Sargent, Texas
Wahoo: This quaint home is situated on Sargent Island, 1.3 miles after crossing the island bridge and turning left. Our long fishing "boardwalk", along the ICW at the rear of the house, is equipped with fishing lights, 2 crab traps, and a large fish cleaning table with water. You can also enjoy views of the Gulf of Mexico in front of our home!
Recent storms have flattened the dunes and partially eroded the beach. At low tide, it is possible to get on the beach. However, the revetment wall, a permanent granite structure built to protect the shoreline and the ICW, insures beach strolling year-round. There are active plans to restore the beach by the summer of 2023 (Sargent Breakwater and Beach Nourishment project). NOTICE: WE DO HAVE RATTLESNAKES ON THE ISLAND. STAY OUT OF THE DUNES AND HIGH GRASS. BE ESPECIALLY CAREFUL WITH CHILDREN!
Fill your days relaxing, fishing, bird-watching (the property is near the San Bernard National Wildlife Refuge), or beach-combing along our uncrowded coastline. Occasionally, bottle-nose dolphins are sighted! From our dining table, you can view both barges navigating the canal and shrimp boats working the coastline. NOTICE: WE DO HAVE RATTLESNAKES ON THE ISLAND. STAY OUT OF THE DUNES AND HIGH GRASS. BE ESPECIALLY CAREFUL WITH CHILDREN!
When you've had enough fun in the sun, enjoy some great family "down time" playing cards or viewing a movie from our DVD collection. We also have a large shaded area under the second level where you can read a book in the cool breeze, have a picnic, set up a blender on the Texas bar, and let the kids run and play in our big backyard. End your day watching a beautiful Sargent sunset.
Upstairs are two bedrooms with central heat and air. The master has a king-size Sleep Number bed and a small tv. The second bedroom has a full bed. The full bath has a shower/tub combo and a clothes washer. In the living room are several recliners, a full-size couch, and a tv for your comfort and enjoyment.
Downstairs are a window ac unit and a space heater for winter. There is a full-size bed, full bath with extra-large shower, small tv, a small couch to provide some seating, and a clothes dryer.
We supply kitchen utensils, blender, toaster, and a 12-cup drip coffee pot. Linens and bath towels are also provided, but PLEASE BRING YOUR OWN BEACH TOWELS.
Sargent has several public boat launches which allow boaters easy access to fishing in Matagorda Bay or Caney Creek. One is located on the island, beside the county park, and accessed by crossing the high bridge and turning right.
We would love to have you vacation with us!!
PLEASE NOTE: In order to keep our home as clean as possible, we do not allow smoking inside or pets on the property. NO GLASS CONTAINERS ALLOWED due to issues with small children and cut feet. We ask that you shake the sand out of towels and clothes before washing. While cell service is available, we do not have WIFI or cable TV. However, we do have local TV and DVDs both upstairs and down. Due to septic tank concerns, please DO NOT FLUSH TAMPONS OR WIPES down the toilet.

Place was great, the weekend I went bad weather decided to come in with strong winds and rain so the fishing wasn’t very good and the over all stay wasn’t the best due to weather. However, the facility over all was good clean and perfect if the weather cooperated.
We stayed 11/3-11/6 and had a very pleasant time! The house is nice and very clean. We would stay here again!
Enjoyed our stay will recommend it to orhers
This home has everything you need to have a great stay. Location is perfect, fishing was good and the house is spacious. We’ll definitely be back
We loved this location! Right on the water with the beach within walking distance. Hear the waves crashing from the front deck. Great hangout area down below with bathroom downstairs. We loved it!
Great stay. Loved the property and plan to contact the owners to reserve again next year.
Beautiful veiws, Loved the house.lots of memories never to forget, thank you for the house.
Great location and views
This was our groups second time to stay at wahoo. Fantastic property, great fishing, and had everything we could possibly need.
Good
Always enjoy Sargent and how quiet it is. Nice property.
This is the perfect place to relax and enjoy the views!
We had a great time. We tried to fish in the intercoastal water way, I believe it took more lures then we caught fish. Haha but we had a great time. We had fun in the sun before the craziness before school starts.
I was looking for a place that would be good for ages 7 to over 50 years old. This place was perfect! The view of the beach was so relaxing and everyone enjoyed fishing and watching the barges go by in the canal. The house was very nice and a lot bigger than I expected. The Texas bar was so fun and the breeze way was a cool spot to hang out. Thank you so much to the owners for sharing your special place! I’d love to go back again sometime. Thanks!
This home was exactly as shown and so much more. So clean and welcoming. Only hard decision was which deck to sit on for my morning coffee. Beach was not crowded at all and we had a blast. Thank you Phil and Mary Grace for allowing us to share your piece of Heaven.
This was a nice place to stay for hanging out on a non-crowded beach while also being able to fish the ICW from the rear of the property. No ice maker in the freezer, but can easily get ice a few miles down the road and store in the freezer. The ground floor room with bathroom has a separate entrance. It had a nice view of the water, and watching the barges go by so close was neat to see. The owners were always quick to respond and answered a lot of questions I had.
Fulfilled our needs. Owners were polite and honest. We would stay with them in the future if the need arises.
