Background, General Information and Weather in Franklin, Tennessee –
Franklin is in Williamson County, Tennessee and is also the county seat. If you were to look on a map you would see that Franklin is located roughly 21 miles South of Nashville. Franklin is also one of the principal cities of the Nashville Metro area and Middle Tennessee. At the time of the 2010 census the population here was 62,487. In 2016 there was a non-census related poll taken that showed that the population here had grown to approximately 75,000. Based on that number, Franklin is estimated to be the seventh largest city in Tennessee. According to the United States Census Bureau, Franklin is a total of 30.1 square miles in size with only 0.1 square miles of that being water. When it comes to the weather here in Franklin it it categorized as “Humid Subtropical.” This means that the summer months will be hot and muggy feeling and the winter months will be cold and wet. Franklin is also partly cloudy throughout the year. The temperature here can range from 16 degrees during the winter all the way up to 96 degrees during the summer. The hot season here lasts for just under four months. From the end of May until almost the end of September the daily average high is just about 80 degrees. The low for this time is only a few degrees lower coming in at a very comfortable 71 degrees. The hottest month here is July when the average daily high is just about 90 degrees. The cold season on the other hand lasts for exactly three months. From the end of November until the end of February the daily average high is just about 56 degrees. The low for this time is just under the freezing mark clocking in at 31 degrees. The coldest time of the year here is in the month of January when temperatures frequently drop down into the high 20’s. Even though it gets pretty cold here, there is not a lot of snow fall here. On average you can expect to see less than three inches per year. Despite the lack of snow fall here, Franklin does receive a decent amount of rain per year. On average there is about 52 inches of rain per year which is only slightly higher than the national average of 39 inches.
Major Employers in Franklin –
Franklin’s economy is mainly supported by the health care industry. Companies like HealthSpring, Clarcor, Community Health Systems, Healthways and Home Instead Senior Care are businesses in the healthcare sector that help support the local economy. According to a 2017 financial report, these businesses had the largest number of employees in the Franklin area. The largest employer here is “Community Health Systems” with 3,255 employees. “Nissan North America” comes in second with 1,850 employees. “Williamson Medical Center” comes in third with 1,850 employees. “Optum,” which is part of the UnitedHealth Group, has just over 1,600 employees. “Mars Pet Care” has 1,000 employees. “Ford Motor Credit,” “Verizon Wireless,” “Lee Company,” “Vanderbilt University Medical Center” and “Evicore Healthcare” all have less than 1,000 employees each.
Education in Franklin –
Franklin is served by two school districts. The Franklin Special School District is for students in Kindergarten through eighth grade. Once students finish eighth grade they will attend the Williamson County School System for high school. The Franklin School District has five elementary schools as well as three middles schools and serves close to 4,000 students per year. The Williamson County School district is quite large with 47 schools in total. Each year more than 1,000 new students enroll. This school district recently opened three new schools to help with the growing population. There are ten high schools within this district but if you live in Franklin, your child will be designated to either Centennial or Franklin High.
Pinkerton Park –
If you live in Franklin and are looking for some outdoor recreation you can head over to Pinkerton Park. This 34 acre municipal park is located near downtown Franklin. This park has a mile long paved track that has various forms of exercise equipment at certain points on the trail. There are also picnic tables and grills as well as two playgrounds. One of the coolest things about this park in 2018 Pinkerton Park debuted something called “Storybook Trail.” This trail has an open air book along the walking trail about forest animals for the parents to read to their children as they walk.
