The Avery Hotel is situated on the majestic Ebbetts Pass Scenic Byway (Highway 4) east of the quaint, historic gold-rush town of Murphys. With over 22 tasting rooms, Murphys is a destination for wine enthusiasts and shoppers. The Avery Hotel is perfect for large group vacations, ski groups and families. Bear Valley Ski Resort is located just 28 miles up the road. Calaveras Big Trees State Park is only 10 minutes away. There are plenty of restaurants including Snowshoe Restaurant and Brewery. It's the Perfect Holiday Getaway.
Two pianos grace the bar and dining room inside, and a large woodsy stage in the backyard make this a wonderful spot for musical gatherings. It would be a great place to have a music camp or retreat. Email for special quotes for events or weddings.
There is a pool table in the ample living area of the hotel. The large kitchen is fully equipped to handle large gatherings. A shady side garden with year-round green grass offers a nice communal space. The pavilion seats100 for receptions and large group gatherings.
PLEASE NOTE: No single rooms are for rent. Two night minimum for entire hotel.
The property was such a wonderful place for our family gathering and celebration. The kitchen was amazing and the rooms were lovely.
We had a blast on this property for our Fantasy Football draft. Enjoyed the bar and the yard and the kitchen and found the rooms to be comfortable. Great spot!
This is my second time at Avery Hotel, and my friends and I again had an amazing time! It is such a great spot with so many fun activities on site and nearby - I recommend going to the lake for a day if it's warm out! Terry is really responsive and flexible. 10/10 would recommend!
Family reunion for 19 people, all stayed on the property. A great venue that's close to Big Trees, Moaning Caverns Columbia and more. Terri the owner was awesome.
The Avery Hotel was a great place for our extended family to congregate and visit. We enjoyed using the kitchen, the many inside spaces, as well as the wonderful backyard. The host was easy to deal with and accommodating!
This is a perfect spot for a friends / family reunion. We took advantage of the caterers Terry recommended, for a few meals, and we also ate at good restaurants nearby for other meals. Murphys, a small town nearby, is very nice and has a beautiful playground by the river.
We were a group of 22 friends. Ten kids and 12 adults. Most of the kids aged 7-9 loved bunking together in the big bunk room. A few of the younger ones wanted to be near moms and the second bunk room had twin mattresses that were easily relocated to a double bed room keeping everyone happy. Avery Hotel is an amazingly eccentric old hotel with everything you need for a fun group party. Inside bar was such a fun spot for the adults and outdoor space is huge and amazing for everyone. The house does have a lot of old black and white photographs which Terry have a nice back story. Some of the kids were a little creeped out at first but got over it by the second day and I think it added to the charm of the hotel. Bar room is heated by a fire burning stove so you will smell like a campfire at the end of your stay. There is a middle school up the road with an amazing track and tons of basketball courts. Gate was unlocked so we enjoyed some exercise but not sure if it’s always open or not. There was also a trailer park across the street which led to some late night screaming fights on 1 night but also made for neighbors that won’t call and complain if you’re too loud so I guess you take the good with the bad haha. We all had an amazing time and really want to go back in the warmer months to enjoy the gorgeous lighted yard space even more. Thank you for a fun weekend, Terry!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Avery Hotel. The location is fantastic and the property is both spacious and unique. Our whole party had an amazing time, we can't wait to book again.
I booked this place to celebrate a big birthday for my husband with friends. I loved how many different areas there were to spend group time inside and outside. Whether celebrating small or a big event, you have access to everything on the property--outside has a pavilion, bar with piano and guitar and sitting areas, a pool table, and TV area, and more. Kitchen was fun with an industrial washer that made cleaning a group's worth of dishes fast easy and fun haha. There was a power outage our first morning--area wide--so we were super happy to be able to cook our bacon with a wood fire on the outdoor grill. The kitchen side of the house had less reliable hot water and upstairs water pressure (just affecting one room) and I suspect this had something to do with the dishwasher. But the other side of the house with the bulk of the rooms and bathrooms was more than adequate. And if you're a person who is bothered by the kind of things that come with a building this old, recalibrate your expectations before your stay. I was very pleased by all the little extras--tissue boxes throughout the house, dishsoap and sponge in the kitchen and bar (which I've found lacking at other rentals so often that I travel with dishsoap and sponge now), extra paper towel rolls, plastic seal baggies, and abundant culinary supplies. The group is talking about making this venue an annual trip destination, very happy with our stay!
This was a great spot for a bunch of friends to get together for long weekend and big meals.
Our family was looking for the perfect place for 19 adults/1 great-grandchild to celebrate our fathers 80th birthday and we found it! We LOVED the features of commercial kitchen, multiple bedrooms and the awesome old time bar! We even planned an old western themed dress up night to take pics around the bar our last last night. Day time entertainment included wine tasting, shopping in Murphys nearby and a car show in Arnold. Would definitely recommend as a fun, unique group get-away location for sure!!
My friends and I had an amazing time at the Avery Hotel and took advantage of all that it had to offer (the bar, the lawn for lawn games, BBQ, etc.)! It's also a short drive to White Pines Lake which was nice to cool down in. Terry was an incredible host and let us check out the property a few months beforehand, and was flexible in addressing all of our needs. We will be back!
Our stay at the Avery Hotel was incredible. The house was able to handle our 30 guests with ease. We cooked and baked in the industrial kitchen, had late nights playing pool and poker, made cocktails behind the bar (indoors and outdoors), and were able to easily drive to some local trails. Walking to trails was possible but tiring. The house has so much character, we were still discovering new rooms and artifacts on the last day. Terry was incredibly helpful, answered all our questions, made accommodations for some guests, and helped us have night gatherings with an outdoor heater. Terry would pop by sometimes, which was not a problem for us, but if you are looking for complete privacy, I recommend mentioning it.The experience was fantastic, no complaints.
