Manistee, Michigan
Welcome to our GLASS house (designed and built by a notable Chicago architect in the late 1960's). The 2 storied house is made of cedar with two sides of the place all glass to welcome the sun or to view a perfect sunset on a medium bluff directly on and high above Lake Michigan.
guests may use nearby Magoon Creek Beach and Sundling Park Beach, only minutes away. In town, about ten minutes by car, guests may go to First Street Beach and 5th avenue beach, where there are very big, sandy beaches, as well as ice cream, snacks, showers and bathrooms. Golf and kids parks are very near as well.
Two interior decks overlooking the living room. Four exterior decks, including one guest bedroom deck overlooking the lake, while the second bedroom deck overlooks the woods in front. Nice kitchen fridge/dishwasher, stove/oven/vent/disposal plus enough gear to be a gourmet for the evening or breakfast and lunch, which you can enjoy on your enormous deck out back on the lakeside, and hear the wind and the waves.
Sleeps 6 in 3 bedrooms and 2 full baths (one just for the master bedroom), and all amenities, including washer/dryer and dishwasher.
A cool, mid-century modern fireplace inside and plenty of firewood, with forests everywhere.

Manistee is a wonderful, unexplored part of Michigan...
Beautiful property on Lake Michigan, thorough and responsive hosts. Cool mid century modern vibe with some classic rock flare in a cabin.
We had a great time at this property. It's very retro chic with all original mid-century furnishings and unique architecture. It was clean and very comfortable. We ended up going to Manistee more than we thought (the beach, playgrounds, ship tour, restaurants), so it was really convenient that it's fairly close. The cliff down to the water allowed for really beautiful, dramatic views, though it would be a bit stressful with kids 2-4yrs old that can't really be trusted to stay away. I would definitely recommend staying here for something fun and different!
My family had a wonderful time staying in the Glass House. Located on a bluff that overlooks Lake Michigan. This place is just a short drive away from multiple beaches, playgrounds, and nature trails. The house is kept very clean, and the owners even provided us with fire wood. Our evening were spent around the campfire, listening to the waves of the lake and looking up at the stars. The neighbors are quiet and polite. The owners are easy to work with and they checked in to make sure all of our needs were met. I would definitely rent this place again in the future.
Thoroughly enjoyed our visit to this home and the Manistee area! The downtown riverwalk and Main Street was picturesque and offered nice shopping, dining/drinking opportunities. The bridge through Manistee shut down to traffic which made travel a bit slower (will be happening until Sept) through a detour, but it was vacation, so why hurry? Beautiful views of Lake Michigan from the backyard of the home made this a real treat, and we loved making a fire indoors during the chillier nights! The kitchen was a bit small, but well stocked and the owners very responsive to any requests we had. Anyone with trouble negotiating stairs might have difficulty here, but otherwise would totally recommend this property!
A group of six adults and two young children all stayed here over the Fourth of July and we had a wonderful time! A great location with a BEAUTIFUL view even though you cannot access the water/a beach from the house. We spent a lot of time at First Street Beach and exploring the area. It was a prefect location for getting places in a quick drive. The home was well stocked with kitchen utensils and even toys/beach stuff for the kids. Would definitely recommend!
The Glass House blends perfectly into its lakeside wooded setting. The view to the lake is sublime: sitting in the garden was a pure pleasure and we felt totally revitalised by our stay here. The house is a wonderful mix of retro style and relaxed fun: fire pit, bikes (even a tandem) and BBQ all provided. You can not fail to feel energised to go off and explore the local area from here. We loved every minute of our stay and only wished we had more time to enjoy what the house and this wonderful piece of Michigan has to offer. The town was one of the friendliest we have visited: the food and service were excellent. We will definitely stay here again.
Highly recommend. Owners are great. Location is about 10-12 mins from Manistee with nice restaurants and beaches. We would enjoy staying here again.
This was the most well equipped and furnished lakefront house we ever stayed in. Very comfortable. The hosts have provided everything you need for a very enjoyable stay so you don't have to pack much besides your clothes. Our only disappointment was not having an accessible beach on the property, but we were told up front. There is a lovely beach nearby in Magoon Creek nature preserve and a couple of public beaches in town that have great amenities. The sunsets at the glass house are all beautiful and the lake views are awe inspiring. Hosts couldn't be better.
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Well equipped and comfortable.
The house is very cute with lots of original decor. Alena left us a gift of gourmet fudge on the kitchen table which was very tasty. The view of Lake Michigan is just wonderful. The beds were comfortable enough. The kitchen is well equipped. I found the spices, oils, and utensils etc we needed to cook the few meals we ate at the house. On the television we found games, movies, and channels to watch for a relaxing evening after being out all day at the beach. There was next to zero cellular coverage for our cell phone carrier (we have T-Mobile) so we had to use the wifi for our service which made my phone work perfectly, so no worries. Two bathrooms were manageable for 6 adults. The washer and dryer in the basement worked well. In the basement are bikes and beach chairs , and lawn games. The back deck is fantastic to watch the sunset each evening, it is really beautiful. We had a nice fire one evening and found loads of firewood. Surprisingly the bugs aren't too bad especially by the lake. The property is close to Magoon Creek , which has Lake Michigan beach access, we went there 2 times. You are about a 7-10 minute drive into Manistee and the 2 beaches there. We went to 5th street beach once, and walked out to the lighthouse. The downtown area of Manistee is super cute with lots of curated shops, several restaurants and coffee shops, there is a nice board walk on the inlet and a cute brewery close to the bridge there as well. We drove to Traverse City one day which is about 1 hour and 30 minutes from the house, and Sleeping bear Dunes another day which is about an hour and 15 minute. We also went into Ludington to the big lighthouse and walked the beach, then shopped the downtown there as well, which is about 30 minutes from the house. The the area is just wonderful very quiet and relaxing.
The accommodations were lovely, and we enjoyed the retro style and amazing Lake Michigan sunsets!
