Our family had a wonderful time at The Big Chill, A lovely large home, well-maintained,beautifully decorated with a beautiful large garden area that sloped down to a dock and lovely waterway for fishing and kayaking. Our grandchildren had a ball kayaking and fishing and actually catching fish and crab. Photos didn't do it justice. Only problem for us was whether to stay at the house enjoying the our time together in such a peaceful and relaxing setting or to get out and do the sightseeing we had planned on. Not enough time but grateful for a great vacation at The Big Chill.
We recently had the pleasure of staying for almost a week at the Big Chill house. This house is amazing. It's even better than the pictures. We had two families with a total of 4 children ages 3 and under and we had the best time! The house was perfectly laid out for us and provided everything we needed for the kids. The covered wrap around porch, backyard, dock and jacuzzi were perfect for the kids and provided a lot of afternoon enjoyment. The beaches are great and such an easy drive away. As other reviews note, the owners do live on the property but in no way did this prevent us from having a wonderful and private stay. If anything it helped in the event we needed something or had any questions. We are planning to return next year for an entire week if not more! You will be very pleased with your choice to stay at Big Chill!
lovely home, Shar was most accomodating and helpful. Water location was all it was said to be. Good access to Charleston and surrounding areas and beaches. I would not heitate to stay there again. Thanks from Oklahoma
The home is impeccably kept with a rocker-filled porch and a pier to entertain all ages. We had a gourmet kitchen with pots large enough for a shrimp boil. The owner even picked up shrimp from the docks for us. Seven of us were in the home for 5 days and had various activities with family. We had no problems and the restaurant recommendations helped. We had all ages visit from 4 smaller children to 3 over 85 and everybody inbetween. The crab traps stayed full, the kayaks available, and the air conditioning superb. For perfections, stay at the Big Chill!
A group of ten of us gathered for a weekend away to celebrate our dear friend's recent marriage. From start to finish, George and Laurie were hospitable and very helpful in ensuring that our weekend was fantastic. The photographs of the property do not do it justice! The landscape is breathtaking and the amenities are pristine. I highly recommend this property for a gathering spot for family or friends. I know that we will consider the Big Chill in the event of another Charleston getaway!
What a wonderful choice of an accommodation for our 2013 family vacation! It was everything and more than advertised. The Big Chill House will be included in our travel memories along with the landmarks and wonderful restaurants of Charleston and Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina. It truly became our home away from home. Everything that would make a guest comfortable was made available to us. From super comfortable mattresses and linen to every tool needed to cook a meal in-house was accessible to us. We loved to spend our mornings or resting after a day of sightseeing on the wonderful porch just taking in the view. Thanks for having videos and Charleston magazines located around the house to give help us create each dayโs itinerary. The location was wonderful! Although we were in the midst of a neighborhood, it still had a secluded/retreat feel and we were conveniently located near restaurants, groceries and the iconic Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge linking us to Charleston. Traveling with a group of photographers, we did not have to go far for a great picture opportunity. It was as close as the dock in the backyard. Thanks again for making our summer vacation a memorable one.
My family and I (8 total) spent a wonderful week as the guests of Laurie and George. From the moment we arrived, we knew that this was going to be a wonderful stay. George and Laurie were fantastic hosts - providing a very thorough walk through, tips on what to see and were just all around perfect. Privacy was not an issue and the home is absolutely beautiful!! The grounds, furnishings and location made it the perfect place to relax with family but access to the city was the crowning glory. Location and decor were my favorite aspects while having to leave was what I liked least! Thank you both for a wonderful stay!
We stayed here for a week for the Spoleto Festival with 6 family members of 3 different generations, and 2 dogs. It was close enough to town to be convenient for Spoleto events, and yet in a woodsy secluded neighborhood, on the water, with kayaks much enjoyed by the younger members. (Every person in our party with a camera took pictures of the lovely large back yard.) The house and grounds are well maintained; the decor upscale and eclectic, with art work everywhere. The kitchen has granite counter tops, a Subzero refrigerator, and is well-equipped with the basics necessary for cooking. There are both a Trader Joe's and Whole Foods nearby There is a large dining room table good for convivial meals and playing games, as we always do. The bedrooms are spacious, with good mattresses and nice linens (except for the very soft pillows, which I don't like, although I think most people do.) The bathrooms are comparable to those in a luxury hotel. One nice thing about this house is that, because of its size and layout, people can gather together, or visit in smaller groups, or be by themselves if they choose; we were not on top of each other all the time.
The personality and the charm of the house was more than we expected. The pictures don't do justice to the beauty of the house which we experienced . We were there for a destination wedding in Charleston and had two small yorkies which traved with us . The house was layed out very well ,and like other ,reviews we found the kitchen as a natural focal point of gatherings ,which also gave us a goergious view of the peaceful water inlet behind the house. The entire house was decored with a lovely aray of unique features that gave the home a one of a kind appeal. The surrounding porch and property had its own relaxed appeal due to the lush and fragrant plants that adorn the proprerty which were most noticable during our early morning cups of coffee which we enjoyed daily. Other reviews have expressed the odd feeling of having the owner living on the premise , but we on the other hand viewed this as andvantage due to the fact that if there had of been something that needed to be addressed (which there were none ) George would have taken care of immediately. We saw George as a wealth of information about the Charlestion area for we always learned and enjoyed conversations with him. I would recomend this properity to any one who wants a nice relaxing get away and not just a hotel experience. We would recommend walking accross the Aurther Ravenel Jr. bridge and the water front momerial park. Sincerely Steve & Tammy
Everything was accurate about the location, layout, ammenities and expectation of the home. However; as a group of 4 families none of us or via word of mouth would we recommend others to stay there. We felt hassled and watched during the entire stay by the husband, owner. Several statements were made about # of people that were staying, after the initial check-in the # of people were divulged and agreed upon with the other owner. 3 other comments were made to 2 persons in the group about How many are staying there now? Also, the teenager in our group used the hot tub, covered it back and cleaned up but left the temp on high. The owner came over and wanted to talk to who used his hot tub? Said it could have burned his motor which all of us knew there are kickoff switches to avoid that from happening. As a result he told the 2 individuals he spoke with he would put chemicals in his hot tub tonight and no one would use it. Comments were made about the couch and various other items during check-in that made the whole group feel scared to even sit down. House is lovely, location is great....would not recommend, unfortunately.
