• CASA RICO • revitalised Carpathian farm in a shepherd's village. Pet-friendly

Vale, Judeţul Sibiu, Romania

Casa Rico is our latest jewel, ideal for family holidays and groups. The former farmhouse is located in the hills above the village. The view extends over wooded mountains and down to the plains of Transylvania.brbrThe property consists of a 142-year-old, fully renovated wooden house (2 double rooms, currently available) and a brick house (another 2 double rooms), which we are still working on. Everything will be ready by early June. At that point, you’ll be able to book the entire farm for up to 8 (or even 10) people, and until then, at a special rate.brBetween the two houses is a cozy courtyard, partially covered by grapevines, with a south-facing terrace.brbrThe special atmosphere can be felt in every corner. We have awoken slumbering gems from decades of deep sleep with patience and attention to detail, carefully adding modern living aspects that should not be missing. Now this holiday home is a great choice for families with children who prefer to get a taste of the lifestyle of bygone times on their holiday in Romania rather than splashing around in the chlorinated pool of a 5-star hotel.brbrYou enter the old farmhouse via the external hallway and reach the spacious living room with open kitchen, tiled stove and seating for up to 10 people. The kitchen is fully equipped for self-catering with a fridge-freezer, electric cooker, dishwasher, kettle, espresso/coffee machine, toaster and plenty of crockery, spices, soaps, etc. Two dormer windows provide the living room with light and morning sunshine from above.brThe two bedrooms are furnished with double beds, antique wardrobes, a table and stools. The shower room features a washing machine and is accessible from the inner hallway.brbrA staircase leads from the outer hallway to the rustic attic. Here you can relax with a glass of wine and enjoy the impressive view of the village and the sun-drenched surrounding mountains.brOn the south-facing terrace in the courtyard, you can sit at two acacia tables or lean against an old wine barrel. At the front of the terrace you will find the second kitchenette, which is just as fully equipped as the kitchen in the wooden house, but with a gas stove. It is based on the traditional way of life in Transylvania, where summer life and work mostly take place outdoors. The second bathroom, located right next to the terrace, follows the same idea.brbrFast WiFi is available throughout the farm via fibre optic cable, and each room has an LED television with cable and ASTRA satellite connection. Upon arrival, you will find the beds freshly made and bath, hand and kitchen towels provided.brbrHot water is generated by a solar system, and heating is provided by a gas boiler in cooperation with the tiled stove, which supplies a buffer tank via built-in water pipes and, through this, all radiators in the house. The synchronisation of the heat sources runs automatically. All you have to do is set the desired temperature on a room thermostat and not worry about anything else. Firewood is included.brbrOf course, our optional services also apply here, such as breakfast, traditional menus or farm products from the village. The transfer from Sibiu railway station or airport is included, and on request you can order one of our rental cars, get a cot for your baby and a high chair.brbrAs mentioned, we’re still working on the brick house, so photos will only be available at the end of May. They’ll show two spacious double bedrooms, furnished similarly to those in the old wooden house, a bathroom, and a hallway with an open kitchen. Flowers and grass have been planted or sown in the courtyard, but we enlisted the help of AI to visualize what the vegetation will look like in June.brbrAt a glance:brHoliday farm with 2 homes for 8 peoplebr• Wooden house: 2 bedrooms, 1 bath with washing machinebr Large living room with fully equipped kitchenbr• Brick house: 2 bedrooms, 1 bath, 1 kitchen (from June 2026)br• Terrace in the courtyard with summer kitchen + shower roombr• Minimum stay: 2 - 5 nights (seasonal)br• Extra bed: 12 €/night, pet: 8 €/nightbrbrWe answer your email within 24 hours

• CASA NICU • traditional cottage at the Carpathian foothills in Transylvania

Vale, Sibiu, Siebenbürgen, Romania

• CASA NICU • The Methuselah among our holiday rentals has seen 120 years passing by without being overly impressed. During extensive renovations we left the basic substance untouched, and now the breath of the past still blows through the patient walls. This cottage is a good choice for anybody wishing to add a touch of Transylvanian serenity to their lives. brThe farmhouse is situated in the shepherd's village of Vale, directly at the foot of the Carpathian Mountains. On the one hand, far away from the pulse of time, on the other hand just around the corner from Sibiu, the European Capital of Culture 2007. The village is nestled between the wooded mountains overlooking the Transylvanian plain - in an absolutely peaceful spot with no through traffic. After a short walk you already find yourself in the oldest beech forest on the continent and will experience a unique flora and fauna on your way up to the mountain meadows. Alternatively, benefit from our central location in the heart of Romania and explore sights and trips in all directions.brWe are no trained tourism experts. We live in Vale and have joined together in a small and family-type construction company, with which we worked on several holiday homes. Without hurry, but with attention to detail and respect towards the traditional style of the area, as well as with a view to modern building materials and contemporary housing needs. The result are two sophisticated villas, a shepherd's hut in the mountain meadows and two former farms that received a complete overhaul. Today we can offer you an encounter of different ages and cultures in seven oases of wellbeing, each of them with their own flair, distinctive and special in a place which – we hope – will be sidestepped by the world's hustle for a long time to come.brOur other cottages you can find also on Homeaway or briefly presented below.br____________________________________________________________________brbr••• CASA NICU •••brbrViewed from the outside, this farmhouse is certainly not the only eye-catcher in Transylvania. But whoever crosses the threshold will feel and see its uniqueness. We handled every square meter with attention to detail and respect towards its builders and the traditional style of the area.brbrThe living quarters are located upstairs. A staircase leads out to the hallway, which was added to the house in a typical way. Both the shower room (2 sqm) and the eat-in kitchen (14 sqm) are entered through the hallway. The kitchen is completely equipped for self-catering, with a fridge, gas stove, coffee maker, and espresso machine, as well as a toaster, kettle, spices, washing machine and more. Upon request, we provide you with breakfast, traditional menus or farm products from the village.brThe room (18 sqm) is entered through the kitchen. It features a double bed, TV set (Astra Satellite), Wi-Fi internet access, and plants. Three windows open the room and the view onto the village’s rooftops. An extra bed is available. On arrival, you will find the bed freshly made, and hand and bath towels, shower gel, and soap are also available.brThe entire interior was chosen with care and is of high quality, including kitchen and sanitation facilities, linen, and mattress. To heat the rooms, you use the water-bearing tiled stove that also supplies all the radiators in the premises. Additionally, an electrical infrared panel will start up at no additional costs for you.brThe enclosed courtyard is a leafy feast for the eyes. Here you can relax on a covered terrace, uncork a bottle of wine or unpack the card game. Or walk a few steps to the slope above the village, enjoy the vastness of the valley, and you'll be surprised about the thoughts popping up in your mind out of nowhere.brbr• Transylvania farmhouse, sleeps 2 (up to 3)br• 1 room, 1 eat-in kitchen, 1 shower roombr• Covered patio in the courtyardbr• Minimum stay: 3 - 5 nights (seasonal)br• Extra bed for a 3. person: 12 €/nightbr• Pet: 9 €/nightbr____________________________________________________________________brbr••• We offer more than just accommodation •••brbr• Transfer from the Sibiu airport or railway station is included, and a reliable rental car you can order directly with us.br• On request, our cook provides breakfast or swings the wooden spoon. She conjures traditional menus fresh to the table by appointment - each gram of meat a product of her own livestock farming. Vegetarian No problem.br• Also available are farm products from the village, such as fresh milk, goat or sheep's cheese, forest honey and homemade jam, zakusca, pickled vegetables, wine and schnaps.br• On request: baby cot, high chair, rides in a donkey cart for children, grocery shopping prior to your arrival.br• Tip: Excursion in a horse-drawn cart to the mountains. The tour can take a few hours or an entire day. On the way, you stop at a creek and Nicu (our Carpathian specialist) prepares a shepherd goulash in the kettle on the camp fire.brbr____________________________________________________________________brbr••• The village of Vale •••brbr… is out in the sticks, in the middle of nowhere. On the other hand, the freeway that brings all sights of Transylvania closer to you is only 5 km away. A tarmac road touches on the village, but in large parts, it’s cobblestone roads and dirt trails leading up into the wooded hills. Thus, traditional structures and straightforward hospitality still hold up in Vale. Horses, cows and goats are still part of the village landscape, and the farmers take up their scythes and plant corn, potatoes, and vegetables to provide for the winter.brThere is a children's playground and a small grocery store at the village square. The town of Saliste 2 km away offers more shops, a farmer's market and an ATM cash machine. Whatever you miss here can be found in Sibiu 20 km away at the Cibin Market, in retail stores, or supermarkets such as Real, Carrefour and Lidl.brSome say that the Romanian countryside appears frozen in time. It is unique and mostly untouched and the breath of the past hides in every corner. Maybe you'll sense the charm of the extraordinary, perceiving what life was like before it was leveled by the advance of civilization.brUntil then, take a good look around. Heists and highway robberies are tales from the long-gone years of turmoil following the political change in Romania, and Count Dracula obviously exists only in movies. Most people in these parts are open-minded and very friendly when met with respect.brRead more below for an overview of the sights in the area, plus a pinch of Transylvanian history.br____________________________________________________________________brbr••• Our cottages •••brbr… offer a total of 15 bedrooms endowed with double beds, internet access via WiFi, TV (Astra satellite), and plants.
