The location is great, very close to the train station and the centre. The apartment is in a lovely building and the apartment itself is beautifully decorated and has all that you need.

It is a comfy yet modern apartment with the best bed. Great location too! I stayed at the retreat for a few weeks and it was absolutely lovely.

Perfect little stay for a birthday getaway. Super location with everything you’d need around and within the apartment. Apartment was clean, comfy and just what we wanted. Couldn’t fault anything.

Things we loved: the bed! It was soft and at first we had doubts but it was perfect- we called it “The cloud bed” because it felt like we were getting into a big soft cloud and we loved it, the bath! Just lovely and not where we expected it to be!, the washer/dryer which was very useful and saved us time not having to find a laundry service, and the welcome basket was a lovely surprise. What could be improved- the little patio is small and at the base of a chute really but it could be made more inviting with a few plants or inexpensive decor. We were missing a few small items like soap for the dishwasher and a scrub pad for dishes. We ran out of toilet paper quite quickly and we also needed to buy washing machine detergent - not a big deal but these were all short supply or just not there. Instructions for most things were readily available and very clear - including manuals for the various appliances. The location was perfect for us coming from the train and just a short stroll to all the things we wanted to visit. We could hear people above us a little but nothing excessive and really had a quiet, lovely stay. We would definitely return and recommend!

Our stay at the retreat was absolutely perfect. The apartment was in an excellent location to the town centre and train station. The hamper on arrival was a lovely touch, and we loved working our way through all the snacks! We stayed for two nights and wanted to stay for longer. This was our perfect relaxing couples getaway. There’s a Sainsbury’s around the corner where you can easily pick up anything you need. I loved that the bath had its own little room in front of the tv! The bed was so comfortable and we loved having the doors open to the terrace. I’d recommend this stay to anyone! Perfect in every way. We loved this stay so much, all we’ve been talking about is when we can return. Hopefully won’t be long!!

A beautifully appointed apartment in a great spot in York. Very comfortable bed , good quality bedding and towels. Extremely clean and York Stay service courteous and helpful as always. Now onto the heating/water system. This has been mentioned in previous reviews and it really does need sorting out. Heating is run by a smart device which has no instructions by it or in the welcome/instruction pack that we could find. It was cold in the apartment when we arrived so of course we tried to turn the heating up but it appeared to be quite complex (and we are reasonably tech literate) and after a while we gave up and called Stays York who kindly came out. They showed us how to work the heating dial, but even then, some radiators stayed off, some on and blasting out, some stayed on and then went off seemingly at random. The radiator dials were also hit and miss, some worked, some didn't. We - or the people who came out from Stays York - must have inadvertently altered the water setting on the dial. Either way, there was little hot water that evening and none the next morning. So, on a cold April morning we had a freezing cold shower and had to boil kettles to wash up and shave etc. We rang Stays York but it was a Sunday so there was only an emergency number and by then we were checking out anyway. Lastly, the bathroom underfloor heating did not come on the entire time (Stays York explained that this was 'remotely controlled') so that was pretty uncomfortable. Bear in mind that this is a basement flat - these tend to have pretty cold floors anyway. Yes, this is a lovely, high spec apartment. But we wouldn't stay again without assurances that the heating/water issues had been properly addressed. Guests should not be spending their precious holiday time scratching their heads and trying to work out how to stay warm/have a decent shower let alone a bath.

The apartment was lovely and quirky, and equipped with everything we needed for a relaxing few days. A short walk away from the restaurants, shops, city walls and minster meant it was conveniently placed for everything we wanted. The welcome pack full of delicious treats was a lovely surprise.

We loved our beautifully appointed apartment in York, within walking distance of everything you’d want to see and do in this historic town. The welcome basket of foods and Prosecco was loaded with specialties from York and we enjoyed being able to easily walk to Yorkminster, take one of the free historic walking tours, the York museum, and of course the famous Shambles. So many wonderful pubs, restaurants and shops to enjoy. We really loved the apartment and can’t wait to return to this beautiful town for a longer stay.

The property was decorated to a high standard and very comfortable. However we unfortunately had some issues - with the shower (was not draining properly), bathroom heating (could not be turned on) and a living room radiator made loud noises meaning it had to be turned off. Whilst these were annoying the apartment is well worth it assuming these issues are fixed.
