Nelsonville, Ohio
Whether it's the rich early-American history, or the scenic beauty of the Appalachian foothills, The Homestead is the best place to start your adventure into the Hocking Hills!
While the 23 acre farm itself dates back to the late Civil War Era, The Homestead is an updated farmhouse, at the front of the property, that still holds quirky and charming reminders of its approximately 140 years on the farm. The Homestead also sits alongside the John Hunt Morgan Heritage Trail, the route Confederate Brigadier General Morgan took during his raid on Southern OH.
With it's rolling pastures, petite orchard and grapevines, and the staple white picket fence, it's too easy to get lost in a daydream on the screened-in back porch.
The fenced in area is a great place for your family pet to run, and the shared trails and fishing pond are a great place to kill time. In the evenings, you can unwind by the fire ring out back, or relax in the hot tub on the patio.
The Homestead is also centrally located to everything the Hocking Hills region has to offer!

Very nice
We had a great time!
Our family of 8 had a great time here. The property was huge, secluded, and had a lot of character. There were plenty of comfortable beds, good WIFI, and the hot tub was an added bonus. Located about 20-30 minutes from all the Hocking Hills trails we hiked. We ordered pizza from Little Italy, ate at Los Mariachis and Jimbo’s...all within about 15-20 minutes drive. The area is extremely secluded (compared to what we are used to anyway), and this is just what we wanted. Shannon was communicative, but left us to ourselves. We didn’t have any issues during our stay, and we highly recommend it!
This old farmhouse is quite quirky in a good way. Lots of room with historical charm. Property manager was very quick to fix the hot tub without our asking as they noticed it was not in working order when we arrived. Very helpful and friendly! The home has the potential to host a good amount of guests, but one of the two bathrooms is a tad odd and not super accommodating for our friend who is 6'4. The mattresses we all found to be rather uncomfortable and my husband and I decided to sleep out on the sectional instead. ? This property could have definitely been cleaner. Lots of cobwebs and dust in the corners, at the ceiling, and all the blinds could use a bath. Maybe we were the first to rent for the season? Don't know. Definitely could use a deep cleaning. Oddly, there is carpet in both bathrooms. That was rather odd and owners should maybe consider putting in a laminate or vinyl plank instead. It would be more practical for coming out of a shower and obviously much more practical around a toilet. This was my biggest dislike, it gave me the willies, if I'm being honest. Overall - a decent stay..but simple improvements could make it so much nicer.
Rental property was accommodating for my entire family. Very cute! Hiking trails near property good for dogs. Fire pit and hot tub good for use. Everything was clean and nice. Had a good stay!
This place really is not your nature or hocking hills hang out. It’s on a somewhat busy road and cars will keep you up through the night. When it comes to the land it’s rather small, not really hiking land more of just a short walk in the woods. We brought a bunch of meat to grill but turns out there was no propane on the grill and it was so rusted and gross it was unusable. The hot tub was crap, would not heat up. This place may be worth the cheap price, but in the end...you pay for what you get.
We absolutely loved our stay on the farm. Our older teenagers walked the trails some but it was muddy due to recent rain. They still enjoyed it though...lol. We all loved the hot tub. Loved being able to bring our fur babies. We enjoyed playing games on the large dining room table. We had a little bit of service on our Verizon phones as well which can be unusual for the rural area here. The kitchen was easy to prepare food and the Pizza Stop in nelsonville delivered pizza it was piping hot and delicious. All in all we enjoyed our stay and would stay here again!
Beautiful property and a great stay. Only issue was the dishwasher malfunctioning but we let the owner know and they were very responsive!
Amazing
Truly a great property, old style farmhouse charm. Owners communication was superb. Everything needed for a group of artists, we had a great time.
We had a great stay at the homestead! It was really nice having the trails out back to stretch our legs after driving in. We also enjoyed a campfire the 2nd night there. It was helpful that Nick had the current COVID trail information for Old Man's Cave posted too, as that was one of the areas we explored. We will be back again and maybe with friends as the house has plenty of room!
