Black Mountain, located 15 miles from Asheville on the eastern edge of Buncombe County, is a quintessential small town, complete with a charming and walkable downtown, a thriving arts and crafts scene, and at 2,405 feet in elevation, access to incredible outdoor adventure.
Named for a mountain range that towers over the town, Black Mountain became a haven for pioneers in the world of art, painting, music, poetry, and architectural design during the mid-twentieth century. The town was once home to Black Mountain College, one of the most highly-respected and innovative experimental art colleges in the U.S. Today it remains an artist mecca with multiple galleries showcasing some of the region’s best southern Appalachian arts and crafts.

We rented the main floor and two higher rooms as well. It was the perfect balance of privacy for each couple and common area for being together. Everything was clean and freshly decorated. The kitchen was well stocked and the full-sized refrigerator was great for our crowd of 8 adults. We had plenty of parking space for all 4 vehicles. Each bedroom and bath were comfortable spaces. It was nice to have two sitting areas on the main floor (one for tv and one without), we enjoyed using the dining table for cards and eating. The two upstairs rooms also had small sitting/kitchenette areas that are perfect for two people. The owner communicated well and offered advice for dining and entertainment. The outdoor areas are simple walk out onto and are enclosed for privacy but the traffic on the main road was a little noisy. We took quiet walks in the neighborhood and walked 5 minutes to the downtown area for shopping and dining. Our dinner at the restaurant across the street was wonderful. We all loved our stay and look forward to coming back again!
We had a wonderful family Thanksgiving! 4 families from across the country get together every Thanksgiving, Black Mountain was the chosen spot. We were lucky and blessed to find this gem of a property! Great hosts, great set up, beautiful high quality home. We also rented the lower apartment and it was super! Walked to town, walked to the park, enjoyed coffee on our deck with the mountains, close to Asheville. It was a super week and couldn’t have asked for a better property! We stay in a VRBO every year with 12 ppl, this was one of the best over the last 10 years. Don’t miss it.
