TOWN
Vega Baja is a beach town perfectly situated at the center of the Island’s north coast and it's known as the city of the “Melao Melao,” a type of concentrated sugarcane syrup that is honored in the names of a handful of local events throughout the year. Less than an hour from San Juan, it is known for its fertile plains, its rich history, and beautiful beaches, among other pleasing attributes.

The Puerto Nuevo beach is a lovely spot with crystal-clear water and it's located just a 7 minute drive from the property. It has received the distinct Blue Flag recognition that it is among the cleanest and safest in the Caribbean, and its beauty draws boricua and visitors alike. People with disabilities can more easily enjoy this beach thanks to specially adapted water seats, an amenity that is provided free of charge.

The Parque Ecológico Ceiba Pentandra is ideal for birding, hiking, tours, or simply for relaxation and contemplation. Its biggest attraction is a huge and majestic Ceiba tree.

Climb and experience the majestic beauty of the porous formations and landscape in Roca Norte Outdoor Climbing Gym. This outdoor recreational area has more than 30 climbing routes perfect for beginners and experienced climbers alike.

The town’s Butterfly Farm, part of the Trece Botanical Garden Recreational Area, located on Barrio Almirante Sur on Highway 160, provides sanctuary for dozens of species of butterflies. The Monarch butterfly is one of the most common sights you’ll see there, thanks to the local presence of the milkweed, which is a favorite of that species.

Vega Baja is home to many cafes and food stands that show off local flavors. For sit-down affairs, Bocaito Bar & Restaurant serves up fresh dishes like mango salmon, mofongos, seafood tacos, palleas, and more. And La Cava Del Norte boasts an amazing wine and cheese selection, along with a long list of tasty, gourmet sandwiches and soups.

The historic district spreads around the main plaza of the town. You’ll immediately spot the dome of the town’s historic church. The majestic City Hall which was built in the early 1900s.

The Casa Alonso Museum, located in an attractive old home, exhibits hundreds of years of Puerto Rican history, art, and culture. Found in the center of the town and built in a Creole neoclassical style, the building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1996. Visitors can enjoy period furniture and decorations; as well as exhibits celebrating popular Puerto Rican music, famous Puerto Rican poets and patriots Don José Gualberto Padilla, and his daughter Doña Trina Padilla de Sanz. The library, the Pedro Albizu Campos Research and Studies Room, contains a collection of documents and books of historical, political, and literary relevance.

GETTING AROUND
We strongly recommend renting a vehicle to move around. Uber is unreliable outside of San Juan.

This place is everything you could ask for in a RENTAL. Beautiful, quiet, spacious, clean and near a lot of stuff especially the Vega Baja beach. This will be our vacation rental moving forward! The staff Miguel was so kind and helped us with any questions we had. We had friends and family who always was staying in Vega Baja and they came to see our place and ask for the info cause next time they wanted to stay here as well!

My sisters & I (over the age of 50) along with a 2 yr-old stayed for 5 days.Check in process was good, as we were parking to find the building, the host was actually outside at the property to greet us. Located about 45 mins from San Juan. PROS: Host was absolutely great with responding & communicating. Directions given were directly to the condo. Inside the unit was clean & pretty well maintained. CONS: To enter the vehicle gate you have to dial-in & not use the code that's provided in the instructions given. There are no keys to get inside the unit as said in the instructions given-you must use a code on lockpad. A/C in bedrooms only-be aware if you are not used to staying in a place that's not cooled throughout, I think this should be thoroughly explained in the property listing details. A/C in the first bedroom only blew out warm air, the host said a technician came by to fix it while we were out but during the 5 days we stayed-it never got fixed. 2 fans were provided, 1 was for the upper level (it was EXTREMELY hot upstairs-we never used that area due to it being so hot) only 1 fan worked & we were never provided a replacement after In mentioned it to her. A TV would be nice in the living room, a rental host book for guests would be-we couldn’t find the 1st aid kit. More fans would be nice to cool other areas of the condo. Building hard to find (no fault of the host).

We were not happy with the tired sketching looking neighborhood. The building was unappealing dirty and unkept outside had to climb three flights of stairs to get to apartment. Furniture appeared well used. Fridge dirty the amazing views from patio were really a view of apartment building across parking lot that was dirty tired looking …no amazing view. The spiral staircase to get to roof patio was very narrow and unsafe. When communicated with host we were told the building is due to be painted and rehabed . Not helpful for our vacation. Would not recommend this property

We had a wonderful time in this quiet community. Kids loved swimming. The management was very responsive and courteous during our trip. The only item is that wasn’t great was the shower. It would go from hot to cold and back to scalding hot, couldn’t get it to stay a consistent temp. The place has been upgraded with nice appliances and the view was pretty. Very close drive to the beach areas. We really enjoyed our stay!

We normally stay around the metropolitan area but wanted to try something on this side of the island. This place is exactly what you see on the pictures. The bedrooms are comfortable and the AC worked like a charm. The TV room is upstairs and a bit tighter but it leads to a great outdoors sitting space and view of the area. Overall, it makes for a quick access to the area beaches and night spots. We are already planning next year’s stay at this location.
