McKinney, Texas
Staying at The Farmhouse Mckinney feels like a retreat for adults and an outdoor dream for kids! The circa 1915 Farmhouse is packed with character and sits on a beautiful treed acre of land! A perfect house for family gatherings: close to nearby restaurants & shopping with the feel of being in the country!
The home has a huge 1200 sq ft living space, which is perfect for a family gathering! Gather around the huge farmhouse table or by the wood burning fireplace. The living room is open to the fully stocked kitchen to keep everyone together.
Spending time outside at The Farmhouse is always a favorite of our guests. It is a space designed to create and foster community. There is a wrap around screened in porch that has another farmhouse table, lounge seating area, and a porch swing. Out back is a 1500 sq ft fenced in pea gravel patio with a 3rd farmhouse table to gather. As you can see, there is no shortage of places to share a meal! While on the patio, enjoy our string lighting and yard games we have available just for you…to help you create memories and moments of connection. (included corn hole, tether ball, horseshoes, giant Jenga, bocce ball and more!). Beyond the fenced in patio is an acre of land to enjoy. We have 2 playlets (for kids and toddlers), a tire swing, basketball goal, a ninja line, and a field to play games.
Back inside, downstairs also includes an original ship lap walled office, a floor to ceiling library, a separate dining room (if you are counting, this is the 4th dining table!), and a half bath. Up the original hardwood stairs you will find 4 bedrooms and a full bath. The room outside of the bedrooms has a TV and sitting area as another place to gather.
We are nestled between a county park across the street, a tree farm to the east and a pasture with historic 100 year old red barn to the west. We live in this house the majority of the year, so it will be well stocked with games, puzzles, toys, and almost anything you could need for the kids. The house would be perfect for a large family, a family reunion, a small celebration (we would need to approve this) or just a fun family getaway. We are away from neighborhoods, but only 15 minutes from charming downtown Mckinney with great restaurants and boutique shops. We are also near many wedding venues and would make a wonderful home to gather in before and/or after the event. We may allow a small event on site (for an additional fee), but the details would need to be approved in advance.
This property offers a rare opportunity for life outside the hustle and bustle of a city. The original 1915 farmhouse is comfortable and authentic from the charm of it’s creaky floors to the masterful woodworking of a bygone era and the new great room addition was spacious, sunlit and perfect for gathering and enjoying games and conversation. Outside there were many options for play and exploration, plus the absolute perfect outdoor setting for our family’s Thanksgiving feast. We left rested and SO thankful!!
Great!
My family wanted to stay close to Dallas but be able to get a break from our house during COVID. The McKinney Farm was just what the doctor ordered. It offered a peak into life from days gone by but had all the amenities of modern day life. There was PLENTY of things for the 4 young kiddos (4, 6, 6, & 8) as well as adults and senior adults. The master bedroom on the first floor has a lovely sitting room that my parents enjoyed most morning while watching the kids play in the back yard. The upstairs kids rooms not only had two cool custom beds that the kids drew straws for, but also had toys. We never touched the toys we brought since there were some many already in the house. The back yard boasts a playhouse, space to play games, basketball, tether ball, and so much more. The adult kids played cards at the circular table in the main living room at night after putting little people to bed without worrying about the sound carrying through the kitchen and then upstairs. Just a lovely place all around.
The farmhouse was perfect for our family Christmas gathering! Ryan and Laura had the house beautifully decorated for Christmas; including a live Christmas tree and plenty of wood for the fireplaces. Loved the rustic charm and history of this beautiful setting. The living area is absolutely gorgeous and was plenty of room when we hosted Christmas dinner and a reception the following day for our granddaughter ‘s baptism. We loved the outdoor space, and if the weather had been warmer we would have spent more time outdoors and on the welcoming wrap around porch. (Maybe next time!) We felt very comfortable and very much at home at the farmhouse. We were sad to see our time end!
Sorry I have not had a chance to get with the property owner. I had rented the home for some out of town families for my sons wedding and while the downstairs living areas were awesome for gatherings, the bedrooms did not work at all. All beds were at best a full size and one was in between a full and twin. The built in bunk beds were really neat but again not even twin size so a teen could not fit into them. They slept on the downstairs couches. Not sure if it had not been used for a while but there was dust and spiders throughout and the little kids were afraid to use enclosed bunkbeds because they could not see what was in them. The house is beautiful and old. The AC was completely off so it was well over 90 degrees when we entered. It took over 8 hours to even be bearable to be inside. Would recommend turning on the AC before renters arrive. Great location but just didn't work for what we needed. Again I have not had time to discuss with owner but they were easy to deal with so I assume they will make corrections.
