Aroha Island eco retreat is a 12ha sanctuary in the Kerikeri Inlet and is a short 12km drive north east of Kerikeri, in the stunning Bay of Islands. It’s the perfect place to relax and connect with nature. A causeway links the island to the mainland, providing convenient vehicle access. It is a natural haven with a wide diversity of New Zealand plants and birds including the rare North Island Brown Kiwi. When you stay on the island you can self-guide to look for the kiwi in their natural habitat. Our staff will advise you of how to increase your chances of seeing them. During the day you can stroll the private beach, take a bush walk, explore the mangroves and look for birds. Please note because of the presence of Kiwi & the sensitive nature of the island, there is “No Pets, No Smoking and No Fires” on Aroha Island. Motupipi sits on a private peninsula consisting of 20 hectares of native bush with beachfront access. Accommodation consists of a fully self-contained two bedroom cottage which has spectacular views from the deck, which is only 50 metres from the shoreline. The property includes a 1.2 kilometre bush walk which is fabulous for viewing native flora and birdlife. At night, sit on the deck and listen to the morepork and kiwi calling.brThe cottage is a 15 - 20 minute drive to the Kerikeri village to cater for all shopping needs including weekend markets. The seaside town of Paihia is a comfortable 40 minute drive and offers a wide variety of tourist excursions, including chartered trips to Ninety Mile Beach and Cape Reinga, for those wanting to see more of the Far North area.brFor those wanting to simply relax at the beach, this is the perfect place for peace and tranquillity. Boats up to 6 metres can be launched from the beach with a 4WD.brMotupipi sleeps two comfortably in the main room (queen bed) with the optional use of a separate second bedroom, which has two single beds.
