Easily accessible by plane, train and road. Together with the great variety of restaurants, cafes, bars, shops and local historic touristic venues. Pizzo offers great value. Visit the Piazza Della Republic where events and social occasions take place during the summer months. Also many festivals throughout the year making it a great place to visit at any time. brPizzo has a classic southern Mediterranean climate, enjoying warm weather from April to October. The summers are hot and dry with clear blue skies and brilliant sunshine. brbrPizzo is in the Province of Vibo Valentia (Calabria, Southern Italy). Situated on an elevated cliff position overlooking the Gulf of Santa Eufemia. It has one of the longest coast lines, 26kl of unspoilt beaches from Pizzo to Lamezia. brbrPizzo has always been dependant on the Sea. It’s stability and prosperity coming from the sea and the land that surrounds Pizzo. brbrThe ‘Piazza della Repubblicca’ is dominated by the 15th Century Aragonese castle which is now a museum and showcase to Joachim Murat, the ex-king of Naples who was shot on 13th Oct 1815 at the castle and was supposedly laid to rest at the Baroque Church of St George; which dates back to 1632 which can also be visited during opening hours.brPizzo is steeped in history and legends and as you walk around it’s old cobbled streets and weave your way through the houses you feel a sense of belonging, watching history. It is a place to explore and discover; full of tradition and culture.br brThis apartment is superbly positioned in Calabria. Where the locals are friendly and helpful. Have a coffee, read a book, watch the world go by ... or take the family off to the beach. Go boating, do the inflatables, banana's, ski, or ever fancied a jet ski, well now is your chance .. and all this is on your door step. brbrIf your the adventurer, you are well positioned to go off exploring. The museum of art, 'Valentianum Museo di Arte Sacra. And one of my favorites, the cathedral, 'Duomo di Santa Maria Maggioge e San Leoluca. Best to do your home work before visiting, as there is not much information in English. Though there is a local information tourist board in every town. Check out the Airport tourist office and ask for any info in English they may have, you will be amazed. brVibo also boasts the largest street market in Calabria held on a Saturday morning. Plus there are a lot of street shops, something to tempt all the family. The Vibo Commercial Center is only a 10 minute drive out of town.brbrAn evening visit to Vibo, you can try some of the best restaurants in Calabria. The back streets are full of them. Vibo Valentia is a good place for hiking and trekking. You can enjoy the sea or the mountain paths, where you can explore and take photos of the unspoilt landscape. The 'Sentiero Frassati della Calabria' is one of the best Italian paths, where you can walk for at least 7 hours uninterrupted. Another stunning place for hiking and trekking is 'Lake Angitola', close to Maierota and is preserved by the WWF. Here you can watch grey herons, great crested grebe, swans and many other species. brTropea is a must to visit. Hundreds of tourists would agree. In September Tropea hosts the 'Tropea Jazz Festival' . Tropea,is a very popular tourist destination. Filled with fascinating little streets, ancient buildings and wrought iron balconies, gift shops, boutique. The Cathedral is well worth a look. Next to it is the exhibition center. You can also visit the little island and it's suggestive 'S.Maria dell'Isola Church' that was an important Benedectine Monastery. The city is also well known all over the world for it's production of the sweet flavoured red Tropea onion. Parghelia also hosts the 'Tropea Onion' festival in September.brbrThere is something for all the family, just come and visit.brbrKeywords:

Relax at PALAZZO PIZZO RESIDENCE in charming fisher village by the sea

Pizzo, Vibo Valentia, Italy

The newly renovated residence by Palazzo Pizzo is located in an over 200 year old, beautifully restored palazzo in the charming historic center of Pizzo in Calabria, Southern Italy, at the 'Costa degli Dei', coast of Gods (only 25 km from Lamezia airport). Enjoy the peaceful location at the sea while at the same time the bustling Piazza della Repubblica of the old town center of Pizzo with its restaurants, bars and ice cream parlors and shops is just a 2 minutes walk away! You can reach the beach at Pizzo Marina in just 10-15 minutes walk. (It takes longer on the way back to walk uphill. Alternatively, you can order an Ape-taxi during summer). More beaches and attractions can be reached by car. brbrFrom a small piazzetta, a separate entrance of the palazzo, with a stone staircase leads 20 steps down to a spectacular vaulted cellar which is located on a rock, about 50 meters above sea level. In the last centuries this space (app 70 sqm) was used as warehouse to store olive oil and soap. The cellar has been restored with special techniques of insulation. The natural stone walls and ceilings are well preserved. The apartment is best suitable for 2 persons. The one bedroom is separated by a paravent from the living area. The bed is antique and a queen size (170cm x 195cm). The newly installed bathroom features a rain shower under a vaulted ceiling with sea view. From the living and dining area with a modern kitchenette you have access to a private garden terrace on top of the cliff. All windows, a small balcony and the terrace are facing the sea. You can enjoy breathtaking 180 degree sea and sunset views over the Bay of Santa Eufemia (or Gulf of Lamezia). On clear days you can spot the active volcano Stromboli, which is part of the Aeolian islands of Sicily in the Tyrrhenian Sea. In spring, you might also see dolphins in the bay.brbrYou can spend days on the private garden terrace of the residence watching fisher boats passing by and beautiful sunsets, or explore Calabrian history and beautiful landscapes in diverse day trips (we will provide you with ideas). brbrPizzo is the ideal stop-over location when travelling between Amalfi and Sicily. From Salerno it is just a 2 1/2 hours train ride away - or a 4 hours drive from Napoli. In about 3 hours you can reach Taormina in Sicily from Pizzo (by road and ferry). In summer ferry boats take you on an Aeolian Island day tour, including volcano Stromboli. Departure is from Vibo Marina (4 km, 5 min drive from Pizzo) or Tropea.brbrPizzo (the old town) is lively all year round, although more quiet from November until Easter/April. The best time to visit Calabria is from May to October. However, April and November can be nice and mild too and swimming in the sea might be possible. It rains most in December and January. You will find snow in the mountains during winter and can ski in some areas. The hottest and busiest month is August. Avoid to travel the days around 15th of August if you can. September and October are good for porcini mushroom collecting.brbrThe little village beach at Pizzo Marina is picturesque with its colourful umbrellas that each visitor brings. This beach, although not service, features two sweet water showers, and the bars and pizzerias are just across the street.brbrOther beach areas of Pizzo, Piedigrotta, Marinella or Marina can also be reached with an Ape-Taxi Service from the main piazza.brbrYou do not need a car to stay at Palazzo Pizzo Residence.brbrWith your booking we will provide our guidebook to Pizzo with lots of recommendations for local restaurants, day trips, museums and important phone numbers.brbrThis apartment is not suitable for small children and people afraid of height. Extra person is 20 Euro/night for bed sheets and towels.
