Our initial impression was ok - nice pool, nice house though in need of some TLC (some furniture felt old, the water fountain was not functioning but not a big deal in itself). But after 2 days we started to suspect we had a rodent issue as all snacks (apple, pack of cookies, chips) left on the counters were nibbled with tiny pieces of packages left everywhere. At first I was not sure what to make of it (I even thought this was my kids though they rightly denied) but one day before we left, our suspicion got confirmed when I found clear mark of tiny teeth on our bread and mice poop on the counter (I googled it to be sure). Some of the kitchen cabinets when opened had terrible smell - could have been dead mice or poop. My husband got a severe case of tummy ache the last 2 days and spent most days visiting the bathroom. We left early as we have 2 small kids and did not want them to get sick either. I emailed the property manager who confirmed our suspicion (i.e. the owners were there a week before to deal with the problem) and said she would talk to the owner about compensation. They are offering us $150 and quoting this clause in the agreement about being a rural property for their meager compensation. 1/ Would they have had the decency to let us know they had a mice issue before we went, we would have probably cancelled given we were with young kids and that one of of our pregnant friend was supposed to join. Of course none of that was disclosed prior to our visit 2/ the contract makes no mention of pests inside the property. This is very unfortunate that this happens and want to warn other travelers. We have been to quite a few places in the region and NEVER had a rodent issue INSIDE the property, even in places located closer to forest. I wish they would have done the right thing and offered a more decent refund as nearly $6K for an infested property is a steep price to pay. We'll never go back there for sure!
