We checked out of a VRBO in Playa Del Carmen and had no place to go between with our luggage so grounds keepers were happy to let us set our luggage inside while they finished up. The only reason I did not give the amenities 5 stars is bc it says there is a washer and dryer and there is not. We had already been in the area a week and were counting on washing and re-wearing and were not able to. The house is a gem. The view is unreal with great sunrises. The beach is rocky so it makes for good snorkeling right out your back door but not a beach you can get up and go walk on. There is no grocery store besides convenience stores close so I recommend getting groceries in Puerta Aventureas on your way. You can get most places by foot but the town is quite a jump. We got motor taxis to get over there. The grounds keeper Emilio is very kind and helpful. It took us at least an hour and a half to get to the Cancun airport the morning of our departure so account for that. We would stay here again but would most likely try to get a car next time. We were a large group and the transports to go do things really added up. The restaurant two doors down is good and reasonable. Akumal beach is sort of crowded, but full of life. We saw turtles, sting ray and fish, crabs, iguanas, and starfish. The home is older, but has great character. The area is very safe. You are within driving distance to Tulum. The big plus is so many bathrooms! Great for a large group.
Beautiful property
Wonderful location within walking distance to everything you need. The home accommodated our group eight with ease. Each couple had their own private bathroom which is a huge plus!! Waking up to the most beautiful sunrises every morning was an extra bonus. Would happily recommend!! Will definitely stay here again!!
First, the casita was a mess and not really useable. We rented this location due to the room situation and to use a “storeroom “ as a bedroom was unacceptable. No washer and dryer to use, refrigerator barely works, plugs are hit and miss. So called “ private beach “ is a narrow section above the rocks. Not a beach. Very disappointed. It’s for sale so owner isn’t fixing things nor updating anything. Highly recommend bypassing.
What a great place! We had an amazing time here. It’s right on the water and the view is fantastic. The house can accommodate a large group and has all the amenities you need. It’s about a minute walk to La Buena Vida, a really cool bar/restaurant on the beach. It’s also a secure area since the road leading in is controlled by a security gate with a guard. Highly recommended!
My husband and I took our 18 year old triplets on their senior vacation. We could not have asked for a better trip! There were enough activities that the kids weren’t bored, but enough down time for all to relax. The Akumal Dive Shop was amazing and having La Buena Vida right next door meant that I didn’t have to spend my vacation cooking and fixing meals. The house was spacious - with everyone having their own room - and the location was perfect. We rented a car to get to and from the airport, but otherwise rarely used it. I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a relaxing and easy get away!
Beautiful views in a quiet little nook of a town. Loved every minute of this stay.
Location, location, location. Don't hesitate to rent this house. Ignore the winers in other reviews. Sure the house is a bit dated - cute Mexican tile counters instead of granite counter tops etc. This is Mexico! What a wonder home with fantastic views. The proximity to the reasonably priced restaurant three doors down made cooking dinners unnecessary. We had dinner there every night! Happy hour with 1/2 price drinks on top of that. Would not hesitate to stay again. Don, the host, was a great communicator and would check in regularly to make sure we had everything we needed. Again ignore the negative reviews. Those guests should have stayed at a luxury hotel. Again views and location can't be beat. Very quiet neighborhood. All couples raved about the home. Thanks Don for a wonderful vacation enjoyed by all!
We were nervous about the negative reviews, but really wanted beachfront near Tulum, so we took a chance. The email I received the day before arrival titled here are the keys to your house had the address and check in time, no instructions. I reached out to the owner and manager, unsuccessfully. Two members of my party arrived via taxi w luggage exactly at check in time. They knocked on the doors & walked the perimeter - no one was on site. They were left to sit on the porch in the hottest part of the day, eaten by mosquitos for 2-1/2 hours before we gained access. Finally with the help of VRBO customer service we were able to reach Tina, the owner's secretary &her fiance Dwight. I told her how frustrated we were, their response was that the owner of the house had a stroke recently. While I have empathy for his situation, we booked WELL in advance, paid in full & theres no excuse for no communication if they have active bookings. Tina insisted the groundskeeper, who she referred to as Armando, was onsite &my people must be at the wrong house, argued there are no mosquitos in mexico when I expressed dissatisfaction. She finally gave us a door code. Emilio – not Armando – is the groundskeeper that has been working there for 18 years! He met us that evening, apologized for not being there as he never got word from Tina on our arrival. There was not a single wine glass, bottle opener, no chairs on upstairs terrace, minimal plates/bowls, cracked & peeling pots/pans that need to be replaced immediately. Tina said anything that is missing from the 7 BDRM house was stolen by previous guests & they weren’t going to replace. She also instructed Emilio to lock the 2 upstairs rooms because we were only 6 people & could share the downstairs beds, one of which had a broken fan that swung so loudly when on, no one could’ve slept in that room. We were not 3 couples & specifically rented the entire house as described on thebooking, another example of their cheap, lazy attempts to cut corners. The pool pump was broken &unable to keep water circulating for the entirety of our stay. Cloudy water, strong chlorine & Emilio had minimal resources to fix it. Big letdown. All negative feedback is directed 100% at the owner &his assistants who are unfit for property management & unprofessional. Emilio and his wife were the saving gracefor our vacation. They were kind, extremely accommodating and deserve 5 stars for their personal contribution to our stay!!
We have been travelling to this area for 20+ years and have rented several homes and condos in the area. Value for your $$ is not great. I beleive we paid for the location. We recently stayed for 3 weeks at the home, it’s location. Is amazing! If you like to go out to eat a lot this place is suitable. We do a lot of cooking and the kitchen was under stocked for sure. Place needs some tlc for sure. It’s been a while since it had a good clean. It has 6 bedrooms but if you filled them all I think the rest of the house would have been over crowded. The house staff were wonderful and did their best. The location and view are the best things about this property.
