Boston, Massachusetts
The Villa at Eastie overlooks the harbor and shipping channels, early morning lobstermen can be seen from the sunroom hauling their traps, as well as the ships coming to port. Plane bugs (id book) will love the spectacular view of Logan Int. Airport. At the end of the street is Constitution Beach. There are kayaks for the adventurous or relax in the fountain garden. Smell the sea breeze and reminisce about the politics that must have been discussed in this former Senators home. Entertain in the formal dining room under the crystal chandelier or relax and read a book on one of the balconies overlooking the harbor. The Blue line (T)(public trans) is only two blocks away and offers a ride to the airport station and free shuttle bus to your terminal, a few more stops and you are downtown for world class shopping, restaurants, museums and the Swan boats ride. Ask about antiquing in the area.
We had a great family vacation in Boston and our stay in the Harborfront Villa made it an even more memorable one. We took the subway everywhere and the subway station is a short walk from the house. The house is located in a wonderful walkable neighborhood and we had the feeling of actually being part of Boston (the owner at the corner butcher shop even asked if we were new to the neighborhood). The home’s owners met us and were extremely gracious and showed us around the house on our arrival. The sunroom was great for early morning breakfast and watching the planes takeoff from the airport. All of the bedrooms were spacious and comfortable and everyone enjoyed having wifi available in the house. The house is even more beautiful in person and we will be looking to stay here again next time we are in Boston.
OMG! The villa was everything and more the HomeAway site said it was. We arrived by train from New York so we didn't have a vehicle but, everything was just a few minutes walk from the house. The rail, grocery store, laundry, CVS, several restaurants. The house is so open and welcoming, you just feel like your at home. The decor and furniture are beautifully done, as is the artwork. After spending a large part of our day out sightseeing, it was so awesome to get back to the house, grab a glass of wine and sit outside on the upstairs deck. Although the house is situated across from the airport runway, we never had an issue with the sound from planes taking off and landing. Absolutely perfect! Thank you Nelson and Madeline for your hospitality and sharing your home!
When I first entered the home I was a little taken back by how old it was and a bit of a musty smell. But, within the hour we were all enjoying the charm, the views and the character of the home. We loved staying here and found the home to be comfortable, clean and to fit the needs of our group of 8 family members. This beats staying in a hotel or a newer, less charming home by a Colorado mile! We drove to the Suffolk Downs subway stop (about 5 minute drive), parked and were able to access everything that we wanted to do in the city easily. The near-by Orient Heights station is closed and being re-built and would have been a 5 minute walk, but the other was no problem. We drove to a near-by grocery for food and walked to a near-by drug store. Belle Island seafood was the perfect spot for casual dining and was very affordable. We hope that all of our experiences in vacation rentals will be as positive as this one was!
I stayed in this house for one week with my family, 5 persons. My whole family was enthusiastic about this house. There was enough space for everybody. Items of daily use can be shopped in a nearby CVS/Pharmacy. There is a really excellent Colombian/Italian restaurant nearby. The laundry is 5 minutes walk. We had no car and there really was no need for a car because this home is very near to Orient Heights public transport. In our case this station was on repair, but you can easily walk to Suffolk Downs (5 minutes) or take the bus from Orient Heights to Suffolk Downs. Although the house is directly on the other side of Logan airport, within the house you hear nothing! During our week there was a heat wave in Boston, so outside it was quite hot, but within the house it stayed nice and cool. The pictures given in HomeAway adequately reflect how the house and its interior look like. The house and its furniture is ancient (what makes it lovely) but TV, lavatory and kitchen are modern. The owner offered us 3 bicycles and 2 kayaks. It was a great pleasure to kayak between the house and seeing all the airplanes starting and landing on the airport. There is a nice beach 3 minutes walk away. As the owners said the area is safe. We can confirm this. The home has internet access but only for five concurrent users. So my internet savvy and addicted family (mobiles, tablets, laptops) had to negotiate who can go online and when ;-) To sum up: Simply very good.
After a very long rainy drive from North Carolina we were greeted by this warm and welcoming home. It had everything our party of 8 could ask for. Close to the T and downtown Boston, outstanding views (watching the planes was great) and a very safe neighborhood to explore. Thank you so much Nelson and Madeline!
We had a wonderful stay at this lovely home. Our party of 8 made it a full house but we never felt crowded in this spacious place. Beautifully decorated, home owners could not be friendlier. Best room in the house is certainly the sun room overlooking the bay and entire city of Boston. Quick walk to the subway. Lovely neighborhood. Belle Idle seafood a few blocks away is the best. Highly recommend this place!
Beautiful house in a great location. It is the best equipped and furnished house we have stayed in. Description and other details listing was accurate - if anything they don't convey the full character which is impressive. We will definitely stay here again when we return to Boston.
This East Boston house was great. Two families, one from Texas and one from Michigan, spent Thanksgiving week at the house. Upon arrival, Nelson gave us a quick tour and he was off. A full, traditional Thanksgiving meal was cooked in the kitchen and the dining room table was large enough for us all to sit around. We used the living room for family games and the side yard for tailgate toss! As Nelson said, the best room in the house is the sun room facing the airport. It was an excellent place to watch the waterfowl in the morning, along with a red-tailed hawk. In the evenings, the sunsets and views of Boston were superb. Airplane noise was not a problem. The T station (Blue Line) was only a 5 minute walk and you can then be at State or Gov't Stations in downtown Boston in a total of 15-20 minutes. The only modern necessity missing was internet. The signal from Logan Airport is too week. I recommend using your iphone as a hot spot or driving up to the Starbucks. Kevin D.
We just got back from our stay at the villa, and what a wonderful home. Overall I would give this five stars. We had a busy schedule the day of our arrival and the homeowner was nice enough to give us a quick tour and then let us be on our way. We had a total of five adults and two toddlers(3&2). It was less than ten mins to drive to Logan, we honestly saw our family's plane land and then drove to logan and we were waiting for them before they made it out of customs. The house it's self is a wonderful mix of old and new. The garden area was a great outlet for two small children to burn off their energy. The neighborhood felt safe and quiet. The house is quiet. We were there for the begining of Sandy and could not hear all the wind blowing outside when in the house. You do hear the planes but the noise is not loud and does stop during the night. Don't let that deter you from renting. The house is well supplied and the rooms are comfortable. Note the master bed is firm, not a bad thing but something to be aware of. The other beds seemed more plush topped. Easy access to the T, we parked and walked about 200 ft to the station and were in Boston in no time. The areas where I would consider the house less than five are small, there is no internet access(but your on vacation, do you need it) we just hot spotted our phone and used that for access. Also if you have very small children like us, you need to be alert. Our three year old was fine but our daughter, two, was looking for things to do and her toys were not interesting compared to the new surroundings. There is an antique birdhouse in the livingroom with ivory decorations. She was in love with it, so we quickly placed it in the office with the door shut. Also, per Nelson's advice we removed the glass from the coffee table in the living room. There is no TV downstairs so that was not an option either. When we were in the house I was happy there were five adults and we had taken along lots of books. Overall it was wonderful and dollar for dollar you can not beat the value. To Foodies, you are five mins. from Rino's place which we brought in our first night there. It was amazing!
This house is amazing. Our family holiday (4 adults, 2 teenagers) was made all the better for staying here. Plenty of space, great location, quiet neighbourhood yet close to the T and local amenities. And watching the airport is just fascinating! The noise is minimal and didn't disturb sleep or detract in any way from enjoying the house. In fact, unless the planes were taking off from the closest runway, you couldn't hear them at all. But that was no fun to watch! The key thing about this review should be the house itself though. It's beautiful, spacious, well-equipped and ideal for a family group. The walk to the T station was 5 minutes and then it was only another 10/15 minutes into the heart of Boston. It was so easy. And we can highly recommend Belle Isle Seafood. It's less than a 5 minute walk from the house and serves great food. All in all, I'd highly recommend this house. Nelson, thank you so much for making things so easy for us. We really appreciated everything. Susan Edinburgh, Scotland
