Pleasant house in all seasons for its comfort and its exceptional location 50 m from the beach, behind the dune and facing the national forest, which makes it a calm and peaceful place suitable for walks even in winter. Its small garden is surrounded by greenery and sheltered from the west winds by the forest of holm oaks. The house benefits from the European classification '2 stars' thanks to its comfort and its equipment (electric heating for winter, sink with mixer tap, hob, oven with rotisserie, microwave oven, dishwasher, washing machine, fridge, television, DVD player, radio, telephone with card, Internet, Wifi, its kitchen utensils, its household linen provided (sheets, hand towels, bath mat and tea towels), its storage cupboards. On the ground floor: living room with a kitchenette, double bedroom (two 80 cm beds that can be pushed together), bathroom with shower and sink, separate toilet. Upstairs a bedroom on the rock (2 beds of 80 can be pushed together into a bed of 1.60m) and its lounge-reading area with sofa bed.
The interest is threefold: house with quality bedding and complete equipment, calm and sheltered garden, starting point for many walks, proximity to the sea, the sandy and rocky beach, facing due south and sheltered from the swell of the ocean by the Ile de Ré. In addition, the swimming areas are supervised in summer and separated from the base of the windsurf boards. The village with many shops is 800m from the house. For its climate and sunshine the site is remarkable. Private parking: place n ° 4. Price per night from 1st september to 30 june (80€ and 10% dicount for 8 night and 15 % for 14 nights . Lovely location, nice and quiet, cottage looking a little tired inside inside and garden a little overgrown. Had a lovely relaxing holiday.

This is a small, maritime themed cottage, which could easily achieve a personal higher star rating. It is generally well equipped and the mezzanine bedroom (that we used) had very comfortable beds. The small downstairs bedroom would be useful if you didn’t fancy the quirky stairs to the mezzanine floor, but we much preferred the open plan aspect of being upstairs. The provision of towels etc. was a plus as too was the private paved garden, also it was only a 2 minute stroll to one of the best beaches, an ideal location. The shower is very compact and the base a little tired, but a great hot water supply. There were a few things that stopped us from rating this higher. The oven in the kitchen does not work, a microwave is there, but micro-waved Croissants don’t taste as good! The plugs in the two sinks are faulty and look like they have been for a while, so the water just runs through. Recently somebody has stayed there with a dog and the upstairs especially smells very ‘doggy’ by the bed and we found quite a few dog hairs on the floor and under things. The Hoover too smelt the same. The Internet is under ‘General’ and we presumed there was Internet in the house. This isn’t the case, although it seems you can visit the Marie to use the account, but there is little point in doing that since the harbour has a good free wifi service. The pedal bin lid in the kitchen rusted through and snapped off whilst we were there, and although we were told it would be replaced (presumably after we left) the condition of it meant that it was apparent it should have been replaced much earlier. The paintwork too is badly damaged in quite a few places. Everything needs to be refreshed, repainted and replaced if old and worn, not to wait for it to finally break, although we have no idea of how long it is since the oven worked. This isn’t a cheap rental cottage and we feel that it should include a proper clean at the end of each rental instead of the occupants cleaning it themselves or paying an extra fee to have it done. Of course it should be regularly kept clean as you would do your own home, but it was apparent that the final ‘departure clean’ is often rushed because the occupants are wanting to start their journey home. Not-withstanding the paragraph above we really enjoyed our stay at Number 4. It is beautifully quiet, comfortable, near the beach and the forest. A 15 minute walk to the harbour and its restaurants – it could be the perfect rental!!
