Buckeye is in Maricopa County, Arizona is part of the Phoenix Metro Area. Buckeye has a population of just under 70,000. This portion of Arizona is one of the fastest growing cities in the United States. Buckeye can be found approximately 30 miles West of Downtown Phoenix and according to the United States Census Bureau this city is a total of 145.8 square miles. The climate here in Buckeye is what is known as a hot desert climate. The summers here tend to be extremely hot and the winters tend to be cool and very mild. The hottest part of the year is from the very end of May until mid September when the daily average high is a staggering 98 degrees. During this time the average low is just under 80 degrees. Summers here tend to get hot due to the hot desert climate and abundant sunshine. The cooler time of the year here happens between the end of November until the end of February. Arizona winters are very mild and comfortable which is great since the summers tend to be extremely hot. Since this is a desert community it does not tend to rain a lot here.

Parks and Recreation in Buckeye
The Buckeye Hills Regional Park is a more than 4,400-acre natural desert that is Southwest of Phoenix. When you are here you can enjoy the beautiful views that the Sonoran Desert has to offer. At this park you can hike, bike and even horseback ride but there are no designated trails for any of these activities so make sure you exercise caution when enjoying this beautiful regional park.

In Buckeye there are five highways as well as a railroad and a few airports. There is Interstate 10 as well as State Route 85. State Route 85 is approximately 128 miles long and is the major highway in the state of Arizona. This highway runs from the United States – Mexico border and ends at Interstate 10 here in Buckeye. If you are looking for air travel in Buckeye there is the Buckeye Municipal Airport. This city owned airport can be found 7 miles Northwest of the central business district of Buckeye. This airport is not served by any commercial airlines and is most often used for General Aviation.

In November of 2017 there were several media reports that claimed that Bill Gates bought almost 25,000 acres of land between Buckeye and Tonopah for an estimated $80 million. The reports claim that Gates plans to build a “smart city” by the name of Belmont. The area the Gates purchased has had several different plans for development since the 90’s but no projects ever materialized for one reason or another. When development gets under way you can expect to see 3,800 acres of office, retail and commercial space. 3,800 acres of industrial space, 3,400 acres of open space that will most likely be later developed into some sort of park as well as 470 acres for various schools. The rest of the land will be used for residential units. Some reports are saying that close to 80,000 homes will be built in this “smart city.” This development will not only boost the local economy, it will also be one of the first “smart cities” in the United States.
