Fort Davis, Texas
Welcome to our home in Fort Davis, a quaint high-desert West Texas town nestled in the Davis Mountains. Our home is spacious, open, and airy with 4 bedrooms and 2 baths, with plenty of room to spare- easily accommodating up to 8 people. Make memories in the fully-stocked kitchen (a complementary bootle of wine cooling for you when you arrive!), or feel free to hike down to the nearby country store, Stone Village, for an amazing sandwich, homemake soup, or salad! Enjoy some of the most scenic drives in the Southwest, star-gaze at the famous McDonald Observatory, explore the mysterious Marfa lights, or meander through the Chihuahuan Desert. Come relax, take your shoes off, stay awhile! ...the front porch to the Big Bend!
This was our fifth stay in this property and Iām about to book it again.
1. All but about two chairs in the house needs to be replaced. 2. Food left in the refrigerator. and cabinets. 3. Had to leave the trash exposed; both trash cans in the back yard were full. 4. Asked about a BBQ Grill; was told there is none, but there is a new one in the back yard. 5. Asked about a burn pit and was told there was none due to all the burn bans. There was a burn ban, but there was also a burn pit in the back yard. 6. No indication that there were dishes, pots, pans, etc, except for the picture on the web page, but there were lots of them (so we brought ours in vain). 7. Closet in the Master Bedroom was locked (and we needed it). 8. Light in the Master did not work. 9. Host phone number was not provided. 10. Step bannisters in front, full of splinters. 11. Probably nothing can be done, but the floors in the Master Bedroom and bathroom squeak and squawk to high heaven. 12. Back yard was unusable due to weeds and un-mowed grass.
Close to Balmorrhea and Davis Mountain Hikingf... quiet...nice
As the previous reviews show, this property won't suit everyone. We expected to have 9 at the house, but in the midst of the airline meltdown of 2022, my son and his family sadly did not make it. It probably would have been crowded, especially since the advertised futon was actually not present (along with the welcoming bottle of wine and the coffee). But the house was comfortable enough for the 5 of us and for the other family members who visited the first evening we were there. The random opened and partially used food in the frig and elsewhere was disconcerting, though having a few spices was helpful. What was very amusing was that everywhere we looked there was something broken: yard lamps in front, weather stripping hanging under the door, a lamp missing a leg, a ceiling light that didn't turn on, broken cup handle, gas range that worked but didn't have a low setting, coffee maker with broken lid hinges, two closets with lots of broken chairs and at least one more broken lamp. But there were plenty of dishes, silverware, glasses, mugs, and Terri was always responsive and helpful, so it was a good stay on the whole.
We were very happy to find this property, as we had a larger group and there are not many options in Fort Davis. Beautiful house on edge of town and perfect for some star gazing as well.
Had a great stay with family and friends, the house was a great spot for our group, hope to come back in the spring time and will be booking here again if we get the chance
Your photos of your home certainly did not match what we saw. When we contacted you, you said that you would take care of the torn sheets, but nothing changed. Threadbare and torn sheets, questionable blanket/comforters, mattresses were extremely uncomfortable in the master, which is where my guests stayed. How embarrassing for me to see their discomfort. The other beds were just as uncomfortable. I used my own pillow and comforter because I didnāt even want to look at what was under that comforter in the back bedroom. Despite hard water, your secondary bathroom was filthy. Both toilets were dirty, blue stuff doesnāt clean toilets. The shower had hair surrounding the drain and on the floor of the shower. Refrigerator with condiments was deplorable. The only positive was the stunning sun rise that we saw.
This property served as a wonderful weekend place for my group to gather.
We were in the area to photograph the Milky Way and house was perfect for hitting all the various sites. It was very clean and comfortable and gave us easy access to all the area towns. We'll definitely be booking again.
Terri, the property owner was helpful. The house was exactly as described. The cabinets were filled with treasures. Have already booked the home again for October 2022.
