Silver Gate, Montana
Wolves, bear, moose and elk abound in the Silver Gate/Cooke City part of Yellowstone and the Beartooth Mountains. There are beautiful mountain views from the back deck, and front windows. Some of the best native trout fishing in the world is minutes from the house. These include the Yellowstone River, Lamar River, Slough Creek, Soda Butte Creek, and the Clarks Fork of the Yellowstone. This is a summer rental only!
A great family day can be spent touring the famous features of Yellowstone or taking a day trip to Cody, WY to see the Wild Bill Cody Museum, a genuine rodeo nightly, a mock gun fight at the original Irma Hotel, good food, and many shops including the Sierra Outlet. Cooke City is 3 miles away for shopping, restaurants, ATV rentals and much more. But Silver Gate has quite a few sweet places too. The best time for animal watching is June and early July, while the best time for fishing is mid July through September. Hiking is fabulous anytime.
The house is clean, spacious and comfortable, with a large Great Room and fireplace, leather furniture, big kitchen with new black range top cooking surface and full size laundry with half bath on first floor. Second floor has two very large bedrooms with new carpet: One has two double beds and one single bed and the other has a queen bed and a single. This arrangement will sleep a family of six or 5 singles. Also, a nice full bathroom upstairs.
Outside there is a rear deck with gorgeous mountain views so close you feel like you can reach out and touch them. There is a grill and patio furniture for outdoor dining. There is also a very small stream in the yard which holds a few small native Yellowstone Cutthroat Trout. Very private yard.

Marcia's home in Silver Gate was absolutely the best. The photos do not do it justice. It is quite spacious with plenty of room to relax and enjoy the beautiful views out every window. Her home has everything anyone could need with a kitchen stocked better than my own. New sofa and chairs that are perfect for relaxing and reading. The beds are super comfortable (new mattresses I believe Marcia said). The bathroom is spacious with great counter space - hard to find that! Hot water seemed endless. Water pressure great. Refrigerator is new and huge (good for holding my 30 days of meals). Wifi never faltered. Sitting out back under the mountains is so peaceful. Easy in and out. I loved the individual bedroom/bathroom heaters that work quickly and efficiently, and I could set them how I wanted the rooms warmed. I could walk to anywhere in Silver Gate. And Marcia is the ultimate hostess! She is so knowledgeable about everything in the area. Ask her anything. I recommend this home as highly as I possibly can.
Marcia is the best host! The property was wonderful, as represented. Very comfortable. Clean. Beautiful setting. We look forward to returning.
This home in Silver Gate was a perfect base for our family to explore Yellowstone from the Northeast entrance. Marcia is a very gracious host & met us at check in to go over the home & how everything worked. She made great recommendations on things to do both inside & outside the park. It was an amazing trip that our family will not forget. We loved it!!
After talking about taking my kids to Yellowstone for many many years I don't think I could've found a better place to stay. The home itself has an amazing feel to it and outback you get an amazing view with the sounds of a crystal clear creek runs through the yard.Marcia herself is an absolute treat. She was extremely kind and helpful and even gave the kids going away geodes because she's just that sweet. Great home and a great person behind it
We loved our stay in the cabin! There are 6 of us in the family and there was plenty of space to enjoy ourselves when we were not out exploring Yellowstone. Marcia was a wonderful host and had lots of great tips and recommendations for us and even lots of communication prior to arriving too. Our trip to Yellowstone was supposed to happen last year, but because of the flooding, we rebooked with Marcia for this year and so glad we did. It was fun exploring both Silver gate and Cooke City when were weren't in YNP. We loved that the entrance was so close and driving through the Lamar Valley to see all the wildlife was fantastic! Highly recommend staying here, you won't be disappointed.
I cannot say enough about this rental. Marcia was great to deal with; communication was responsive and informative. The house itself is perfect for those visiting Yellowstone Nat.'al park, esp.if you want to be close to the wildlife rich Lamar Valley. Marcia was always helpful as to things to do, places to eat, and always notified us of local wildlife sightings. If you get a chance and want a nice place to stay.....rent this house!
The real thing, a true Western experience nothing phony here!! Great!!
What an unbelievable week we had on our first visit to Yellowstone! It was the forty something parents and 2 teenagers! Marcia’s home is a true gem, and if there is the perfect place to stay near the park, this is it!!! Quiet, quaint, and friendly is how I would describe Silver Gate and neighboring Cooke City. For the teens, there is Wi-Fi for night. But the great thing is, when exploring, there no cell service or internet, so we get to unplug! We saw wolves, moose, grizzlies, goats, big horn sheep, and everything in between. The wonderful thing is, most things were seen within a 10 minute drive from the house in Pebble Creek and Soda Butte on the way to Lamar Valley. I cannot say enough wonderful things about the location of this home. It is away from the hustle and bustle and crowds that we saw in other areas of Yellowstone. One thing I would recommend….plan to cook food in your cabin and have picnics during the day. There are several places to eat, but Miners Saloon was the only one that was delicious. Marcia’s kitchen is amazing and has everything you would need to cook inside or outside while having a nice view of the mountains. The locals in this area are very friendly and helpful as well. I can’t wait to go back later in the year so Marcia can show us how to catch some cutthroat! Thank you for sharing your family’s home with us. I know it is very special to you as you have been visiting for over 20 years in the summer. We appreciate you sharing this place with us!
What a great home to stay in for visiting Yellowstone. And Marcia (the owner) is so awesome to work with. She even assisted us in setting up our plan for the week. She made us feel like family. She knows the area for 3 decades. A subject matter expert on this region ! Her caretaker of the property (Guy) is great too! Asked us if we needed anything every time we saw him. The home has everything you need. Very comfortable bed, great shower, and great kitchen too. Has a 2nd bedroom if needed. And a 2nd bathroom. Washer and dryer are like new. We found that the furniture being a bit dated was perfect for a cabin like feel. All very comfortable and everything you need. We felt like we were camping in the woods, but with having all the comforts of home. Even better is that the home is only a mile from the northeast entrance of Yellowstone National Park (2 minutes). And it is only 15-20 minutes from the most amazing part of the whole park, Lamar Valley. The northeast section of Yellowstone is only 10% of the park, but 50% of the wildlife are there, we had read in a book preparing for our trip. What we saw was living proof of that fact. Dozens of herds of bison, numerous elk, several bears (black bears and grizzlies), foxes, pronghorns, and we even saw a few wolves. Everyday something different….no two days the same. It was remarkable trip, and the best vacation to date. Our 3rd time to Yellowstone, but previous two times were from Southern entrance. This northeast section is much better, we felt. The restaurant and stores in Silver Gate were awesome! The store with ice cream next to the home is the best ice cream ever. Get the Moose Track ! The small cup is larger than any large cup in Cincinnati. We also enjoyed all the restaurants 3 miles away in Cooke City, and the General Store in Cooke City is a Historic Site from the 1800s. Amazing! We flew into Billings Montano and drove the 68 mile Beartooth Highway (Hwy 212) to get to Silver Gate. Most amazing 68 miles you will ever drive. It is one of the grand parts of the vacation. We will be back ! Highly recommended! Our best vacation to date. We can’t wait to come back.
It was great
