Our spacious listed holiday villa is three stories and offers plenty of space for your holidays - it invites you to linger.
It is located only 400 meters from the historic market square, overlooking the monastery complex, Kinzigtorturm and Kinzig. The villa is located on the edge of a large park in a large garden. In this garden is a wine covered gazebo. This arbor, even on very warm days, is a pleasant cool oasis. The garden is mostly surrounded by a hedge and almost completely secluded.
Left flows a brook along the property along the front flows 50 meters away the Kinzig past the house.
Directly from the house, one can of:
short walks along the Kinzig along or in the nearby vineyards, to extensive day hikes.

History
This Art Nouveau villa was designed and built adjacent to the old monastery complex on the outskirts of Gengenbach around 1900 for a photographer by Offenburg architect Friedrich Abel.
The wishes of the client can still be seen today in the light-flooded rooms and the beautiful lighting.

Like any older house, this one has a long story to tell.
Here are just a few key facts.
In 1917 my grandfather Emil Bühler bought the villa. Emil was the son of the brewer and brewery owner Casimir Bühler in Gengenbach.
He moved in with wife, two young children and his mother.
The house was big enough, the two women got on well and had a very nice time. Frequently, convivial dance evenings and small parties took place in the villa. The family was an integral part of the cultural life in Gengenbach.

In wartime, the large window of the subject suffered considerable damage, and spread the family in different areas. After the war, the house was rented because of the housing shortage to several parties. Including a dentist with his family and his practice.
Also a French master tailor with her studio moved here.
But again and again, tenants moved in, who did not appreciate the charm, the lifestyle and the generosity of the house: a painter (artist), former submarine sailor in the 2nd. World War, transformed the house into a ship. As a result, over time it licked some corners and water entered the house. As a true sailor, a little bit of water is not bad!

But now the house had passed into my possession; I was glad when I was able to dry the ship. Over the years, the villa had suffered a lot. It was an intense Auseinadersetzung with the life in such a villa instead. I wanted to give her as much as possible, the old charm and the original color again. (By that time, all the doors, railings, and woodwork had been painted over in a dark dreary brown.) Even the truss was framed in that lifeless hue.)
After two years it was done: the windows were made after the original with the original fittings. A new parquet floor has been relocated. The heating system and heaters have been renewed. The large Art Nouveau window - of which there were only parts left - was lovingly restored. The roof newly covered and fully insulated. The house was listed as a historical monument.

The Villa Today
The villa is now on the edge of a large park in a large garden.
Left flows a brook along the property along the front flows 50 meters away the Kinzig past the house.

garden
The garden is surrounded for the most part by a Thujahecken and go far unreasonable. The bed borders are ... A wine covered gazebo, located on the north side, offers on hot days a pleasant seat, - dining, and resting place, an oasis which is usually slightly blown.

ground floor
In the entrance area of the hallway is still the original functioning tiled stove. It is due to his age that he should only be heated once a week. But then he works an incomparable warmth. The reminiscent of fairytale evenings in the safe family.
By opening a sliding door, the hallway can be connected to the living space. This creates a spacious expanse in the entrance area. The living space is set up for family gatherings or for friends. On cooler evenings, a Swedish stove provides a pleasant, cozy atmosphere.
From the living room leads into the morning light-filled conservatory.

Both from the living room, as well as from the hallway leads to the dining room. Whether for a hearty breakfast or a nice, well-groomed dinner together or the planning of the next excursions, he is wonderfully suitable.

On the ground floor there is also a sleeping room with a 0.90 X 2 meter bed. On afternoons, this bright room is flooded with light on sunny days.
A secretary is available as a workplace.

The large kitchen is fully furnished. From the kitchen you get a bathroom with shower and toilet. Another toilet is located in the area of the rear entrance.

First floor
On the first floor there are two spacious bedrooms.
The one bedroom with a view of the monastery has a 2 x 2 meter double bed, a small balcony and a 15sqm large terrace.
The second bedroom has a magnificent view of the Kinzig with a wrap around balcony, as well as a walk-in closet.
The bed is 1.40 x 2 meters. A large, downstairs table with two chairs is still in it.

On this floor is the second bathroom with tub, shower and toilet.
The bathroom leads directly to the terrace.

The terrace is so large that it comfortably provides space for 4 people who want to do their yoga exercises. But even without yoga exercises, the terrace is a dream.
It has a unique view of the monastery and the Kinzigtorturm.

We had a wonderful stay! The house was incredibly spacious and felt like a true home away from home. The location was excellent—we were just a short walk from the Christmas markets and restaurants. The home was well-stocked with everything we could possibly need. The hosts put a lot of thought into the guest experience and provided a lot of helpful information. They were kind and attentive throughout our stay. We would definitely stay here again!

The house was big, plenty of room and had great character. It was nice to have multiple bathrooms and a dishwasher. The location was ideal - 5 minutes walk to old town and less than 10 to train station.

Lovely house with plenty of space and well positioned. Great for teenagers / young adults as there was lots of room to spread out and a good Internet connection. The house is very interesting with lots of unique features including balconies and roof terraces. We enjoyed trips to Europa Park, Freiburg, Strasbourg and a ruined castle. The only issue is that the car parking spaces are narrow, and it can be a little difficult to access especially if (like us) you have a big car.Overall though it was a great stay and I would recommend this property.

An elegant, spacious property ideally located at the edge of this lovely town. We regularly walked the short distance to the many restaurants and cafes and the younger members of our group enjoyed the nearby tennis courts and open air swimming pool. We also enjoyed many walks direct from the house in the hills behind us to discover marvellous views of the vally and town below.

This house is spacious and full of character, with large, comfortable rooms. It has been nicely restored and is very well equipped (except for a shortage of sharp kitchen knives). The beds are excellent, and the plumbing and heating system have been fully renovated. The house is adjacent to the old center of Gengenbach and not far from the heart of the Black Forest by car. There is a parking lot across the street as well as free parking on Friedrichstrasse. This was a perfect place for a group of friends to gather over New Year's, and it was even decorated for the holidays. We recommend the Villa Beckmann without reservation.

Location of the property is perfect. Walking into town, local restaurants, museums, town square is wonderful. Train station was very close - was an easy 45 ride to Strausburg, France. Grocery store 5 minutes away. Kitchen had everything you need to make meals. Outside patio and upstairs balconies were very cozy. Beds comfortable. We brought our own Firestick for the TV so we would have access to English shows. Easy install. Any directions left by the owners were in German but with Google Lens we could easily translate, same goes for restaurant menus etc. The home overall had loads of Old World charm but the interior decor could use a bit of an uplift. Parking was a bit confusing but we got it worked out with the owners.

The house was great for a family vacation. Very spacious, with a large dining room to spend time in, a well appointed kitchen, and several large and cozy bedrooms. The house is old but well maintained and pretty well insulated - on the coldest nights, the wood stove did a good job of heating the common areas, though it took some time. Overall, it was a very cool place to spend the holidays, and we'd happily return.

Lovely family home that was ideal for our party of five adults and one toddler. Incredibly easy walk to the shops, cafes, bakeries, and the train station. The kitchen is the most well-equipped of any place we have every stayed, and it was really fun to cook meals with our family. Host was very responsive to all our questions and very quickly sorted a small issue with the laundry. It was our first time visiting the Black Forest and the house really made our stay so enjoyable. We hope to visit again soon!
