No hot water, no working stove, no on grid power—dim lighting in every room, super noisy generator that had to be shut off if one wants to sleep, filthy kitchen towels, no toiletries—onepitiful towel each in two bathrooms, undisclosed last mile road a regular car would be difficult to get through! Just about all of the publicly—through Expedia and VRBO—listed amenities were not in working condition. A few exchanges with the remote owner elicited a response (from the owner) asking me to initiate the cancellation process through VRBO. I told him that it would be life threatening if we were trying to leave the premise in the pitch dark given the last mile road conditions, and we had no viable choice but to stay in the house—with no working anything—but that we would leave first thing in the morning and I’d demand a full and complete refund. To which he said “no problem.” I immediately contacted Expedia’s customer support to lodge a formal complaint and register my request for a complete cancellation and full refund.
