The property has amazing location - on the beach and near Galle, close tea plantation, cinnamon plantation and other places to get that wonderful Sri Lankan experience. Villa is clean, staff is friendly and always eager to help. Ideal for adults or families. We would definitely come back!!! Thanks for a nice vacation.

We loved our stay in South Point Abbey. The staff were wonderful, the house full of history, the garden and pool magnificent. The road outside can be a little noisy at 'rush hour'. The staff could not have done more for our group of eight! The chef gave us little demonstrations of cooking and provided more and more interesting dishes every day! The air conditioned taxi was always at our disposal and the staff even helped us to buy rail tickets! We did find the sea too rough for snorkelling and quite a lot of sea urchins!

Eight of us stayed at South Point Abbey for two weeks. All of our needs were met by the very attentive staff, in particular Prageth, Nilusha and Sureth our chef. The house was always clean and the pool and garden areas immaculate. I was a bit shocked how busy the road outside was in 'rush hour' although the noise of the sea drowned this out. The food was always wonderful and Sureth gave us mini demonstrations which was great! The bedrooms were large and comfortable, the bathrooms spacious and the terraces perfect for reading or just chatting. Sonali, the owner, was a joy to deal with from start to finish. We did the Udawalawe safari, the elephant orphanage, the local tea plantation and Whale Watching from Mirissa. We went to Galle, the local town, and enjoyed good shops, restaurants and bars. Sri Lanka is a beautiful, lush country with much to enjoy. I found the local people always friendly and helpful, but found the roads pretty scary at times! If you want a really peaceful and relaxing holiday, I would thoroughly recommend South Point Abbey. However, beware that the sea was pretty rough and we saw lots of sea urchins!

We booked this house based on all the excellent reviews. Rather than restate everything that has already been said I will say that the reviews were spot on. Great house, great beach, great pool, great staff, great food, great fun!

We were looking at a tall order and when we looked at the criteria for our family get together. My parents in their 70's, their three sons, wives and 7 grandchildren aged between 18 and 2. This place appeared to tick every box when we booked the trip and smashed the criteria into the stratosphere when we got there. It just got better everyday, to say we didn't want to leave is an understatement. We had 15 people so hired the Villa and the Abbey, they are next door to each other and each had a pool. Then there was the beach which was only yards away. The bedrooms are massive, air conditioned with adjoining bathrooms. They are kept pristeen by the team of wonderful staff who you barely notice. As you know with kids near a beach, and pool, sand and water was constantly dragged into the houses. You would never know it, gone, before you had chance to apologise to the staff. The rooms were all tidied and beds made before you were back from breakfast and if you wanted coffee, tea or a beer you simply had to ask and you could sit at any of the beautiful parts of the property and enjoy the sun, the shade, the peace and quiet or go and be a part of the action at whichever pool was populated by the kids that particular day. We stayed for 12 nights and we all ate together at the Villa and spent evenings after at the Abbey. The food was first class and the chefs would cater for whatever tastes you wanted. We all love spicey food and the local dishes were superb and graded heatwise to peoples different preferences including dad who asked for super spiced and got exactly what he wanted! That was him happy for the whole fortnight. They also catered for the younger children and made excellent pizza's, soups, pastas and burgers when they fancied some less exotic food. Everyday was made special by the staff, hand picked by Sonali who we did not meet, but we did meet her son who took the older kids quadbiking while we visited their family tea plantation. We also met her husband who dropped by to deliver another beautiful cake and a welcome bottle of wine. Nothing was too much trouble. We ate out a couple of nights at posh hotels in Galle and realised the food at home was just as good so not worth the effort. What was lovely was taking a 2 minute tuk tuk ride to the nearby Fortress Hotel for pre dinner cocktails which we did a couple of times.

We were a group of 9 people staying at the Abbey and honestly we were all blown out of our minds by the beauty of the house, the private beach, the gorgeous infinity pool, the garden and of course the kindness and discretion of the staff. We want to thank you Sonali for this incredible stay! Everything was made so easy: whenever we asked for some info we got it, the transport to and fro the airport was arranged last minute, the re-booking after our first stay was a life saver. We honestly feel like we have a second home in Kathaluwa now :) Hat goes off to Mr Gamini for organizing everything, Mr Shanta who cooked GREAT food with the catch of the day, Mrs Sumali who is always smiling and our favorite Prageeth aka the YES man!

I will try not to use too many superlatives in order to give a balanced view of our stay! We have just returned from 7 nights in the Abbey - family of five with 3 children aged 10, 9 & 6, my husband and I plus his mother who is 81 year old diabetic Sri Lankan - quite a gang! From the moment I first contacted Sonali it was clear that she runs a tight and efficient ship! Her driver Upali picked us up in Colombo - their van is big and safe and has a number of seat-belts and he is a confident and safe driver who is very calm - this is beneficial when driving in SL! SERVICE: the staff of 6 are trained to standards that we would be challenged to find anywhere else. We typically stay in 5* hotels but chef Shantha, housekeeper Sujith and others were capable of fulfilling our every whim whilst never being intrusive. The children could wander into the kitchen for fresh fruit drinks at any time (or a quick snack!), each meal was presented with flair and flourish and the table decorations take your breath away! Rooms and bathrooms kept spotless and the entire property was kept sparkling and gleaming throughout our stay. FOOD: mouth-watering, delicious and tempered to the right degree of spiciness' depending on your palate. All dietary needs catered for and we were treated to all sorts of foodie delights. Marvellous fresh fruit, fresh fish and curries of every description. HOUSE: charming and yes, slightly rustic. Very efficient air-cons which were lovely at the end of the day, but also lots of ceiling fans which kept us cool. House is kept spotless, beds made and bathrooms cleaned daily. About 10 m from the sea, resulting in a very cool ocean breeze throughout the day. ENVIRON: softest sandy beach, rabbits, charming school opposite (we spent the morning). Meet Nimali the sewing lady who run up local costumes & dresses and sarongs for us; go to Marissa beach for good swimming; can also swim in front of villa. We released 43 turtles into the sea and kids say it was a high-light of the trip, together with a fishing trip on Lake Koggala which SouthPoint will arrange. We caught some fish and bought crab for our curry and saw cinammon bark being peeled - all wonderful and earthy and simple. We will return - our children cried upon leaving the staff and the house - truly a holiday of a lifetime!

We had a truly fantastic time at Southpoint Abbey. We stayed there for 2 weeks with our two children, aged 2 and 4. The staff at the house were lovely, and couldn’t do more for us – the cooking was amazing and they toned down the spice for the children. The children would go into the kitchen to watch Janaka cooking the meals. The house itself is beautiful – really airy and stylish with large rooms and clean bathrooms. The pool was great for the kids and it was lovely to be right on an amazing beach. My son (aged 4) and husband went off fishing in the early mornings accompanied by one of the staff from Southpoint Villa next door. The owners of the property (who live in Colombo) came to see us and were really friendly and helpful – our kids played with their sons on the beach and they took us on a boat trip on Koggala lake. They are doing a lot of work raising money for local people and a lot of the proceeds of the Abbey and Villa go to charity. Although the property was on quite a busy road, we were not disturbed by the noise, and you weren’t really aware of this once inside the house. Once you crossed the road you could walk into the lanes within the village. We walked to the station (5 minutes) and took the train to Galle (about 20 mins) which the kids loved. The people in the village are really friendly and loved to interact with the kids. We would thoroughly recommend this property, and think about our whole holiday with great fondness and happy memories. Sue, Chris, Thomas (4yrs) and Ella (2yrs)
