Cottage 15 is a lovely rustic cottage with one king bed, a full bath with shower, A/C, mini-fridge, cable, television, iron/ironing board, hairdryer, coffee pot, microwave, and free Wi-Fi.

Cottages at The Open Hearth Inn are a rustic but private little base camp for all of your Acadia Adventures. These cabins (9 in total) have been on the property since sometime in the 50s and although they are `vintage` in nature, they are a comfortable trip back in time ;). Just a mile away from thefirst picnic area in the park and the welcome centre, this property is the ultimate budget option for a place to stay while you play.

Located on Route 3 at the head of Mount Desert Island, The Open Hearth Inn is 12 miles to Bar Harbor, 9 miles to Acadia National Park, 15 miles to Bass Harbor Head Light, 12 miles to Southwest Harbor, 8 miles to Ellsworth, 35 miles to the Schoodic Peninsula of Acadia National Park, 36 miles to Bangor, 65 miles to Camden and 163 miles to Portland. The Bar Harbor Hancock County Airport is a half-mile up the road.

The Open Hearth Inn makes a great home base for day trips around Downeast Maine and the coastal beauties such as Mount Desert Island (MDI).

Simply self-check-in properties. Customer service is available 24/7. Feel free to message and we will get back to you within two hours. :)

Trenton is the town just off of Mount Desert Island (MDI to the locals) which is home to Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor. We are just a mile from the first park picnic area and shortly after the fabled trails of Acadia including Beehive, Precipice, Cadillac Mtn, Beech Mtn, Little Long Pond, and all the popular tours like boating, puffins, lobstering, and lighthouses! It`s an adventurer`s paradise and that is exactly why we bought the Open Hearth Inn ;).

Free parking right outside your door (all cottages have parking TO THE LEFT of the cottage)! Bakery and Lunts Lobster shop within about a 1 min walk just across the road. Trenton is the gateway to Acadia and the park starts just half a mile down the road!

Acadia National Park is just a quick 10 mins down the road and the centre of Bar Harbor a mere 20 mins. Experience the beauty of Mount Desert Island without the hustle and bustle of downtown Bar Harbor while still being fairly close to anything you could possibly need for the best Maine adventure. NO matter the time of year; spring, summer, autumn, or winter The Open Hearth will always be waiting for you.

Pet Policy:

Here at Open Hearth Inn we welcome your four-legged family member. However, we ask you to help us with the following pet rules while staying with us.

1. Please don`t leave your pet in the rooms unattended.

Why Because they miss you and from our experience of being professional hosts since the 90`s, when they are lonely they howl or bark causing others to lose the quiet enjoyment on the property. Lonely pets also use the bed or other furniture to snuggle on while you are away. This is super tough for our housekeepers to remedy because blankets or comforters need to be washed or replaced, also furnishings can take hours to remove hair from so we can present a clean space for the next guest.

Maine is a very pet friendly place and since you brought them on vacation we hope you keep them with you so they can enjoy `Vacation Land` as much as humans do.

2. Please pick up all the poop/excrement they may have.

3. Please have your pup on a leash when enjoying the common areas.

4. Please try to refrain your dog from barking.

We have dog treats, extra poo bags and a water bowl in the common room.

*There will be an additional cleaning fee charged if your pet makes a mess of the room or the bedding. We hope that you and your four-legged family member have a great stay here at Open Hearth Inn.

No other notes. Feel free to ask any questions. :)

The accommodations are rustic and minimal, so you will want to plan to eat out while staying. They do have a mini fridge and microwave. A little further from the park than other cabins, but well outside the Bar Harbor traffic woes.

We enjoyed our stay here. It was cozy, as advertised and perfect for us. We stayed here with our dog and had plenty of room for her and her kennel. Would stay again.

Very tiny with no table and only one reading chair. Prior to visit had e mailed managing company with questions but no response. Perhaps this tiny room would suitable for one person

Nice place, price was good. Weather was extremely hot, so the air conditioner was on overtime, and was not doing a good job. Very moist and humid in the unit. Convenient to find, and on the main road to popular destinations.

My husband and I needed a one night get away and this was perfect. Love the hot tub. The cabin (#15) was very spacious and we did not feel crowded at all. Love the heat pump as well, we were very warm. We didn’t use the main common kitchen but we did take a tour and what a gorgeous space. Thanks for a great stay.
