A Cozy 3-bedroom, centrally located in peaceful Fairbanks with WiFi

The host sent check in instructions on time before our stay but the keypad ended up not working - not sure if it was weather related or not. We called the host and they picked up right away and helped us to get into the property. They offered to come to fix the keypad in the initial phone call but later in the day I got another call from them asking if we wanted them to come fix the keypad or if the alternative entrance worked for us and when we said that the alternative entrance worked, they never came to fix the keypad. Other than that the property was as advertised. It was clean and comfortable. It was what we needed for our one night stay, although if we had stayed in the area for longer we may have wanted a bigger place.

Delayed check in due to cleaning crew and the kitchen lacked basic cookware and utensils

We were disappointed that the unit hadn’t been cleaned prior to our arrival at the check in time. The owner responded quickly to my texts but it still was 4 hours past the check in time before the unit was cleaned. The beds were comfortable and the location was a short drive from the airport.

We checked in, though we had to ask for the door key as it was not given before we arrived. Once inside, though it was clean, it was not what was advertised. This is not a 2 bath, it’s a 1.5 bath, and one of those is very small. The washer and dryer were coin operated, in a very dank basement. It is also not a house, as we thought it would be. It is an apartment. After leaving for a meal and returning, we could tell someone had been in the apartment while we were gone. Left at that point, as there were no ways to secure the doors other than the electric lock. Our spouses felt this wasn’t safe.

It was good overall.

Firstly, I have never written a bad review. The VRBO advert only showed interior pictures, and none of the exterior or neighborhood. For personal safety reasons, we chose to forfeit our money, as we decided not to stay at this property. It turns out our concerns were right, as there was a shooting that weekend, just walking distance away. As well as a police raid on a suspected drug den. I recommend that any potential travelers do some homework on Street view maps before committing.

The location has close neighbors above and to the sides. Occasionally loud, but very nice people who respect any request to quiet down. Convenient location to anything in Fairbanks. Parking was tight for our big vehicle, but a standard SUV or smaller would have no issues.
