Warrenton, Virginia
This stately, 3 bedroom and 3 baths, home rests on the lush 82 acre Whiffletree Farm. The farm and home provide a serene setting rich in history, agriculture, and natural beauty. Guests can enjoy the sense of being far from the busyness of city/suburban life, yet only 2 miles away from Old Town Warrenton, Virginia. Whiffletree Farm also allows guests the opportunity to delve into agro-tourism: gain exposure to sustainable farming, study resources (videos, books, articles) provided in home library, and purchase poultry, milk, eggs etc. from the farm store run by the farmers themselves, Jesse and Liz Straight.
History: For at least 80 years of the 20th century Whiffletree Farm was dedicated to horses and specifically, fox hunting. The Warrenton Hunt still rides the property and the hunting hounds (50-60) are kenneled next door. Celebrities like John and Jacquelin Kennedy and the Duke and Duchess of Windsor attended cocktail parties at Whiffletree as part of the social scene surrounding the 'Hunt.'
Agriculture: The farmers, Jesse and Liz Straight, raise pastured broiler chickens (and turkeys), free-foraging pork, grass-finished beef and pastured laying hens. Their farming method of using intensive rotation grazing creates a happy and healthy environment for the animals, improves the fertility of the land and provides more nutritious food for customers . Their cattle are 100% grass fed and their turkeys, broiler chickens, pigs, and laying hens are raised on fresh pasture, non-GMO feed, no antibiotics, no chemicals on the ground, and no toxic chemical washes when they are processed. All this work, precision and care, not only help keep animals, the earth and people healthier it also results in distinctively rich tasting food.
Natural beauty: There are lovely walks about the farm, near the stream or down by Great Run and bike rides along the lane. And just a stone’s throw away guests will find a variety of the many great things Virginia’s rolling hills and vibrant culture has to offer: the historic town of Warrenton (2 miles), the storied battlefields of Culpeper and Manansas (15 miles), Virginia’s great wine trails- vinards/wineries- (8 miles), the Blue Ridge Mountains and Skyline Drive (24 miles), the Town of Little Washington with it's famous Inn (17 miles), the Ashby Inn in Paris, Va.(20miles) and many more sites.
And lastly, in case hikes, bike rides and walks don’t satisfy your exercise needs, Warrenton has a large aquatic center with a competition pool, hot tub, water park with slides and workout facilities. Golf courses, a tennis club and a yoga studio are also just within a 10 minute drive. But don't overbook yourselves. The house, the farm and the grounds are special.
Please also note the house's large sunroom and outdoor yard space. We consider events for under 40 people on a case by case basis for an additional fee of $500.

This was our sixth trip to the farm with our kids. It continues to be a little slice of heaven for our family. We had the most peaceful and memorable Thanksgiving at the farm. Everything was just as we left it. We look forward to returning next year.
This was a great property and amazing farm house
We had a few issues, and immedialtey called the property manager to address. He was punctual in getting back with us and was very focused on addressing our complaint and resolving it
We stayed at The Manor House while attending wedding activities at nearby Wollam Gardens. The old homestead provided a relaxing escape from the excitement of the wedding event. The interior of the house is comfortably furnished and features a large well-appointed kitchen. The bedrooms are spacious. The grounds and the home's exterior could use some attention. The working regenerative farm setting, including the well-stocked farm store, adds to the unique experience of staying in this Fauquier County home.
This house is so beautiful! We hosted a small birthday party here and it was absolutely perfect. They were so accommodating and even left us some delicious farm fresh goodies to enjoy!!
This was our fourth year visiting the farm. It truly is a slice of heaven. Our kids had a blast exploring the property and visiting the chickens, pigs, and cows. Jesse and Liz were wonderful hosts (as always). The house was clean and spacious and has everything you could need. We dined out this year and loved Denim & Pearls (which serves Jesse’s chicken) and Red Truck Bakery,
We had a great time at Whiffletree! The house is beautiful and staying on a working farm is so unique. The house is well-equipped with everything you need and the hosts left us farm-fresh goodies and some staples- so thoughtful. The location is beautiful and serene but a very short drive from Warrenton for restaurants and shopping. We loved our stay!
The property is so unique and charming and very well appointed. It was the perfect “headquarters” for the family of the bride . It was absolutely wonderful and Chase was fantastic to us. We will stay again if the opportunity presents itself.
This was a reuinion of 3 college buds and wives to tour wine country. The location was PERFECT. The farm store and the farm manager were entertaining. The home was perfectly appointed but could use a good cleaning!! Bathrooms were immaculate, bedrooms were great- putside and living areas needed some TLC.
This was our 2nd time at Whiffletree and we had another delightful stay. The setting was gorgeous, the house charming, and the property manager, Chase, was attentive to our needs. The owner, Jesse, even gave us some parting gifts from the farm the morning we left. All in all, a terrific place. We'll be back.
Close to Great Marsh Estate and Airlie!
Our whole family really loved this beautiful farm home. It had a wonderful blend of the charm of the old and the convenience of the new. The bathrooms and kitchen were roomy, clean and updated. The bedrooms were spacious and beautifully furnished. Lots of space to visit, play games and share a meal with our big family. We also enjoyed the hot tub in the evenings. A wonderful experience overall!
Plenty of room for 6 adults, loved the privacy would stay here again
Everything was quick and easy. The location was very nice and quiet with plenty of space. I would stay here again.
We took a weekend getaway from DC with another family and the house easily accommodated 4 adults and 2 kids. The house was clean and as pictured, and very comfortable. We enjoyed making meals in the kitchen, using the grill, an evening by the firepit, and the hot tub. We explored Warrenton and Marshall nearby - including the Saturday farmer's market in Warrenton, Red Truck bakery in Marshall, and nearby breweries & wineries. Thanks for a great stay! Those of us with Verizon cell service still had coverage at the house, but AT&T subscribers did not.
This was our third visit to the farm with our kids. Once again, we didn't want to leave. What a special place. We will be back!
Beautiful property and house. Charming country views. Comfortable, large rooms with modern kitchen and bathrooms. My family enjoyed the lovely accommodations and the delicious gifts (fresh eggs, sausage, bread and coffee). We will definitely stay here again. Wonderful weekend!
Three high school friends and our kids (4-10) had a wonderful long weekend at the manor house - and aww already planning a return trip. The house is even more beautiful and spacious than pictured and the grounds just breathtaking. We loved wandering to the farm store on Saturday and they even had baby chicks for the kids to hold! Historic Warrenton is a quick drive away for dinner or window shopping, and shopping centers under 10 mins for essentials… but really you never need leave the property. Heavenly!
This was a wonderful retreat - the home and the views are better than the pictures in my opinion. It is in a gorgeous part of Warrenton and very comfortably furnished...and bonus, it is the best hide and seek (secret doors) house you will ever find.
Loved our stay at Whiffletree Manor! It’s truly beautiful and I felt like I was stepping back in time with all the modern comforts as well!
