A clean and stylish villa in the centre of the town
Communication with George was very easy and prompt from the start and throughout. This is a small family business and is well organised with personal touches and attention to detail. The family quite rightly take great pride in sharing their lovely villas which although located in a village , are tucked away and very quiet and private. The villa was very clean and well equipped. We loved the pool and well shaded outside eating area . Plenty of sunbeds with shades . The village has everything you could need from a well stocked supermarket , gelateria, bakery , pizza and coffee shops and a few traditional tavernas serving good food. The square in front of the church is a lovely setting . We did find it useful to have a car to explore the island and pop to restaurants down by the sea ( Taverna Galleria was good ) and into Rethymno town. The fortress is definitely worth a visit as well as the harbour area. We also enjoyed Kouras Lake , Preveli Beach and Georgioupolis. The scenery is fabulous especially travelling South through canyons and gorges. George and his mother were very kind and hospitable. We had a very warm welcome despite arriving late because of flight delays . We really loved our stay. A week was not long enough. We would highly recommend the lovely villa Myrtia.
We booked villa Myrtia after having stayed in other villa's for the 5 previous summer holidays on Crete. The bar was set high because we rated our stay at the other villa's already with very good to excellent. Villa Myrtia ended up as being our favorite one so far. The 5 star rating is so well-deserved. First of all it was to convenient and easy to communicate with the owner (George) before we arrived. The information and service provided was spot on and pleasant. The villa itself was clean, spacious and felt warm. The pool area was amazing and we spent many, many hours relaxing there. Also the location of the villa is very convenient. Lot's of coffee bars are only a short distance away, as well as the supermarket and some restaurants. (We can really recommend the pizzeria) Also Rethymno is just a 15 min drive. The service (regular cleaning of the house and pool) provided by George and his family was just excellent. His mom and sister prepared an amazing and tasteful breakfast for us and the mother of George also made 2 delicious desserts for us. The villa premises was also base camp for a ginger cat and her 4 ginger kittens. Being the animal/cat lovers we are we took good care of them and we hope future guests will do the same. We are really impressed how well George, his mom and sister manage the 3 villa's they own. We well definitively be back.
We had a great stay! The villa is beautifully decorated, very clean & homely. It is nicely located in the middle of the village, so very easy to pop in & get supplies but also very quiet & private. The hosts are very attentive & helpful! The homemade goodies are delicious thank you! It is easy to drive or catch a bus into the main town. The house is fully kitted out with everything needed. My only suggestion would be for more storage in the bedrooms for clothes.
Right from when we booked I was impressed with the friendly, prompt communication from the host. George was able to supply us with useful information ahead of our trip, and this ensured we were ready to relax from the start of the holiday. The villa was easy to locate from instructions, we arrived in two hire cars from Chania and there was ample parking for both cars at the rear of the property. The house was modern, clean and cool inside. We had the air con on in the bedrooms each night but it didn't need to be too low (or else it got too cold!). There are three showers so plenty to go round and we didn't run out of hot water! All the appliances worked fine - having a washing machine was great and meant we could travel a bit lighter. You'll need your own beach towels, but George and Mary supply pool and bathroom towels. Atsipopolou is a cute village and it was handy having the supermarket and a choice of places to eat close by. There is some noise from motorbikes (delivery drivers) out on the road, but it didn't bother us - in fact our granddaughter at 13 months was fascinated by them! We walked up to the village centre for dinner a couple of times, plus went to Prine up the hill and into Rethymno a few times. One night, Mary made us dinner of Gemitsa (veg stuffed with rice) and Giouvetsi (slow cooked beef with orzo) - absolutely delicious! The pool was kept very clean and we loved the birds (martins) swooping around. Altogether a fun, relaxing family holiday. Recommend!
Having read previous reviews, our expectations were high and we weren’t disappointed. We were a group of six - my husband and I and four late teen/adult children. I was after a villa that would provide a cool, comfortable and welcoming base for us as we explored Rethymno. I can only repeat what other reviewers have said - the villla was terrific. We also wanted to be located somewhere that would be easy for everyone to experience a bit of local life outside of the tourist traps - buying food from the local shops, taking the bus to and from Rethymno, having a coffee in one of several coffee shops and watching the neighbourhood. For this, the location was brilliant. George also helped to arrange a day trip to Samaria Gorge which was a highlight of our entire trip to Greece.
Our family of four had a wonderful stay at Villa Myrtia. The villa itself has a comfortable four bedrooms with a nicely equipped kitchen and shared living space. It has all the modern amenities and the grounds are lovely - a beautiful pool and lounge area, bbq, plus large balcony perfect for having morning coffee or evening wine. The Villa is a two minute walk to bakeries, restaurants and grocery stores. George met us at 2 am as our flight was delayed and his mother made us sandwiches and a pie so we could have something to eat if we were hungry. George’s mother makes incredible food and she prepared a meal for our family the last night of our stay. It was one of our favorite meals in Greece, I highly recommend having her prepare food. They were wonderful hosts and shared all the best spots to eat and visit during our stay.
The villa is in the middle of the village, next door to a bakery/coffee shop. There’s a bar on the other side. A good supermarket is 5 mins walk away. More supermarkets, butchers are a short drive away. When in the villa you wouldn’t know there’s a bustling village just metres away, as it’s v quiet.
Excellent villa, pool and location. We liked that we could walk to the local shops and tavernas. Everything was clean and ready on arrival and refreshed half way through the week which was lovely. Our grandchildren spent many hours in the pool! Overall an excellent stay including the gifts from George and his mother. We would highly recommend this property.
Just returned from staying at Villa Myrtia. The villa is spacious & spotlessly clean. George was there to greet us on arrival with Raki and a type of pie his mother had made. He was very helpful and arrives quickly to help if there are any problems. There is everything you could need for your stay locally within the village. We did not hire a car as we just wanted a chilled out week, however it was very easy to buy a bus ticket from the bakery near the villa to go into Retymno where there are lots of tourist type shops and many restaurants. We also ate locally where the choice of food is less but beautifully cooked! George brought a dessert midweek, also made by his mother and even a parting gift made by his sister, which was much appreciated. All in all we had a great stay! Excellent.
We have just returned from an amazing first trip to Crete. We had the most amazing stay and will definitely return. The villa was perfect in every way. There is nothing we would change. George our host was amazing extremely helpful and welcoming. He welcomed us on our first day with a traditional Greek dish and drink that his mother had prepared Also during the week he treated us to a beautiful dessert also prepared by his mother. All amenities are very close with shops restaurants and bakery. We would highly recommend this Villa.
The property is wonderful. Great coffee around the corner. Wonderful restaurants a short stroll away. Pool was terrific! George and his mother and sister took GREAT care of us. Highly recommended.
