Other things to note
PETS:
While we allow up to 2 dogs during your visit, we have some restrictions before approval, so please reach out to us ahead of booking to share details about your pups. Unfortunately, we do not allow any other types of animals in our homes.
MAINTENANCE:
Landscape maintenance will likely take place during your stay, which includes watering the flowers & plants, weeding the flower beds, trimming plants & flowers, etc. Your privacy is of utmost priority and any maintenance visits will be scheduled in advance (i.e. we’ll try to coordinate landscape maintenance by us or contractors during times you are away from the home exploring the island) to minimize any intrusion to your peaceful retreat.
GARBAGE & RECYCLING:
This property has a Garbage and Recycling dumpster behind a closed gate at the parking area. There will be periodic visits by contractors to consolidate trash and recycling at this location from our other properties (i.e. trash and recycling collected from smaller cans at our other locations and brought here for pick-up by San Juan Sanitation). Garbage and recycling pickup at this location is every other week on Tuesday mornings. We’ll provide details for any guests staying during a pickup week with details for the trucks to access on the scheduled morning pickup.
GRASS DORMANCY DURING SUMMER:
Orcas Island Getaway @ West Sound is nestled on nearly 2 acres of land, and much of the property is comprised of a grass lawn. We want to share with you our commitment to water conservation and sustainability, especially during the summer months, and the reason for these efforts.
Our home is part of a Community Water system with dozens of homes relying on the water being served by the community well. With water being a shared resource with many neighbors, we have adopted responsible water usage practices with this shared resource and we do not water our grass lawn.
As a result, during the summer months, the grass lawn will become dormant (turns from green to brown) due to lack of rain. Pictures of the exterior/landscape in our listing descriptions are taken during the summer months in order to most accurately represent to prospective guests what to expect with the lawn during their time, this property is only available as a vacation rental during the summer months when there is little rain.
Our focus is on nurturing our vibrant flowers and plants around the property which requires much less water than over an acre of grass lawn would need. This approach allows us to balance the beauty of the landscape while also minimizing water usage from the water system and our community of neighbors. We also use water catchment barrels from the roof gutter to use for watering plants/shrubs/flowers when we do have periodic rain during the summer.
Rest assured, you will be surrounded by the natural beauty of trees, plants, shrubs, and vibrant blooms, creating a picturesque and tranquil setting for your vacation, but the grass will likely not be the vibrant green it is during the wetter months of the year (this image is the landscape during the springtime).
Thank you for joining us in our commitment to sustainability and understanding of these efforts.
