Carmel, California
This is a true villa on a 1 acre estate between Hwy 1 and the ocean. Carmel Highlands is located 5 minutes from downtown Carmel. Pebble Beach and the Aquarium are 15 minutes away. In the early 1900's, Carmel was largely an artists community. Many artists struggled, the successful lived in the Highlands. The Highlands is the beginning of Big Sur which continues on another 100 miles. The villa is rural yet it is not isolated, walk to the Highlands General Store, 5 minutes to dinner in downtown. Travel 1 minute south of the villa and the coastline changes dramatically. Many wonderful ocean views from the yard, porch and living room of the villa. Pt. Lobos State Reserve is very near for miles of hikes. You can explore forever.
The villa was built in 1953 and reconstructed in 2005. The reconstruction updated and remodeled the villa to bring back the feeling of old California such as the 250 year Mexican arches and the hand carved bedroom doors from the days of Junipero Serra. For rose lovers there are 150 rose bushes on the property. Come experience the magic of Carmel Highlands.
Perfect for family reunions and birthdays with it's four bedrooms, (2) king beds, (2) queen beds. There is a formal dining room for your family or an outside deck off the dining room with a custom table for 8. Wander the grounds and gardens of the level one acre estate and play volleyball on the back lawn if you like. Photo opportunities abound under the stone arches or the deck with the ocean and rock caves at Birdrock. Occasionally you will hear the sea lions bark, smell the ocean air, wander the many gardens with the Pacific in your backyard. The weather by the sea can best be described as two seasons of Spring and two seasons of Fall. It can be 110 degrees inland yet the temperature in the Highlands rarely exceeds 70 degrees.
The Villa has wireless internet service--Starlink !
You are vacationing green, the Villa has a Tesla Solar roof.
Four bedrooms, three full baths, accommodates up to 8.
Lots of parking for all your vehicles within the large iron gates.
Two kings-two queens
Two minutes south to the Hyatt and the 5 star Pacific Edge Restaurant. Clint Eastwood’s restaurant is near by. Enjoy fireplaces in all but one bedroom (inserts) take in the sea air. Unlike any vacation you will have ever taken. You will not want to leave. Pictures do not do the Villa justice.
The home and location is perfect for your sta
Amazing property and location. Easy in and out to everything Carmel has to offer. Every evening we spent cooking out and enjoying our family. The house is beautiful and unique with character throughout. Everything worked as anticipated and it was very clean, well maintained. A pleasure to stay there.
Worked perfect for parents of the groom. Unique and beautiful gardens.
Loved the decor and furnishings of the house, had that old world lived in feeling. Very nicely set up with interesting articles of decor and pictures everywhere. However, on the practical side, when we arrived (April) the house was very cold and did not get warm for another 24 hours, really uncomfortable. My biggest complaint is that there were no window coverings on the 6 windows in the master bedroom! Resulting in us being awakened by the light coming in at 5:30 - 6 a.m. for the 4 mornings we were there. I actually left feeling more tired for lack of sleep, than when we arrived. Whoever cleaned the house did not do a good job. Quite a few cobwebs and dust. Counter in the kitchen was sticky. The placemats for kitchen use were not clean at all, some food sticking on to them from previous renters. The coffee grinder that was supposed to be in the kitchen never did show up. Our 4 coffee drinkers were not happy. Heads up if staying in the area next year, check dates for the Big Sur marathon. This year it took place last weekend of April. Unfortunately for us a brass band, supporters and food tables were all set up right outside the house. Band started playing at 7:30 a.m. The really bad part was, we could not get out of the house until noon. Road was closed to traffic. We had planned to attend the11:00 a.m. services at Carmel Mission, but were stuck at the house until all of the participants came through. As I said, very mixed experience. If I thought the house would be cleaner, warmer and definitely have window coverings I would go back, but the manager needs to do a much better job of making sure everything is as it should be.
This is a perfect property for a family holiday gathering. Point Lobos Reserve is nearby, beaches, and hiking trails. We visited the Monterey Aquarium and played volleyball and soccer in the back yard. We enthusiastically recommend this propert.y.
Family group of 8 stayed here from a wedding weekend visiting from Florida. Location was easy to find and convenient to Carmel and Monterey, also easy access to run down to Big Sur. We used the kitchen and outdoor grill one night and everything was provided to make a large group meal. Internet access is sometimes spotty but overall consistent and you will need it as cell service can be limited. House and furniture are bit dated but overall comfortable, warm and inviting. I'd recommend this place and would stay here again
Great location with easy access to all that Monterey, Carmel, and Big Sur have to offer.
Directly across the street from a lovely convenience store and a view of the ocean! Beautiful spot!
Loved it. We had the best time and the location is literal perfection. Was ideal for everything we needed and John was so kind and easy to communicate with.
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay - location and amenities were perfect for our family.
When searching for accommodations for my family, it was a bit of a challenge. With 3 generations staying under one roof, I wanted to make sure each family had their own space while also having large enough common areas to allow everyone to spend quality time together. My elderly parents had their own room with plenty of space for them to escape from the noise & ruckus of the little ones when they needed to rest. My brother’s family stayed in the room with the smaller downstairs room off of it - perfect for a family with two little ones. My sister & 18-month-old nephew had their own room. And, my family & I were upstairs, with my two teenagers. We couldn’t have asked for a more perfect house for all of us to stay in! The weather was a bit chilly & overcast with a thick marine layer for the entire 4 days we were in Carmel. But, it wasn’t so bad that we couldn’t get out & about. The Villa is so close to everything. On one of the days, we went to Sunday Mass at the mission & explored the town. On another day, we went to the Monterey Bay Aquarium & meandered about Cannery Row. There was/is just so much to do in the area! (BTW… The antique stores are awesome!) It was nice to come back to a space that allowed everyone to unwind & not be on top of each other. The jacuzzi broke down before we got there & wouldn’t be fixed until after our trip, so we couldn’t soak after the long days of walking. John let us know ahead of time. However, it would’ve been nice to hop into the jacuzzi after all the little ones were in bed each night with some wine or cocktails. Nonetheless, all the other great aspects of the house made up for it! The Villa marries the charms of an older property with all the modern amenities we’re used to. The TV’s have all the essential streaming services and the WiFi was a must for the teenagers (& the hubs who was still semi-working during our trip). Everything was exactly as described and was perfect for our family’s needs. My family is talking about making this a yearly trip since we all had such a wonderful time! Thank You, John, for your hospitality & great communication! We cannot wait to come back again!
