The location is terrific - it was clean and the bed was comfortable. However, it was not up to VRBO standards in terms of supplies, kitchen equipment, linens. It is not a place for 3 people. The couch was not very good to sleep on, even for an 11 year old. And as another reviewer pointed out, the stairs are difficult.
The unit was comfortable and convenient to capitol locations, attractions, and dining options. The owner was friendly, kind, and and communicated very well with me.
Great location for my meetings at convention center Cute little place Needs a lot of little Maintance items. Loose fixtures lights socket hanging out. Ect.
The post is misleading and deceiving. This is a basement property which is not evident when reserving. The photos do not accurately depict the location and dungeon experience. The site does not show photos from the bedroom windows which are carefully hidden. Accurate photos would show the unit is below a deck with much debris attracting more rodents. I lived in DC 10 years in similar row houses and NEVER experienced so much rodent activity on a property. I opened front door to have a rodent run inches from my feet. I could not leave door open for ventilation as I was concerned rodents would run inside. I then listened to a small pack of rodents fighting only feet from my pillow directly outside window. I would have NEVER rented this property if it was made clear upon reservation this is a basement unit with a horrific back area and a collection of trash cans close to front door attracting rodents. I vacated 5 days early of a 7 day stay and owner refuses to refund for days unused. The owner stated this is DC living and I should stay at hotel next time and she refuses to refund me for unused days. Beware. The photos are misleading.
We are looking forward to coming back.
Overall, the apartment was more than adequate. The nook at the front windows looking out on charming old buildings across the street was a perfect place for breakfast and for reading the papers. The bed was comfortable and there was plenty of closet space. As with many vacation rentals, the kitchen was a little short on normal basics. We never found pot holders, for example. Also, we had learned beforehand that there was no toaster. But we were driving, so it was easy to bring our own. That's not so easy to do if you are flying. One thing to be aware of is that this is a basement unit with steep steps down from street level. Negotiating it would be difficult to negotiate for many older people and for those with mobility issues. A hand railing would be helpful. The unit lists a washer and dryer, but when we arrived, the dryer had an Out of Order sign. That was a blow, as we had packed assuming that we would have a laundry day. The manager, Sofia, told us that parts were on back order. But in a way, this was a blessing in disguise. When we informed Sofia of our plight, she arranged to have her cleaning crew dry our washed clothes in another unit in the building when we were ready. They not only dried them, but carefully folded and hung them, even neatly balling the socks! Kudos to both Sofia and her crew! This episode brought out a real strength in this operation: client services. And this was just one example of Sofia's terrific responsiveness and extra services.
It was a very pleasant stay. A couple of snafu's regarding parking. Make sure that you get the parking pass before arrival. The host did not send it to us in advance and did not respond to quite a few inquiries about it on the day of check-in - but was kind enough to drive it out to us upon arrival. It would also have been nice to be forewarned about the parking in front of the house. On Wednesdays - you can't park there in the morning for street cleaning rule purposes. That cost us a ticket. You'll have to do some sort of park swapping thing as some of the nearby streets have Thursday cleaning. The security deposit is pretty steep for the cost of the place. All the wifi stuff on the description was incorrect. Overall, very pleased with the stay but could use some tightening up as a rental experience.
I was in town for 2 nights on business, and I was glad to have found this apartment. Easy communication with the host, comfy, small dining table that was perfect for a work space, and an equipped kitchen. The location was perfect, even cold, it was walkable to great restaurants. Much better than staying in a hotel, and would be great for a couple or person in town on business.
The streets are lined on both sides with trees and wide sidewalks. This is a place for walkers. The apartment was clean and stocked with all the essentials plus. The rooms are on the small side but space is used well with all comfortable furniture. The apartment is half story down and the front windows provide an interesting perspective on passers by. Seated at this front table, your eye level with the pooches and here we enjoyed watching people go about their day. With cheese on the table and wine in our hands we made up stories about who they were. Lovers walking their first dog, couples having an affair, people on the go. We waved to the occasional passerby who happened to see us. The host allowed us to purchase a parking pass for $10 a day (best deal in DC) that can be used all over DC if you choose to drive. The capitol, spy museum, natural history, library of congress, Supreme Court, stores to shop in. All less than an hour stroll through an interesting mix of neighborhoods and city. There were a wide variety of restaurants that served good moderately or pricey food. The population all quite pleasant and friendly. It was a light rain or mist most of our five days in DC but still did everything and had a great time! We talk about going back for a month.
