2020 marks the 100-year-old birthday of this charming farmhouse, located on a working horse farm within the town of Hillsville. It has been meticulously redecorated in 2015-16, with an elegantly simple flavor, displaying original hardwood floors, soften with area oriental style rugs. Central heat provides indoor comfort and usually, a breeze across the front porch. The house sleeps 8 and there is table seating for 21, in case family stops by. The peace and quiet will make you feel like you are a million miles from civilization when the town is just around the corner. Food Lion is less than one mile. Ask about the farm experience and the horse whispering experience.

Located in the Blue Ridge Mountains, there are breathtaking fall leaf colors and splendid mountain views. The New River supports fishing, kayaking, and canoeing, while the New River Trail is 51 miles of walking, bicycling, or horseback riding. Nearby is the Blue Ridge Parkway, which you can visit Chateau Morrisette, Blue Ridge Music Center or Mabry Mill which is the most photographed mill in the nation.

Hillsville hosts the largest single-town flea market east of the Mississippi. The Flea Market and Gun Show is held annually on Labor Day Weekend. The Beaver Dam Nature Trail for hiding is located 5 minutes from the farmhouse.

For history buffs, Hillsville is the location of the 1912 Courthouse Tragedy involving the Allen family. The town was gaining headline news across the country when the sinking of the Titanic took the nation's attention. You can see the historic courthouse with original bullet holes in the steps, the renovated unique Allen home, and the Felts Mansion, Cliffview, built by the one owner of the Felts-Baldwin Detective Agency which was instrumental in bringing the shooters to justice. My farmhouse has some good reads on the original event. The Carroll County Historical Society located in the old courthouse has artifacts along with Harmon's Museum in Woodlawn.

The first weekend in August hosts the famous Galax Fiddlers Convention. The historic Rex Theatre in Galax offers music shows every weekend and occasional entertaining plays. Down the street are the Chestnut Creek Arts Center and antiquing opportunities downtown Galax, 13 miles away.

Mt. Airy, home of Andy Griffith, is 28 miles South. It has captured the feel of Mayberry, his TV home in the Andy Griffith Show, and hosts the annual Mayberry Days in September. Shop, have a Barney Burger, maybe meet Thelma Lou, and tour the town in Barney's squad car.

Beaver Dam Creek Trail is nearby for hiking. Golfing is hosted by Blue Ridge Country Club, Galax Municipal Golf Course, and Ole Mill Golf Course in Laurel Fork.

Guest access
Guests will have access to the entire house with the exception of the owner's closet.

PETS. Dogs are allowed and we request that they remain off the beds and furniture. Bring a bed(s) or crate(s) and be prepared to crate your pooch(es) if you leave them alone in the house. Thank you!

Had the feeling of being at home. Although the house was close to town, you felt you were by yourself with not a lot of noises and interruptions.

Love the character of the old farm house. Loved seeing the history of the town, property and the owners passion for horses. The horses on the property were fun.

Lovely home that memorializes various eras of Hillsville local history. The historic home retains it's original charm with tasteful modern additions. Great home for a large group as the second floor offers three rooms with child like themes.

This was such a great place for our family. We could look out the window and see horses. We loved it. It was just after Christmas and we were visiting my sister and her family so we wanted a place where we could all sit down and have a meal. And this place is perfect and so lovely. Just as described, clean, easy to access and the host was amazing, even checked in with us after we arrived to ask if there was anything else we needed. We have family in this area, we will stay here again!

We had a great time meeting up with family in a somewhat centralized location. Made it much easier than making the big trip to either home location. We are fans of the Andy Griffith show so this was a cool location with its proximity to Mt Airy, NC. If your looking for a farm house type stay This could be it. Here’s what we really liked: multiple locations to sit, relax, work a puzzle, read, watch tv, etc. unique qualities like 100 year old uneven floors, shiplap upstairs, good size rooms, nice kitchen for our needs, good WiFi, good heating, quiet country setting with A view of horses out the window. Cons- beds upstairs are more suited to kids. The one in the yellow room wasn’t super comfy and my wife and I didn’t get the best sleep. All in all a great stay and Lisa was very quick to respond to us. It was cool seeing her multiple trophies for her championship horse.

Firstly the house is so much larger on the inside than it appears. An historic charming house. Very clean, perfect for my family. And the beautiful horses were such a treat for my daughter and wife. Such a bucolic setting. We will be back.

Thanks for sharing your house with us. It is so convenient to everything and still feels so rural. We are hoping to stay again for next years fishing trip.

Originally we were going to have my wife and I plus our three teenaged kids and my parents stay while we celebrated a son’s graduation from Virginia Tech, but ended up with only one teen kid coming. Space and amenities were fantastic for our extended family and we enjoyed the grounds with the horses as well. Since our trip was focused around Blacksburg, an hour drive away, we didn’t spend a lot of time in Hillsville. The Farmhouse is a perfect place to stay and explore the local area as well. Communication with the Host was smooth and she made sure we had everything we needed, responding to our request to add one night very quickly.

This farmhouse was a great place for our family to stay and relax while visiting other local family over the holidays. We had a party of 6 and there was plenty of space to both do things together, and have our own space at times. Feeding the horses was a highlight!
