Stayed Jan 12, 2025The listing is accurate, and the home is really quite nice. There was a little private dip pool at the house which was a nice surprise. The community of Pelican Eyes was once a great community -- and then the management went bankrupt, so parts of it feel abandoned (the restaurants are closed, paths are unpaved, etc.) That said, there seems to be new management investing back in the community such that in a year or two, I'd expect it to be back in action (they've already beautifully redone two community pools)The town's options for food (at least we found) were limited. We preferred having a chef come to the house. The unfortunate part of this experience for us was the house manager. He was quite unresponsive, unaccommodating, and lacked follow up. Simple questions about laundry or new soap went un-responded to. We gave him some leeway initially but repeated poor communication (we were there 8 days) led to this review.

Stayed Oct 7, 2024Casa El Faro was quite comfortable and well maintained spacious 2 bedroom+ home with great view of the town and bay below. The overall complex (formerly called Pelican Eyes) has suffered over the years, but rumor is it is soon to be reinvigorated with new ownership. Once the toast of the town this has the potential to return to that level. Walkable to town (albeit with a few stairs that could use a bit of TLC to reduce the slipping hazard - mostly due to rainy season so not likely a concern in dry season). Bottom line - we would stay here again.

Stayed Jul 22, 2024We had a great time at Casa Faro! The casa and the views are both beautiful. It was immaculately clean (altho keep in mind you are in the tropics and bugs will always find a way in!) and well furnished. Check in with Gabriel was seamless once we found the house. It was a little tricky to find which house it was as we arrived in the dark (due to a flight delay) and during a big storm. Gabriel still met us with a smile on his face tho! Walking to/from town was a bit of an adventure the first couple times, but then we got it down! The security guards were hesitant to let us go to our house when they realized we weren't exactly sure of the way (because we had arrived in the dark), but after we got it worked out, they remembered us and greeted us with smiles. The private pool was such a fun surprise! We also enjoyed the Pelican Eyes pool that is just a short walk away. Having air conditioning was absolutely wonderful and was a much needed way to cool off at the end of long days spent outside. We would certainly recommend Casa Faro to friends!

Stayed Aug 2, 2023The house is absolutely gorgeous and the view is unbeatable. Just be warned as this is not explained in the listing, you have to climb quite a bit of stairs to the property, at least 10-15 minutes of walking. Not ideal if you have elderly guests or anyone with knee/leg issues, and definitely not wheelchair accessible.

Stayed Jul 9, 2023We planned to do a cook out, we bought the beef and everything but the grill at the property wasn’t working and the property manager never respond our calls to assist us. We had to climb 70 stairs to get to the property and they never told us in advance until we got to the property, very disappointed about the 2 huge inconvenience we had.

Stayed Jul 16, 2022The house in perfect condition, but Pelican Eyes resort is no longer what it was! The resort went bankrupt; the difference is abysmal to those who visit the place today. They are more nice places close to lower prices.

Stayed May 2, 2022It provided a nice view , clean and very spacious . . There was no pool and the roads are unpaved at time were very steep you would diffently require a 4x4 to get in and out .

Stayed Oct 10, 2019The place was beautiful and anyone going to Chabad and the city its down some stairs not a big deal at all ... the house is pretty much shobbes approved the large fridge the lights dont go off but they have a small fridge that does.. the place is stunning clean relaxing insane views.. you can watch sunset every day.. its splendid .. the safe gave us issues every day almost not sure if someone was trying to get into it but we were not able to rely on it because it kept breaking which was very frustrating.... Overall great stay.. there was a bit of construction going on but it was not often and only an hour or so .. but or else the staff was pretty friendly and helpful.... Id recommend this place..

Stayed Apr 20, 2018Had a lovely week in San Juan del Sur with the family. Was particularly interesting having a whole resort virtually to ourselves. As the timing was on the shoulder season and given the unfortunate civil unrest in the country, we basically had the run of the property. Which was good except that services such as pool cleaning and bar services were cut back. But we had maid and gardener service daily, and we spent a lot of time at the beaches, in town or on day trips. El Faro has a lovely location with great views and close to the main pool area. The 'kids' enjoyed the vocal feline company.
