manor House at Gayfield Estate was originally built in 1850 by the Jarboe family, and currently sits upon 144 acres of farmland in Central Frederick County. The farm has had three owners, currently owned by the Bartlett family and before them the Morans and the Jarboes. Thomas Jarboe served as a County Commissioner in the 1800's and William Bill Moran was a world-famous knifesmith.

The Jarboe family commissioned a major addition in 1895 when the Northwest turret, 4 rooms on the Southeast side, and the stone water tower were added. So the Jarboe family had 'running' water in the 1800's, which was rare at the time.

Although the house has been modified over the last nearly 200 years , all of the wood floors throughout the house date from 1850 and in some rooms 1895, and nearly all of the woodwork dates to the same periods.

Before our trip started, we were asked to switch rooms to accommodate some other guests who wanted to extend their stay. We went along with it and agreed to change our original booking (not ideal, but not a big deal). Upon arrival, we were impressed by the handsome mansion set far back from the road. When we went to our room, immediately my husband had to kill two yellowjackets (I am deathly allergic ). Assuming it was a fluke, we carried on checking out the rest of the space, which was very cute). My husband went into the tower room; looking around he noticed a bird on top of the heater near the ceiling. A BIRD! He opened several windows in the room and was able to coax the frightened bird out. Weird. When he went to make up the futon couch, he grabbed the bedding that was folded on a chest. When he opened it up, a pink rubber cleaning glove fell out. Again, weird. In the morning my husband went to the tower room to see it in the daylight, and there were SEVERAL yellowjackets swarming around. They must live in the wall? We can't stay where I could possibly die, so we asked for a refund. Our host became very defensive and somewhat accusatory of us, as if we were making up such things. He then became unresponsive . When we did reach him finally, he told us we had to go through vrbo to get any sort of refund and denied any responsibility . From before we even arrived until the end, the whole experience was awful.

Title says it. We stayed 1 night out of 4. The bathroom is awful--the tub is at least 55 years old, and the finish shows it in that it is completely disgusting with mineral staining, and filth ring. Water came in the windows from the property manager spraying them with a hose while we were in the room--after blowing the roof above us off while we were in the room. I asked for a refund for the last two nights and the owner/manager ghosted me--haven't heard back. This place is terrible.

We really enjoyed our stay. The home is beautiful, unique and historic with the added benefit of being in a convenient area. The host is exceptionally responsive and helpful. Would definitely recommend staying here and would certainly stay again.

Despite VRBO’s booking software double booking this rental during our stay (entirely VRBO’s fault), Joe went above and beyond to accommodate us. He generously provided us with a wonderful replacement accommodation in one of his beautiful rentals nearby with river views. I would absolutely book with Joe again, but will only do so on another platform that VRBO will not permit me to specify... VRBO’s booking system is unreliable and their support team refused to take any responsibility for their technical errors.
