Among all the incredible reunions we've experienced, this one undoubtedly takes the crown. The Fishing Cottage served as the perfect backdrop for our gathering, bringing us together after journeys from as far as London and Japan, as well as those who drove up locally. The genuine warmth of your hospitality truly made the difference, and it seemed like everyone had an absolute blast. Anticipation is already building for our next reunion – we're eagerly looking forward to it!
Awesome place. Older house, but very spacious and cool All beds were very comfortable. One minor complaint is the lack of a closet in the king room downstairs. The beach at Cape Charles was wonderful, not crowded and we loved swimming in the bay. Close to Virginia Beach, but the bridge toll was ridiculous I can't say enough good about this place.
I will start by saying that cleanliness of accommodations is always very important to me. I will also say I read all the previous reviews & really considered the ones that said those who complained of insects/flies & lack of cleanliness didn't fully consider the country location & age of the home. I've lived in the country & I've lived in very old homes & thought I was adequately prepared. The Excellent: Location to all that Kiptopeke & CC offer Quiet setting with beautiful cornfields Size of home & rooms easily accommodated 8 adults, 1 toddler, & 1 senior dog Water pressure! The Good: Bedding was clean Ample furniture for sleeping, lounging, & eating Laundry room with really good washer/dryer Bathroom supplies The Needs Improvement: While the bedrooms/bedding were clean/tidy & the bathrooms were very dated but mostly clean, the kitchen was dirty. Wear & tear was expected, but the drips of goo, stains, the dirty shelving with dead gnats & insects and film of dust stuck to lightly greasy surfaces were not. We entered to find more than a dozen slow flies already in the home. During our stay, more beetles, moths, gnats, & ants coming out of the light switch when turned on joined us. We were careful when opening the door, but they seemed to originate from inside the home, as if we disturbed them. Spotty wi-fi. VERY dirty windows I cleaned several areas upon arrival, but it was too much to address completely. If it were cleaner, I'd stay again.
We had awesome time , the house was a great fit for all of us, it’s an old farmhouse but has been updated , still needs so more in the kitchen area but it was very workable, the area is super beautiful, close to everything, we will be back again, thank you so much for sharing your home ! The Poso
Great place and wonderful stay!
Nice place and great location for boat ramps.
Stayed here for a family vacation. Was a great place to stay. Very quiet and peaceful.
Beautiful home with many rooms. Well kept and extremely clean
If you're looking for some R and R look no further. Wonderful home - plenty of room for gatherings, well appointed with all household items, convenient to many restaurants and shops in the quaint town of Cape Charles..fire pit in the backyard was a nice added bonus! We'll be back!
Great location and house. Some cleanliness issues and old appliances but it was so beautiful and close to the beach I can't complain!
Pro: All amenities, lot of bedrooms. Con: needs deep cleaning, only 2 bathrooms, toll to and from First Landing state park $14.00-18.00 one way
We stumbled upon this listing and totally took a gamble coming to Cape Charles for our family had never been to the area. If you like peace & quiet, and open spaces, this sweet farmhouse is for you. The home has plenty of room. Kids settled into their rooms. The pup enjoyed roaming the yard. The views were gorgeous. I read reviews that the house was dirty. Not so much dirty as it is a seasoned, older home. The location was pretty great because it was close the historic shops & restaurants, and close to beaches. Our favorite beach was the Kiptopeke State Park. You pay $7 to park. The beach is dog friendly on one side of the 2-part beach. We visited over 4th of July and totally prepared for obnoxious, over crowded beaches. But we were pleasantly surprised. We came a little later in the afternoon, around 3pm and basically had the place to ourselves. All the restaurants were good. The prices were hard to come to terms with ($20 burgers). Foodlion is down the street from the house. We grilled steaks a couple of the nights. It was really good. My whole family, including the dog had a great experience here.
It was a fun experience. The house was cute and isolated .
This rental is an older home with quaint, country charm. It is in an excellent location to access the state park as well as historic Cape Charles. The bedrooms are as described, with two being generously sized. The king bedroom downstairs lacks a closet and anywhere to put your clothes. The kitchen is stocked with a miss match of items. There are plenty of plates and glassware; silverware could have been better with numbers for a house that holds a large group. There are only two full baths so take that into consideration when booking a larger number. The host was generous with towels, paper products, soaps, and shampoo. There is a nice screened porch to sit and catch a breeze. The back yard has a small fire pit and proved to be a nice place to sit and socialize. There was a problem with the septic system (downstairs toilet not flushing well and kitchen sink not draining) but a call to the hostess resolved that issue.
