The apartment was restored from a paper mill to make spectacular accommodation with exposed stone walls and original beams. The accommodation is arranged over two floors. Downstairs comprises of an open-plan lounge, dining area, and fully equipped kitchen, complete with a dishwasher and washer/dryer. For your entertainment, there is a flat-screen TV and DVD player. The apartment boasts views over the nearby river and cottage courtyard.

Upstairs there are two bedrooms. The double bedroom has a bathroom adjacent, with a large walk-in shower, washbasin and WC. The twin bedroom has its own en-suite bathroom, with a washbasin, WC, and bathtub with fixed overhead shower. Fluffy towels and bedding are provided for all guests.

Stayed with my husband and two teenage children for 4 nights over Christmas. Lovely cottage with everything we needed, and even the bonus of a Christmas tree. Lots of parking and great central location to Winchcombe. Only downside would be number of steps up to the property which made unloading and loading the car hard work and wouldn’t recommend to people with mobility issues for that reason.

Bathrooms are nicely updated and comfortable. Location for Cotswold or Winchcombe way walks is perfect. There are nice places to eat in town which is a short easy walk. I would not stay here again without substantially better beds - it was like sleeping on a pullout sofa.

We stayed for an event at Sudely Castle. The apartment is very well located both for the castle and for Winchcombe - just a short walk from both. It’s well equipped, with toiletries, condiments, tea, coffee etc - always nice to have a decent coffee machine! The beds and sofas are very comfortable. My only complaint is that the en-suite shower temperature ranges from too hot to scalding - we all had to use the main bathroom shower instead (which is very good), and the taps in the en-suite have been installed the wrong way round. We’ve already booked it for the same event next year!

Stayed with family (4 adults) for 3 nights over the weekend and it was perfect.the accommodation and its position were brilliant. Also the added bonus of access to Sudeley Castle was a massive bonus. Loved the little extra touch of a welcome tray. Beds so comfortable too. A real home from home. Will definitely be returning. Also would recommend The Lion Inn, had a meal there Saturday and it was superb.

Lovely stay, everything we needed and within walking distance of Winchcombe for food in the evening. We had a great time but if I am being nit picky, the squeaky floor boards in the bedroom need sorting. The skylight windows need a good clean and I didn't enjoy being woken by the heating coming on at 5 am! I admit we probably shouldn't have checked the instructions.

Very good. The flat is excellent and when we had a problem with the heating it was repaired immediately. Towels, kitchen equipment etc very good, beds comfortable. Lots of steps so not great for anyone with mobility problems, but other flats or houses on the site would be just as nice. Lots of off street parking. The staff who helped with the booking are extremely nice and professional.

We had a lovely stay and slept very well. Some items in the kitchen (plates and glasses) had been left greasy and we thought fire safety could be improved (the nature of the windows, with such narrow panes, was a little unnerving!) The information about the local area and nearby walks was fantastic and the location was excellent, close to the centre of the village but very peaceful. We would stay with Bolthole Retreats again.

We loved the convenience of this location for exploring the castle and area. The cottage was very comfortable and cozy. It was also very clean except for the many large dead black flies all over the bathrooms which led us to wonder if chemicals had been sprayed shortly before our arrival. We also tried to no avail to get in touch via telephone and email with customer service the day before we departed to request late checkout or bag storage while we toured but never got a response. Overall a wonderful visit but those two things prevent me from giving 5 stars all around.

Cleaning was not particularly good with lots and lots of dead flies all over the property. The access corridor and staircase shared with adjoining apartment cleanliness was poor, the carpet clearly not having been cleaned prior to arrival. More significantly, the corridor and staircase which is the sole means of escape from the property and the adjacent apartment had no lighting whatsoever which constitutes a major safety failure and contravenes Part B of the Building Regulations. Some fittings, for example, the free standing lamp in the lounge requires fixing/replacement. Overall, the property was somewhat tired and in need of some refresh work.

Encountered hundreds of dead cluster flies on our arrival, bathroom was unclean with hair and debris clogging up the plug holes. In need of some basic maintenance to bring this up to the supposed 4 star standard. Very disappointing for the price.

The standard of the accommodation was great but we were overrun with flies. They seemed to lodge in the bathrooms and, fortunately, were close to death. We think it is something to do with the window coverings. One of the dining chairs had a very wobbly leg probably due to the table being close to the fridge so a squeeze past is needed. Perhaps turn the table round slightly? I rang to request an additional key and was told someone would get back to me but never did. Perhaps a container for recycling material could be provided. In the bedroom with the double bed the window leaked onto the carpet but there had been a torrential shower and this may not happen with a lighter shower. We did enjoy our stay and I hope these comments are regarded as constructive.

We had a wonderful stay at the Oliver Cromwell cottage near Sudeley Castle. The old paper mill is tastefully decorated and the beds were very comfortable. Bathrooms, kitchen, living area, dinnerware, cutlery, cooking utensils.... everything was stunning. The extra special bonus was entry to Sudeley Castle which is awe inspiring!! We had a superb 2 night stay and would highly recommend it if you get the chance. The surrounding nature and stone cottages and terraces are postcard beauty - we couldn't get enough of Winchcombe.

Lovely clean rooms with modern facilities in a property full of character. Some nice touches - fans in the room, milk in the fridge - were the icing on the cake. Cleaning fee seems on the high side but the overall price is still a good price for the space you get. A word of warning for first time visitors to Winchcombe - there are various pubs and restaurants in the village but all require booking for a weekend evening (in August at least...) - don't expect to be able to walk in and get food without a reservation!

We had a wonderful time. The apartment is great and the location is perfect. Changes? The front door key is awkward and the bedside lighting too low. Apart from that all good.

I wanted somewhere to stay that was convenient for Giffords circus at Sudeley Castle. Bolthole Retreats had properties in the grounds and so I booked Oliver Cromwell. It proved to be absolutely perfect; within easy walking distance of the circus, the castle and Winchcombe. For a two night stay with friends it was excellent value for money compared with a hotel. The property had been sensitivity restored, retaining elements of the original building whilst incorporating modern facilities. The seating area and beds were really comfortable and the kitchen was fully equipped. Entrance to Sudeley Castle and gardens was complementary which was an added bonus. Winchcombe itself is delightful with a range of shops and some excellent pubs, restaurants and cafes. The surrounding area also has plenty of opportunities for visiting.
